For many years I have followed with respect and compassion MANEO’s professional efforts in supporting the victims of violence as well as their focus on educational
and informational work. Even though Berlin has earned the reputation of being a tolerant city, there is still a lot of work to be done in order for gays and lesbians
o live free from discrimination. There is still the need for advice and support, and above all informing society. Bearing this in mind I commend the current efforts
of MANEO to extend their violence preventative public relations projects. While the senate’s department for Education Youth and Sport has financially supported the
project since 1990, Berlin has set another mark by extending the support of a new campaign for information and tolerance organised by MANEO with the help of the
funds from the German lottery Berlin. Berlin takes a serious interest in defending its reputation of being an open and tolerant city. I would be delighted if many people
from all walks of life express their disapproval towards violence and exclusion also towards homosexuals, so that they make it clear that they support anti-violence
projects like MANEO.

The gay anti-violence project MANEO in partnership with Mann-O-Meter has been in existence for 16 years. MANEO is the most experienced gay anti violence project
in Germany. We have a huge volume of phone calls every single day. We advise and support over 300 victims of violence every year. Another important part of our
work is the documentation of anti gay activities in Berlin and the county of Brandenburg. The aim of our work is to contribute to show that anti gay violence is not
a petty crime and bring this to light. Another important part of our work is anti violent public relations work. The latter is there to point out the dangers of anti gay
violence and to indicate that it remains society’s responsibility to spread sufficient information to overcome homophobia. Without the help of our volunteers, as well
as the many of our supporters who have accompanied our project over the years, we couldn’t have provided the quality of support and advice that our project offers
today. I would like to express my thanks to all of you. We would like to extend and develop our project work. In order to be able to do this, we continue to rely upon
our friends and supporters. This year, as in any other year, we depend upon donations.

Cela fait de nombreuses années que je suis, avec respect et sympathie, l’action et le professionnalisme de MANEO, projet qui œuvre en faveur des victimes d’actes
de violence et effectue un travail de prévention. Berlin est certes connue pour être une ville tolérante ; cependant, il reste encore beaucoup à faire afin que les discriminations
contre les gays et les lesbiennes ne disparaissent. Le besoin en matière de conseil, d’aide et de prévention reste plus que jamais nécessaire. Je salue les actions
de prévention et le travail de relations publiques de MANEO. Pour que Berlin conserve sa réputation de ville tolérante et ouverte sur le monde, notre municipalité
soutient l’association et ses projets. Je souhaite qu’un maximum de personnes que possible rejettent l’homophobie et les violences homophobes, soutiennent le projet
et marquent ainsi leur refus de l’intolérance et de l’exclusion.

Le projet MANEO de l’association Mann-O-Meter existe depuis 16 ans, à Berlin. MANEO est l’initiative la plus aboutie en matière de lutte contre l’homophobie en
Allemagne. Chaque jour, nous sommes interpellés. Chaque année, nos écoutants prennent en charge plus de 300 témoignages. Outre notre ligne d’écoute anonyme,
nous répertorions les actes homophobes à Berlin et dans les environs. Par notre travail, nous souhaitons montrer à quel point l’homophobie est ancrée dans la société
et souvent minimisée. Un autre domaine d’action est la prévention afin d’informer sur notre travail et d’interpeller la société pour lutter contre l’homophobie.
Cette action ne serait bien entendu pas possible sans l’aide de nos bénévoles et de nombreux soutiens. Je tiens à les remercier et à leur exprimer ma reconnaissance.
Nous souhaitons développer notre projet. A cette fin, les bénévoles, sponsors et soutiens sont les bienvenus. Les dons constituent une aide nécessaire à la poursuite
de notre projet.

Od wielu lat z szacunkiem i sympatią obserwuję profesjonalną działalność MANEO skierowaną do ofiar przemocy, jak i pracę edukacyjną w ramach tego projektu.
Pomimo że Berlin słusznie uznawany jest za tolerancyjne miasto, jest jeszcze wiele do zrobienia, aby geje i lesbijki mogli żyć tutaj naprawdę wolni od wszelkiej
dys-kryminacji. Wciąż bowiem potrzebne nam są grupy pomocowe, jak również społeczne akcje informacyjne. Z tego względu szczególnie cieszy mnie rozpoczęcie
przez MANEO działalności publicznej w celu przeciwdziałania przemocy. Od 1990 r. Senat Miasta Berlina wspiera aktywność tego stowarzyszenia, tak aby Berlin nadal
uważany był za otwarte i tolerancyjne miasto dla gości z całego świata. Będę szczególnie rad jeśli, wiele osób da świadectwo swojego sprzeciwu wobec przemocy
i dyskryminacji także w stosunku do osób homoseksualnych i będzie wspierać projekty przeciwdziałające przemocy, dając tym samym znak przeciw nietolerancji i agresji.

