Our cover feature is devoted to the “adamas” – the most noble and unyielding of all precious stones. This leads us to the legendary Duke and Duchess of Windsor and their almost 40 years of mutual passion for Cartier and the fine art of jewellery. We also turn our attention to an accessory imbued with symbols: the glove. In recent times the glove has assumed the role of an indispensable accompaniment for the fashion conscious, yet in the Middle Ages gloves played a major role in acts of signing: treaties were regarded as signed and sealed after a glove had been handed over. In line with the spirit of the season, we have not overlooked the world of fur, where fashion designers are offering a sheer inexhaustible wealth of inspiration. In this spirit too, we wish you a year 2012 brimming with inspiration and enjoyment.

G+F, Dr. Onur: Sie sind Chairman des 1994 gegründeten FIFA Medical<br />
Assessment and Research Center. Was ist der grundlegende Fokus<br />
und welche Ambitionen prägen die Arbeit dieser Institution?<br />
Prof. Dvorák: Diese Institution ist eine virtuelle Forschungsstätte<br />
und stellt ein absolutes Novum dar. Wir verfügen nicht über Gebäude<br />
oder große Räumlichkeiten, sondern definieren Forschungsprojekte<br />
und führen sie dort durch, wo entsprechend optimale Bedingungen<br />
vorherrschen. Unsere Zielsetzungen werden unter anderem von Problemen<br />
definiert, die gerade das Fußballspiel auszeichnen und die<br />
wir unter dem Topos „Medicine for Football“ zu lösen versuchen.<br />
Man muss erfassen können, woher die Probleme kommen, und<br />
dabei hatten wir bislang ein gutes Gespür. Eine Studie führten wir<br />
beispielsweise am heißesten Punkt der Türkei mit nicht akklimatisierten<br />
Spielern durch. Unter Einsatz von Hightech untersuchten<br />
wir die Body-core-Temperatur und stellten um die 30. Minute eine<br />
kritische Situation fest, die z. B. mit einer Body-core-Temperatur von<br />
über 40 °C einherging. Auf Basis der gesammelten medizinischen<br />
Fakten haben wir in der 30. Minute eine 2-3 minütige Abkühlphase<br />
für die Spieler angeordnet. Dem wurde auch Folge geleistet und wir<br />
haben den Spielern Eistücher vorbereitet, die einer Kollabierung bzw.<br />
Überhitzung vorbeugten. Oberstes Gebot ist für uns die Gesundheit<br />
des Spielers. So stehen hinter dem Konzept „Medicine for Football“<br />
unterschiedlichste Projekte, die wir durchführen.
