The “MANEO campaign
for tolerance”
The main financial support comes from the Berlin’s
administrational ‘department for education,
youth and sport’. The sub-department responsible
for us is the one for ‘homosexual ways of life’.
We have not received any major rise in the financial
support coming from this department
since 1993, which means that we have to rely on
donations.
This year we received lottery money from the
“German Lottery Foundation Berlin” (DKLB).
We would like to use this to extend our PR work.
It has made possible the biggest PR campaign
in over ten years!
Some things change, some do not
Even though Berlin is well known for being a
liberal city, there are still too many violent attacks
against gay people which regularly demand the
attention of the police and the law courts.
The finances available to our project in the past
years have not been nearly enough to support our
public relations work that highlights the changes
in our city and gay scene. The changes have been
caused by such factors as new arrivals in the city,
tourism and migration. We have often realised
that many victims and other people affected by
discrimination were not aware of our project and
the work that we do. Because of this many of
these people have not found their way to us or
the police. That is why the main aim of our information
campaign is to make ourselves and our
work known to the public. Thanks to the lottery
money we are able to react to the changed conditions
in Berlin.
Information and education
are the answers
MANEO now wants to spend the next three years
working out an information campaign which will
target the issue of anti-gay violence and award
this the public attention that it deserves. We aim
to make MANEO’s work popular to a wider audience
in the gay scene and to fight against the
widespread belittling of homophobic violence:
violence and discrimination shall not be simply
accepted as normality. This also means to report
any act of anti-gay violence. Due to the fact that
Berlin has developed into a popular travel destination,
we have decided to offer our information
material in several languages. In addition to this,
we want to make more people aware of the problem
of anti-gay violence. This we try by making
it more visible to the general public. We would
like to point out to the society that civil liberties
that have been fought for have to be protected
and that anti-gay violence does not have a place
in our city.

pour la tolérance MANEO
Notre projet est subventionné par la ville de Berlin,
à un niveau qui n’a pas évolué depuis 1993.
C’est pourquoi les dons jouent un rôle vital. Cette
année, le soutien de la loterie nationale de Berlin
(DKLB) nous a permis de réaliser une grande
campagne de prévention, la première de cette
importance depuis dix ans !
Certaines choses changent, d’autres pas
Malgré la libéralisation actuelle, l’homophobie
ne disparaît pas et reste un défi pour la justice et
la police.
Malheureusement, nos ressources financières
sont insuffisantes pour répondre aux changements
intervenus dans le milieu gay ces dernières
années. La communauté homosexuelle a gagné
en importance à travers l’immigration et le tourisme.
Beaucoup de victimes ou de témoins ne
connaissent pas notre travail, n’effectuent pas de
démarche auprès de la police ou ne prennent pas
contact avec nous. Nos campagnes d’information
ont pour objectif de corriger cette situation. Grâce
au soutien de la loterie nationale, nous avons pu
réagir pour la toute première fois à ces évolutions.
L’information et la prévention :
la réponse aux nouveaux défis
Nous souhaitons, à partir de 2006, mettre en
place une campagne, d’une durée de trois ans,
pour développer la tolérance à Berlin et rendre
l’opinion attentive à l’homophobie. Cette campagne
doit faire connaître l’offre de MANEO.
La violence et les discriminations homophobes
ne doivent plus être passées sous silence. Les
victimes doivent porter plainte, et nous sommes
là pour les y aider.
Les destinataires de notre campagne sont les
gays berlinois mais aussi les touristes, c’est pourquoi
notre matériel d’information est publié en
plusieurs langues.
D’autre part, nous nous adressons au grand public,
nous nous efforçons de recenser les agressions
homophobes et de faire en sorte d’éradiquer la
violence anti-gay de notre société.

