sandwiches. As you would expect, we discussed
many interesting topics and just enjoyed the
evening.

would be especially pleased to meet with any DA
Alumni coming to Croatia, be it on business or
holiday.
The idea for establishing the Zagreb Chapter
was actually the joint idea and effort of Mr Jan
Kickert, former Austrian Ambassador to Croatia,
Mr Georg Diwald, other Alumni from and/or
currently in Croatia, and me, and we just had to
agree on a date and place and schedule our first
meeting.
On a personal note, I wanted to give something
back to the institution which supported me and
where I spent one of the most interesting years
of my life. I also wanted to show to my wife,
who is Japanese, that Zagreb is becoming more
and more international and that a good number
of DA Alumni live and work here, contrary to
what one would normally expect when comparing
Zagreb with Vienna, Paris, Berlin and other
major European and world cities.
Regarding the general plans for the chapter‘s
future, we would like to establish some kind of
cooperation with the Croatian Ministry of Foreign
and European Affairs and its Diplomatic
Academy in Zagreb, as we believe that each and
every one of us brings some expertise which may
be helpful to Croatia and its officials in this EU

17–26 August: Visit to Varaždin Špancirfest
(street festival)
21 September – 1 October: Visit to Varaždin
Baroque Evenings (Austria is the Partner
Country of the festival, planned appearance of
Wiener Sängerknaben; baroque grape harvest)
Sunday, 7 October: Zagreb Marathon
December: Christmas gathering
