The removal of obstacles to clean energy is urgently needed.
Stability: Robust policies and favourable, transparent and stable regulatory frameworks are required to
attract private investors and to guarantee affordable energy services to consumers.
Finance: New forms of financing, risk mitigation and guarantee models will be necessary to make
small sized renewable and energy efficiency projects bankable and economically attractive.
If these market parameters can be established, then project developers, project financiers and
technology companies can drive the shift to sustainable, clean energy.
REEEP does not have a “one size fits all” approach towards targets and the partnership expects the
balance of impacts to vary from country to country, whether they be improved energy security, povery
reduction, climate change mitigation or the creation of employment and exports.
Policy
REEEP is working to ensure that regulatory structures encourage the integration of clean energy,
promote the efficient use of power, and attract investment to the renewable sector.
REEEP has established the Sustainable Energy Regulation Network (SERN) to promote forms of
regulation that integrate energy efficiency, combined heat and power, and renewable sources into
energy supply systems.
The Renewable Energy International Law (REIL) project seeks to ensure that new and existing
international treaties take into account the emerging need for diversification into renewable energy,
and do not unintentionally create barriers.
REEEP helps deliver policy and financing structures that reduce risk and encourage increased
participation in all sectors of the market for renewable and efficient energy.
REEEP has annual project funding rounds. Projects are selected on the basis of potential for
replication and scalability, impact on the development of the market for renewable and efficient
energy, and innovation.
REEEP is supported by funding from the governments of Austria, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands,
Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States, and the European Commission.
More than 80 countries, businesses and NGOs are signatories to REEEP's mission statement.
Based in Vienna with regional secretariats in Central Europe, East Asia, Latin America, North America,
and Southern Africa, the REEEP partnership seeks worldwide synergies and collaborates closely with
other sustainable energy partnerships.
