Vortrag 1
Improving Productivity in the Development of
Software-based Systems
Chair: Wilhelm Schäfer
Auditorium HNF 9:15 - 10:00
Frances Paulisch, Siemens AG
The paper this keynote is based on, describes various
techniques for improving productivity in the development
of software-based systems. These build on
having a strong foundation regarding people and
processes.
On this solid foundation, it is important to do
requirements engineering well so that you develop
the right functionality, elicit also the non-functional
requirements, and have testable requirements.
Structure the system to avoid unnecessary complexity
and to take advantage of reuse. During the
development use an iterative and lean approach to
ensure that the product is realized as efficiently as
possible. Finally, work at a higher level of abstraction
through model-driven approaches and take advantage
of automation provide additional improvements
to productivity.
Dr. Frances Paulisch is
the head of the “Software
Initiative” at Siemens.
As such, she is responsible
for “best practice
sharing” on a broad set
of software engineering
topics Siemens-wide. The
“Software Initiative” is part
of Corporate Technology
and works closely with all
Siemens business units
doing software development.
Her main areas of interest are software architecture,
software processes and management topics. She
received her doctorate in software engineering at the
University of Karlsruhe. She is chair of the advisory
board of the “IEEE Software” magazine, a magazine
that bridges research and practice.
Namen.
