Our cover feature is devoted to the “adamas” – the most noble and unyielding of all precious stones. This leads us to the legendary Duke and Duchess of Windsor and their almost 40 years of mutual passion for Cartier and the fine art of jewellery. We also turn our attention to an accessory imbued with symbols: the glove. In recent times the glove has assumed the role of an indispensable accompaniment for the fashion conscious, yet in the Middle Ages gloves played a major role in acts of signing: treaties were regarded as signed and sealed after a glove had been handed over. In line with the spirit of the season, we have not overlooked the world of fur, where fashion designers are offering a sheer inexhaustible wealth of inspiration. In this spirit too, we wish you a year 2012 brimming with inspiration and enjoyment.

unser Titelthema gilt dem Glanz des „Adamas“ – dem Unbezwingbaren<br />
und edelsten unter den Edelsteinen. In diesem Kontext richtet<br />
sich unser Fokus auf das legendäre Herzogspaar von Windsor und seine<br />
nahezu 40 Jahre dauernde geteilte Leidenschaft für die hohe Schmuckkunst<br />
von Cartier. Das exklusive Haus galt als diskreter Begleiter des<br />
Herzogspaares auf ihrem luxuriösen Lebensweg. „Wallis und Edward“<br />
fungierten als Stilikonen und setzten neue Maßstäbe in Sachen modische<br />
Trends. Heute zählen die kunstvoll gefertigten Schmuckstücke<br />
zu den bewegendsten Exponaten der Collection Cartier, die bereits in<br />
den größten Museen der Welt präsentiert wurden. Ein weiterer thematischer<br />
Fokus ist einem symbolreichen Accessoire gewidmet: dem<br />
Handschuh. In jüngster Zeit noch als das obligate Vademecum für<br />
den stilbewussten Menschen fungierend, nahm der Handschuh im<br />
Mittelalter sogar eine unterzeichnende Funktion ein, wonach Verträge<br />
durch das Überreichen eines Handschuhs besiegelt wurden. Vor dem<br />
Altar verhielt es sich nicht anders: Braut und Bräutigam tauschten je<br />
einen Handschuh als Unterpfand ihrer Liebe aus und bestätigten damit<br />
gleichzeitig die Rechtskräftigkeit der Ehe. Dabei galt Ziegenleder als<br />
ein ganz besonderer Liebesmittler. Diesen Ambitionen folgend, haben<br />
wir auch die Hochzeit, das Hochzeitsprotokoll und die Couture, die diesem<br />
Anlass einen unvergesslichen Status verleiht, zu einem primären<br />
Thema dieser Edition gemacht. Dem Esprit der Saison folgend, darf<br />
natürlich der Blick auf die kreative Welt der Pelzcouture nicht fehlen,<br />
deren Modeschöpfer alljährlich eine unerschöpfliche Inspirationsvielfalt<br />
bieten. In diesem Sinne wünschen wir Ihnen ein inspirationsreiches<br />
und genussvolles <strong>2012</strong>.<br />
