Test & Measurement
AWT Global introduces PIM Tester for Laboratory and QA
helpful for recording measurement
graphs. Every screenshot
offers fields for entering special
DUT or user data (for example,
workstation identifier, DUT type
or serial numbers) and entries
can be made via a keyboard or
a bar code scanner.
■ AWT Global LLC
www.awt-global.com
AWT Global has launched a
new line of Passive Intermodulation
(PIM) Testers - the PIM
S1L Series. These analyzers are
well suited to meet the requirements
of Laboratory and Quality
Assurance applications and
are offered in the 700, 850, 900,
1800, 1900, 2000, 2100 and
2600 MHz mobile communications
bands.
Other bands and customized
frequency combinations are
also available on request. PIM
S1L features an adjustable RF
signal power range of 15 dBm
to 44 dBm (higher power levels
are available). It has also a soft
power up (SPU) function, ramping
measurement power up
slowly. This is a feature particularly
helpful to avoid strong
reflections when measuring
antennas, The analyzer excels
by providing a receiver sensitivity
of -172 dBc, a measurement
carrier accuracy of ±0.35 dB and
a noise floor as low as -138 dBm
(@ 300 Hz BW).In addition to
third order intermodulation products,
higher order IM products
can also cause interference and
distortion in receiving bands.
The PIM S1L analyzers measure
and display up to four intermodulation
products simultaneously.The
analyzer runs on the
Windows OS, has a large 10.2”
touchscreen TFT and comes
standard with three (3) USB
ports and one Ethernet interface
for connecting to external
devices and networks. Measurement
results can be stored internally
or externally in numerical
form, as PDF reports, or as jpg
Manta Ray Detects
Hidden Cell Phones
That Are Turned Off
Berkeley Varitronics Systems,
Inc. (BVS) has released Manta
Ray detector in an effort to
search and seize contraband
and unauthorized cell phones
hidden inside a variety of
materials that trick common
metal detectors.
Manta Ray is a close-range,
highly sensitive detector that
specializes in identifying specific
but common components
found in all cell phones. This
allows Manta Ray to „see“
phones that are ACTIVE or
INACTIVE, ON or OFF and
even hidden behind walls
and dense materials such as
sheetrock, concrete and aluminum.
This is an important
distinction because most metal
detectors in use today are falsely
triggered by all metals
while Manta Ray detects the
presence of mobile phones
through a variety of metals
including aluminum, brass,
copper and more. In the search
for contraband cell phones
in correctional facilities, this
allows for swifter sweeps of
both individuals and cells. In
the case of unauthorized cell
phones in both public and private
facilities, Manta Ray provides
a faster and much less
intrusive way of searching for
cell phones to enforce unauthorized
cell phone use.
Wireless
Richardson RFPD Introduces Trio of 1 kW RF Power Amplifier Systems from Empower
Richardson RFPD, Inc. announced three
new 1 kW solid state broadband high
power amplifier systems from Empower
RF Systems, Inc. (Empower). Part
of Empower‘s „Size Matters“ campaign,
the devices offer unrivaled size and power
advantages, are packaged in a 5U, air cooled
chassis, and deliver more than 1 kW of output
power from 20 to 1000 MHz. Performance
is guaranteed over the full bandwidth
and temperature.
Built-in control, monitoring and protection
functions include user interface capabilities
and event logs that allow for remote
management and diagnostics via an embedded
web server, enabling simple network
managed site status monitoring and control
by connecting the units‘ Ethernet ports to a
LAN. Using a web browser and the units‘
IP addresses (IPV6) allows ease of access
with the benefit of multilevel security. The
control system cores support hardware
encryption and run embedded, Linux operating
systems. These 1 kW products are
designed to be continuously monitored for
critical performance parameters, including
temperature, current consumption, and voltage
levels, with protection and shutdown
options available via the microcontrollers.
This high level of device management
combined with detailed thermal simulations
and heat spreading techniques result in
high reliability and ruggedness, making the
devices ideally suited for high power continuous
wave (CW), modulated and pulse
applications.
