GF Germany - Winter/Spring 2012

Our cover feature is devoted to the “adamas” – the most noble and unyielding of all precious stones. This leads us to the legendary Duke and Duchess of Windsor and their almost 40 years of mutual passion for Cartier and the fine art of jewellery. We also turn our attention to an accessory imbued with symbols: the glove. In recent times the glove has assumed the role of an indispensable accompaniment for the fashion conscious, yet in the Middle Ages gloves played a major role in acts of signing: treaties were regarded as signed and sealed after a glove had been handed over. In line with the spirit of the season, we have not overlooked the world of fur, where fashion designers are offering a sheer inexhaustible wealth of inspiration. In this spirit too, we wish you a year 2012 brimming with inspiration and enjoyment.

Baur Au Lac
The Baur au Lac is a founder member of the Leading
Hotels of the World, and its peerless reputation,
with its own park and privileged situation
between the
bustling banking
district
and the shores
of the Lake,
has stood the
test of time
for six generations.
No less
important than the situation and the architectural
charms of the rooms and suites is the service and
the celebration of a very special brand of service
culture that has maintained the highest of standards
for some time now. The Baur au Lac has
earned the praise of its sophisticated guests for
160 years with the diversity, elegance and unerring
taste with which the rooms are decorated. The name
behind the redesigning of the salons and two of
the legendary restaurants is none other than the
Parisian star designer Pierre-Yves Rochon.
Park Hyatt Zurich
Just a short walk from the shopping mile “Bahnhofstrasse”
and the lake of Zurich, right in the city centre
of Zurich, sits the exclusive Park Hyatt Zurich. The hotel’s
glass-fronted exterior hides what one expects to see inside,
namely a warm ambience, spaciousness, modern
architecture and contemporary art. The 142 generously
sized guestrooms and suites offer luxurious comfort
and avant-garde communications technology, including
high-speed Internet access and flat screens from
Bang & Olufsen. The restaurant “parkhuus” with its open
show kitchen places emphasis on distinctive flavours
and exceptional quality, so that a delicious culinary experience
is guaranteed. The stylish ONYX bar fascinates
with its open and original design. “The Lounge” forms
with its open fireplace the heart of the hotel.
The Dolder Grand
The magnificent panorama of the city, Lake Zurich
and the Alps is unique for a city resort in the luxury
class. The world-famous British architect Lord Norman
Foster played a key role in coaxing the Dolder
from its Sleeping
Beauty existence. He
extended the former
traditional “Curhaus”
by adding elegant
wings and created
in the basement
area an unusually
striking spa section
that leads into something
reminiscent
of a stone canyon.
The Dolder Grand’s Top Suites are among the most
outré of their kind. One example of the flair of the United
Designers from London is the 400 square metres
Maestro Suite in the main building tower. The hotel
has a golf course and tennis courts and one of its restaurants
serves quite exceptional star-rated cuisine.
