EU Bomb Data System
Historically, European law
enforcement agency experts
dealing with incidents involving
explosives were lacking a European
database to share information and
intelligence, for investigative and research
purposes. The EU Bomb Data
System (EBDS) came along and filled
this gap.
Why the EBDS?
The EBDS was a need identified by
EU explosives experts. Whenever an
EOD/CBRN-related incident occurs
anywhere, specialist units start the long
process of gathering the necessary technical
intelligence and information about
that incident (like the kind of explosives
used), that will ensure they are upto-date
on the latest terrorist and criminal
developments in this area, as well as
the measures used for countering them.
If you’re lucky, the access to such information
is possible on a bilateral basis,
but most of the time it’s based on unofficial,
not-fully trusted sources like the
media, and requires a lot of time, effort
and research.
The EBDS includes forum capabilities,
allowing experts to interact directly, in
real time, exchange questions, thoughts
and any other issues with the experts
from different EU authorities in Member
States.
What are the advantages
and added value of the
EBDS?
First of its kind: No other IT tool on
explosives and CBRN incidents has be-
What does the EBDS do?
The EBDS is a dual system which includes
two powerful databases: one for
explosive-related incidents and another
for chemical, biological, radiological
and nuclear (CBRN) ones.
It also provides users with specific libraries,
where the expert can upload and
access any kind of file, in the most commonly
used file formats.
