Gute Fahrt!
Passagiere an Bord.
Bon Voyage! Whoever it was that thought up the
name, the season, the venue can be very proud
indeed. Because it is certainly a huge success story.
“Young Euro Classic” looks to the future, and
connects the future with the past. In the cultural
calendar, August has become a month of great
expectations. And the Konzerthaus auditorium
in Berlin’s stunning Gendarmenmarkt square is a
thrilling and lively location. It is a perfect threepart
harmony that resonates around the music
world. The festival has so far been staged twelve
times, and – unlike the Euro – there is no sign of
crisis, no need for a bailout! This annual gathering
of international youth orchestras is, of course,
dependent on financial backing. But the funding required
has been kept at a reasonable level and the
festival’s sponsors can be justly proud of all they
have achieved with their contributions. The city of
Berlin’s Capital Cultural Fund, which recognises
the outstanding significance of the festival for our
city, has been supporting Young Euro Classic for
eleven years. Now, for the coming three years, the
Berlin Lottery Foundation is also joining the crew as
another important co-financier. We are delighted to
remain on board, maintaining our place among the
expectant passengers, and hope that Young Euro
Classic will continue to steer a steady course.
