Die Jahreszeiten liegen entgegengesetzt. Im
Süden um Kapstadt und Port Elizabeth kann es
dann wie am Mittelmeer manchmal empfindlich
kühl werden, vor allem nachts, auch im
Hochland, wo z.B. Johannesburg und Pretoria
liegen. Die Küstenstreifen von KwaZulu-Natal
mit Durban sind subtropisch bis tropisch.

Land of diversity
South Africa – this means images one will
never forget. The Table Mountain: dead
straight an orange-blue sky cuts its sharp
edge in the evening light. At its feet the
lights of Cape Town are twinkling. Colorful
flowerage: the huge blossom of a pink
protea opens like a child-painted sun.
In Fynbos along the Garden Route grow
more than 2,000 plant species. Safari: at
dawn a pride of lions tear apart the prey
of the nighttime pursuit. South Africa
benefits from more than 120 national
parks, protective areas and private animal
reservations. Beaches: snow-white
sand lanes cover the coasts for kilometers.
From July to December the cool waters
in the South of the countries are the
romping place for the whales. And: the
Football World Championship casts its
signs in advance.
Located between the Atlantic and the
Indian Ocean, South Africa covers the
entire tip of the continent. Spectacular
landscapes, a breath-taking abundance
of animals and plants and a complex culture
make aficionados adore this place.

Half deserts in the West and subtropical woods in the
East, in-between the bizarre chain of the Drakensberg
in the midst of scrubland and veld, in the South
sweet valleys with picturesque villages in the wine
area: the country offers the close-to-nature visitor
an extraordinary variety. So does the culture, having
been influenced by the most diverse peoples. Zulu,
Sotha, Xhosa, Swazi, to mention only a few African
tribes, plus Whites, Indians and Malays; they have
developed into a multicultural society. Their traditions
are mirrored in the kitchen with “a thousand
faces”, in a stunning prosperity of artistic creation
and – last not least – in wonderful wines.
Main role for football cities
The cities, apart from Cape Town, have not been of
great touristic interest in the past. This year they
are playing the main roles; at the Football Championship
they will present their best image and
completely crazy football fans. “The best World Cup
ever”, promises Johannesburg. “No ticket? No problem!”,
shouts Durban and attracts people with the
biggest beach party for public viewing. A huge army
of well-trained policemen will provide the security.
In many other global sports events South Africa has
proven that they can handle it.