Główny obszar naszej działalności finansowany
jest przez Wydziału Senatu Berlina ds. Edukacji,
Młodzieży i Sportu ze środków pochodzących na
jednołciowe związki partnerskie. Ponieważ od
1993 roku powyższe środki nie zostały znacząco
zwiększone, jesteśmy obecnie uzależnieni od
datków społecznych.
W bierzącym roku po raz pierwszy otrzymaliśmy
wsparcie ze strony Fundacji „Stiftung Deutsche
Klassenlotterie Berlin“ (DKLB), co pozwoli nam
zintensyfikować akcje informacyjne i umożliwi
rozpoczęcie pierwszej od 10 lat dużej kampanii
publicznej!
Niektóre rzeczy się zmieniają,
niektóre jednak nie
Akty przemocy przeciwko gejom mimo powszechnej
liberalizacji zdarzają się w Berlinie i stanowią
wyzwanie dla policji i wymiaru sprawiedliwości.
Zarówno nasze miasto, jak i scena gejowska zmieniły
się znacząco w ostatnich latach. Jest to wynik
ruchów migracyjnych i turystyki. W trakcie naszej
pracy doświadczamy, iż wiele ofiar i świadków
przestępstw nie wie o naszej aktywności. W konsekwencji
wielu poszkodowanych nie zgłasza
się ani do MANEO ani na policję. Dlatego celem
naszej kampanii informacyjnej jest propagowanie
wiedzy o naszej pracy i ofercie, którą proponujemy.
Dzięki środkom z Fundacji możemy wreszcie
zareagować na zachodzące w Berlinie zmiany.
Informacje i wyjaśnienia
to nasza odpowiedź
W 2006 chcemy rozpocząć kampanię tolerancji w
Berlinie, w ramach której przez trzy lata będziemy
informować opinię publiczną o przemocy wobec
osób homoseksualnych. Z jednej strony zwrócimy
się w stronę środowiska gejów zaznajamiając ich
z ofertą MANEO i przeciwdziałać bagatelizowaniu
homofobicznej przemocy. W całym środowisku
będziemy przekonywać, by nie akceptowano
jakiejkolwiek dyskryminacji czy przemocy i zgłaszzano
każdorazowo takie wypadki do nas lub/i na
policję. Ze względu na dużą liczbę turystów nasze
materiały przygotowujemy w różnych wersjach
językowych. Z drugiej strony zwrócimy się w kierunku
opinii publicznej, tak by przypadki homofobicznej
przemocy docierały do jej świadomości.
Chcemy przekonywać i wyjaśniać, że zdobyte
wolności obywatelskie muszą być chronione i nie
powinno być w naszym społeczeństwie przyzwolenia
na przemoc wobec osób homoseksualnych.

Der Kernbereich unseres Projekts wird finanziell gefördert durch die Berliner Senatsverwaltung für Bildung, Jugend und
Sport, hier durch den Fachbereich für gleichgeschlechtliche Lebensweisen. Seit 1993 haben wir keine bedeutende
Erhöhung unserer Fördersumme erhalten und sind deshalb auf Spenden angewiesen.
In diesem Jahr wurden wir erstmals mit Geldern der „Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin“ (DKLB) bedacht, mit denen
wir unsere Öffentlichkeitsarbeit ausbauen möchten. Das ermöglicht uns die erste große Aufmerksamkeitskampagne
seit 10 Jahren!
Manche Dinge ändern sich,
manche nie
Gewalttaten gegen Schwule ereignen sich trotz aller
Liberalisierung nach wie vor in Berlin und fordern regelmäßig
Polizei und Justiz heraus. Die Stadt wie auch die
schwulen Szenen haben in den letzten Jahren Veränderungen
erlebt. Dazu beigetragen haben Zuzug, Migration
und Tourismus. Wir erfahren in unserer Arbeit, dass viele
Betroffene, sowohl Opfer als auch Zeugen von Gewalttaten,
weder unsere Angebote noch unsere Arbeit kennen.
Daraus folgt, dass viele Betroffene weder den Weg
zu uns, noch zur Polizei finden. Deshalb zielt unsere
Informationskampagne darauf, Wissen über unsere
Arbeit und unsere Angebote zu verbreiten. Dank der
Stiftungsgelder können wir nun erstmals auf die veränderten
Berliner Bedingungen reagieren.
Information und Aufklärung
heißt die Antwort
Ab 2006 wollen wir für die Dauer von 3 Jahren eine
Informationskampagne in Berlin beginnen, die dem
Problem schwulenfeindlicher Gewalt zu mehr Aufmerksamkeit
verhelfen soll. Zum einen wollen wir die Angebote
von MANEO in den schwulen Szenen selbst bekannter
machen und gegen die auch dort verbreitete Bagatellisierung
homophober Gewalt angehen: Gewalt und
Diskriminierung dürfen nicht einfach hingenommen
werden, dazu gehört auch, entsprechende Fälle zu
melden und /oder zur Anzeige zu bringen. Da Berlin
in den letzten Jahren zu einem der weltweit populärsten
Reiseziele geworden ist, werden wir unser Informationsmaterial
zudem in mehreren Sprachen anbieten.
Zum anderen wollen wir unser Anliegen einer breiteren
Öffentlichkeit vermitteln, indem wir schwulenfeindliche
Gewalt sichtbar machen. Wir wollen die Gesellschaft
darauf hinweisen, dass errungene bürgerliche Freiheiten
geschützt werden müssen und deshalb schwulenfeindliche
Gewalt keinen Platz in der Mitte unserer Gesellschaft
hat.
