April 1819. François Constantin beginnt mit der internationalen Ausweitung
der Handelstätigkeiten von Vacheron Constantin. Während einer Italienreise
hält der Visionär in einem Brief an die Manufaktur jene Worte fest,

Freche Früchtchen erwarten Sie diesen Sommer in der Drings Bar im
The Ring, Vienna’s Casual Luxury Hotel. Das Team rund um Bar-Chef
Markus Brunner hat den Winter genutzt um Rezeptideen für köstliche,
neue Sommercocktails zu entwickeln. Jeder Monat ist einer eigenen
Frucht gewidmet, die dann Basis für rund sieben neue Cocktails ist.
Den Anfang im Mai – passend zum frischen, grünen Frühling – macht
die Limette. Cocktails wie der „Basil Honey Daiquiri“ (Honig, Rum,
frisches Basilikum und frischer Limettensaft) oder „Bajan Passion“
(frische Passionsfrucht, Rum, Aprikosen Brandy, frischer Limettensaft
und hausgemachter Vanille Sirup) versüßen im Limetten-Monat den
Start in den Sommer.
Nicht nur im Sommer, sondern das ganze Jahr über bietet die Drings
Bar eine andere Besonderheit: Eine der größten Wodka-Selektionen
der Stadt. Marken wie ‘DIVA’, der erste Wodka der über Diamantenstaub
gefiltert wird, ‘Absolut Level’ aus Schweden, ‘Xellent’ aus der Schweiz,
‘Puriste’ aus Österreich oder ‘Roberto Cavalli Luxury’ stehen zur

Fruity beauties are awaiting you this summer in the Drings bar at the
Ring, Vienna’s Casual Luxury Hotel. Chief bartender Markus Brunner
and his team have made use of the winter months and created
exciting new recipes for delicious summer cocktails. This summer,
each month is being dedicated to a different fruit as the basis for
seven new cocktails. Matching the fresh, green spring time, limes will
break the first ground in May. Cocktails like the ‘Basil Honey Daiquiri’
(honey, rum, fresh basil, and fresh lime juice) or ‘Bajan Passion’ (fresh
passion fruit, rum, apricot brandy, fresh lime juice, and homemade
vanilla syrup) will sweeten the lime-month and the start into summer.
Another unique feature of the Drings bar is one of the most extensive
vodka selections in town. Choose from exceptional brands like ‘DIVA’,
the first vodka that is filtered with bort, ‘Absolut Level’ from Sweden,
‘Xellent’ from Switzerland, ‘Puriste’ from Austria or the ‘Roberto Cavalli
Luxury’, the first vodka produced in Italy by the famous designer
Roberto Cavalli. The bar currently offers a selection of about 40
different vodka brands – and still counting.
If you would like to be kept up to date about coming vodka brands,
get exclusive invitations to special events or try your luck at raffles,

meeting regularly not only online but also directly at the bar for
special Facebook Nights. A popular place for a get-together is also

Sommer auf dem Teller
„In den Wochen von Ende März bis Mitte Oktober kann man als Koch im
wahrsten Sinne des Wortes aus dem Vollen schöpfen“, schwärmt Daniel
Kraft von der warmen Jahreszeit. „Alles wächst und gedeiht und diese Üppigkeit
der Natur sollen unsere Gäste auch auf ihren Tellern wieder finden.“
Teller, die im Restaurant at eight im The Ring, Vienna’s Casual Luxury
Hotel, serviert werden. Dort kochen Chefkoch Daniel Kraft und sein Team
nach dem Konzept der Aromaküche. „Aromaküche heißt für mich, den Geschmack
eines Produkts intensiv hervorzuheben. Das kann auf verschiedene
Arten geschehen, auch durch die Verwendung von ätherischen Ölen.“
Ätherische Öle in der Küche
Hochwertige, zu 100% naturreine ätherische Öle erweitern das Gewürzspektrum
einer Küche auf spannende Weise, wichtig ist jedoch die richtige
Anwendung. „Man darf wirklich nur winzige Mengen, etwa einen
einzigen Tropfen, verwenden. Schon kleine Mengen können eine wahre
Geschmacksexplosion erzeugen. Wenn man passende ätherische Öle für
die richtigen Gerichte einsetzt, sind sie sicherlich eine spannende Ergänzung.
Ein kompletter Ersatz für frische Kräuter sind sie aber nicht“, erklärt
Daniel Kraft.
Daher ist ihm, gerade jetzt im Sommer, neben der Verwendung von
regionalen Produkten auch der Einsatz von frischen Kräutern ein wichtiges
Anliegen. „Kräuter sind in meiner Küche ein wichtiges Thema, das sich
fast durch alle Gänge zieht. Sogar bei den Desserts kann man sie höchst
spannend einsetzen – unser Thymianeis etwa war ein echter Renner.“
Alle drei Wochen ändert der zweifach haubengekrönte Chefkoch die Karte
des at eight. Beispiele für Gerichte, die darauf schon zu finden waren, finden
Sie hier: „Gänseleber, Mandelbrioche, Grüner Apfel, Buttermilch“; „Anglerbackerl,
Geräucherter Paprika, Schwarzes Risotto, Ricotta“; „Kaninchen,
Hummertramezzini, Topinambur, violetter Senf“; „Geeistes Krokant, Mango,
Krokantkuchen“.
Ein Restaurant macht sich schick für den Abend
Nicht nur das Küchenkonzept des at eight ist etwas besonders, auch punkto
Interieur erwartet Sie hier Abwechslung. Denn das at eight zieht sich jeden
Nachmittag um. Ja, Sie haben richtig gelesen, so wie sich der Mensch gerne
hübsch macht für den Abend, stylt sich auch das Restaurant für seine Gäste
und für die Nacht.
Das Umziehen geht zwar relativ rasch vor sich – hat aber einen dramatischen
Effekt. Nachmittags um drei Uhr werden die Rollos heruntergelassen,
damit sich das Restaurant ausgehfein machen kann. Spiegel kommen zum
Vorschein, Lampen werden verziert, Kerzen tauchen auf und werden entzündet
und Vorhänge sorgen für eine romantische Stimmung und ein Ambiente,
das perfekt mit dem Night-Feeling harmoniert. Es ändert sich zudem
die gesamte Farbwelt: Das frische und zum Frühstücks- und Tagesgeschäft
passende Lindgrün macht am Abend den viel dramatischeren Farben Rot
und Violett Platz.
Vor dem Restaurant finden Sie zudem einen gemütlichen Schanigarten direkt
an der Ringstraße – nur für den Fall, dass Sie den Sommer auf Ihrem
Teller kombinieren möchten mit Sonne in Ihrem Gesicht.

