"An interesting point which is not to be
sniffed at is the capacity that such a computer
centre offers. Currently, we host around
400 customer systems. Since we have had the
opportunity to use servers not just like big,
bulky cupboards, the capacity has increased
immensely," explains Zimmermann. Server
hardware can be reduced by virtualising it.
This specifically means: Using particular technologies,
many applications can be stored on
one system.

Partners when it comes to broadband
Broadband supply for Bocholt's businesses
is a joint project with the business development
of the city of Bocholt and Bocholt's
energy and water supply. "It is especially important
in the economic area to have a fast,
reliable and affordable internet connection",
explains Peter Tiemann, who supported the
project. Broadband offers fast data transfer
in both directions - a feature conventional
DSL simply couldn't offer. Tiemann continues:
"Nothing is possible without the internet.
To ensure "a lot" can happen and that data is
sent quickly and on a larger scale, an optimal
connection to the net is imperative." The customer
receives the professional broadband
connection via a so-called Point of Presence
(POP) directly in their industrial area. The
lines are wired radially and are operated
through a central provider (e.g. Telekom).
"Depending on the version, we can install
several of these 'BackBone connections' or a
fibre optic line. This is always discussed individually
with the customer and adapted to the
individual needs", Tiemann says.
Available across Germany and the world
By no means are the professional broadband
connections through Lanfer Systemhaus limited
to Bocholt and its surrounding area. Finally
Peter Tiemann explains: "If somewhere in
Germany at least three business join up, we can
also provide a broadband POP there".
In addition, the services of the computer
centre can also be used worldwide. Peter
Tiemann finally adds: "With a good internet
connection, customers from all over the
world can rely on our services and resort to
them". ◀