Od 16 lat przy stowarzyszeniu Mann-O-Meter istnieje projekt przeciw przemocy MANEO. MANEO jest najbardziej doświadczonym gejowskim projektem przeciw
przemocy w Niemczech. Codziennie odbieramy wiele telefonów, nasi pracownicy doradzają rocznie ponad 300 osobom dotkniętym przemocą. Dalsza część naszej
aktywności polega na zbieraniu informacji o wypadkach przemocy, do których doszło w Berlinie i okolicach. Poprzez naszą pracę pragniemy pokazywać, iż wciąż
dochodzi do przemocy przeciwko osobom homoseksualnym, która w niektóryh środowiskach społecznych jest banalizowana i skrywana. Trzecim głównym obszarem
naszej działalności są podejmowane przez nas prewencyjne akcje społeczne. Tylko tak możemy efektywnie przeciwdziałać przemocy. Wskazujemy w nich na istniejące
zagrożenia i przekonujemy, że w dalszym ciągu zadaniem publicznym powinny być akcje emancypacyjne służące zwalczaniu homofobii. Bez olbrzymiej pomocy
ze strony naszych wolontariuszy oraz wszystkich, którzy nas od wielu lat wspierają, nie byłoby możliwe stworzenie takiej oferty, jaką dziś możemy zaproponować.
To właśnie im wszystkim należy się wielkie podziękowanie i wdzięczność za ich wytrwałą pracę. Pragniemy nadal rozwijać i rozbudowywać nasze projekty. Zależy to
oczywiście od pomocy udzielanej nam przez nasze przyjaciółki i naszych przyjaciół oraz wszystkich, którzy nas wspierają. Ale przede wszystkim każdego roku uzależnieni
jesteśmy od nowych funduszy, które zostają nam darowane.

Grussworte
Seit vielen Jahren verfolge ich mit Respekt und Sympathie den professionellen Einsatz von
MANEO zugunsten von Opfern von Gewalt sowie die gezielte Aufklärungsarbeit im Rahmen
des Projektes. Auch wenn Berlin zu Recht in dem Ruf steht, eine tolerante Stadt zu sein, bleibt
noch viel zu tun, damit Schwule und Lesben wirklich frei von Diskriminierung leben können.
Weiterhin besteht noch Bedarf an Beratung und Hilfe, nicht zuletzt auch an Aufklärung in der
Gesellschaft.
Ich begrüße vor diesem Hintergrund die aktuellen Bemühungen von MANEO, seine gewaltpräventive
Öffentlichkeitsarbeit auszubauen. Während die Senatsverwaltung für Bildung,
Jugend und Sport MANEO als Projekt sei 1990 finanziell fördert, setzt Berlin mit der
Förderung einer neuen „Informations- und Toleranzkampagne“ von MANEO durch die
Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin ein weitere Zeichen. Berlin ist es ernst, seinen Ruf
als eine weltoffene und tolerante Stadt zu verteidigen.
Ich würde mich freuen, wenn viele Menschen und Personen des öffentlichen Lebens ihr Nein
zu Gewalt und Ausgrenzung auch gegenüber Homosexuellen damit zum Ausdruck bringen,
dass sie Anti-Gewalt-Projekte wie das MANEO unterstützen und fördern.
Seit 16 Jahren besteht nun das schwule Anti-Gewalt-Projekt MANEO von Mann-O-Meter e.V.
in Berlin. Täglich klingelt bei uns mehrfach das Telefon, über 300 Betroffene von Gewalt
haben unsere Mitarbeiter im letzten Jahr beraten. Ein weiterer wichtiger Bestandteil unserer
Projektarbeit besteht darin, schwulenfeindliche Gewalttaten in Berlin und im Umland zu
erfassen.
Mit unserer Arbeit tragen wir dazu bei, dass die noch immer in vielen gesellschaftlichen
Teilbereichen bagatellisierte schwulenfeindliche Gewalt aus dem Dunkelfeld herausgeführt
wird. Nur so können wir effektiv Gewaltprävention leisten. Wir weisen auf Gefahren hin und
machen gleichzeitig deutlich, dass emanzipatorische Aufklärungsarbeit nach wie vor eine
gesellschaftliche Pflichtaufgabe ist, um Homophobie zu überwinden.
Ohne die tatkräftige Hilfe unserer ehrenamtlichen Mitarbeiter sowie vieler weiterer Unterstützerinnen
und Unterstützer, die unsere Projektarbeit zum Teil bereits seit vielen Jahren
begleiten, wären die bestehenden Leistungsangebote nicht aufrecht zu erhalten. Ihnen allen
gilt unsere Anerkennung und Dank.
Wir wollen unser Projekt weiterentwickeln und ausbauen. Dabei sind wir jedoch auf Hilfe
und Förderung, vor allem jedes Jahr aufs Neue auf Spenden angewiesen.