Summer on your plate
“During the weeks from March until the beginning October, a cook can
basically draw on unlimited resources”, states Daniel Kraft enthusiastic
about the warmer season. “Everything grows and flourishes and my aim
is to enable our guests to enjoy this abundance of nature on their plates.”
Plates served ‘At Eight’ restaurant where Chef de Cuisine Daniel Kraft
and his team create culinary delights according to the the unique concept
of aroma cuisine. “For me aroma cuisine means emphasizing the pristine
taste of a product. A task, that can be done in various ways, one of which
is the use of essential oils.”
Cooking with Essential Oils
Premium, all-natural essential oils offer a great variety of culinary
possibilities and enhance the available range of spices in an exciting way.
It is necessary, however, to be very precise. “It is important to only add
the smallest amounts, e.g., a single drop. Even small portions are able
to produce a very intense taste. But if the correct amount is used for the
proper dish, essential oils are surely an exciting addition to one’s cooking.
But they can never be a complete surrogate for fresh herbs”, explains
Daniel Kraft.
That is why during summertime fresh herbs are one of the most important
elements in his culinary creations. “Next to a regional focus herbs are a
consistent theme in almost all of my courses. Even for desserts they can
be used in an exciting way. To name only one example, our thyme ice
cream was very popular among our guests and in great demand.”
at eight head chef Daniel Kraft, who has been awarded two toques by
the Gourmet Guide Gault Millau, changes the restaurant’s menu every
three weeks. Here are some examples of his culinary creations: Goose
liver, Almond brioche, Green apple, Buttermilk; Monkfish cheek, Smoked
bell pepper, Sepia risotto, Ricotta; Rabbit, Lobster tramezzini, Jerusalem
artichokes, Violet mustard; Iced brittle, Mango, Brittle cake.
at eight dresses up for the evening
It is, however, not only at eight’s culinary concept that is unique. The
restaurant’s interior also offers variety as every afternoon it dresses up
for the evening. Yes, you read correctly, just like people like to dress up
for the evening, the Restaurant changes its look for the nighttime hours
as well.
The scene change is relatively quick, but not without excitement. At 3 p.m.
in the afternoon, the blinds are drawn at the restaurant so that at eight
can get ready for the night. Mirrors appear, lamps are decorated, candles
emerge and are lit, and curtains create a romantic mood, an ambience that
harmonizes perfectly with the nighttime feeling. The whole color palette
changes as well. The fresh linden green that is so befitting for breakfast
and lunch makes way for far more dramatic red and violet in the evening.
The secret behind the wow effect: colorful, tailored covers are slipped over
the chairs, instantly giving the room a glamorous appearance.
Additionally, you will find a comfortable outdoor seating area (Schanigarten)
in front of the restaurant – just in case you would like to combine the summer
on your plate with the sun in your face.

durch Weinberge und Wald auf den Kahlenberg, den bekanntesten

Hiking in Vienna

Johann Strauss’s “Blue Danube” waltz, Austria’s unofficial national
anthem, pays tribute to the Vienna’s river. The Danube still plays
an important role in everyday life in the country’s capital. With the
Danube floodplain, Old Danube, Danube Island, and Danube Canal
forming an integral part of the city, the riverbanks and beaches are

backdrop. The collections will be presented in front of the Karawanken
