From the ENZ2000
to the EDW3000
This system serves as the platform
for the EDW.collector meter
reading system. The new system
has several new functionalities
that were lacking in the previous
ENZ2000 and it is also compliant
with tomorrow’s IT architecture.
The second project step was to
integrate the old data retrieval
software ENZ into the new database
platform EDW, using the
EDW.command development.
Any “old” ENZ2000 can now be
controlled and monitored with
a “new” EDW3000 system. This
was the prerequisite to enable a
seamless switch from the old to
the new system environment.
Flexible resource
management
The third and current project step
is the development and completion
of the new data collection
module EDW.collector to complete
the whole migration process. The
architecture of the new collector is
more flexible in terms of installation
and performance configuration
compared with the ENZ2000.
One or more „Command Control
Servers“ perform the management
of reading schedules and distribute
reading jobs to the individual
collection machines. This server
level can consist of 1-n machines,
depending on the required overall
performance.
Comservers and
open meter engines
The second level is the “reading
machines”. They are not limited by
number and can be separated with
firewalls or DMZ from the main
network. The EDW.collector´s
comservers support GSM, GPRS,
analogue and digital PSTN, ISDN,
Powerline, and TCP/IP-based network
connections.
The third system level is „data
translation servers“ where the
raw data from meters is analysed
and separated into measurement
data, status information, and load
profile data. A new feature is the
standardisation of meter-specific
parameters in the software system.
All meter-related program parts
are encapsulated in separate
OME drivers. These drivers can be
installed into the main system at
any time and without the need to
adapt or upgrade the main system
installation.
OME drivers contain information
Datenbank
on the data protocol of the meter,
the communication media used,
instructions for data interpretation,
and device parametrisation, as
well as screen design information
for the EDW3000 meter device
screen.
Writing drivers is not limited to
GÖRLITZ staff only - anyone
interested can receive the driver
specification and can create
their own drivers for their meter
equipment. This open handling is
very important for future software
integration as even standardised
DLMS meters vary so considerably
that the ENZ2000 already recognises
7 different DLMS drivers.
Standardised interconnectivity
The individual modules of the
EDW.collector can run on a single
PC or can be distributed to an
unlimited number of servers – if
a higher performance is required.
The communication between the
EDW.collector’s modules is carried
out using the new Microsoft Messaging-Queue
standard (MSQS).
MSQS is a scalable application
connectivity system that is capable
of managing data exchange in high
volumes and operates on Windows
2000/2003 and Windows XP. The
first version of the EDW.collector
will be released in February next
year, followed by individual driver
development.
