Der Transport von Gütern wird in ein- und derselben Intermodalen Transporteinheit (ITE)
oder demselben Straßenfahrzeug mit verschiedenen Verkehrsträgern abgewickelt. Es
erfolgt zwar ein Umschlag der Ladeeinheit, jedoch kein Umschlag der transportierten
Güter selbst.

Begleiteter Kombinierter Verkehr – Rollende Landstraße
LKW aller Art werden zur Gänze auf Spezialwagen mit durchgehend niedriger Ladefläche
(Niederflurwagen) befördert – die Fahrer reisen im Begleitwagen mit. Der Umschlag
erfolgt in Terminals über mobile Rampen. Die Fahrzeuge unterliegen Voraussetzungen,
die durch Streckenklassen und Lichtraumprofil der befahrenen Strecke bestimmt sind.

The combination of rail freight transport’s punctuality and safety with road transport's
flexibility results in a reliable and environmentally friendly logistics solution.
Freight transport is managed in one and the same Intermodal Transport Unit (ITU)
or the same road vehicle with different carriers, with the load unit, but not the
transported goods themselves, being transhipped.

Accompanied combined transport – Rolling Road
Complete trucks of any type are transported on trains with special freight cars
that all have low loading platforms (rolling road wagons) – the drivers travel in
accompanying coaches. Transshipment is made in terminals via mobile ramps.
The vehicles must meet the requirements regarding categories and loading
gauge applicable to the respective transport route.

Multimodal transport chains have the advantage that customers only buy that
part of a transport service needed to meet their individual requirements. Additional
services (such as stuffing/stripping, distribution, depot, repair) can also be provided
at the interfaces (terminals, ports).

services and provider of intermodal services covering everything from traditional

Rail Cargo Austria offers its customers a train network within Austria exclusively
available to intermodal transport that with a hub and spoke system daily interlinks
the terminals with the highest volumes of traffic in Austria overnight.

Starting from the timetable change on 04-04-2011, NINA will ensure the terminals
Wien Nordwest, Wien Freudenau, Wels, Salzburg, Villach, St. Michael, Graz,
Hall, Wolfurt, and Bludenz are interlinked; the terminal Wels serves as hub.

The use of own power cars and shuttle train sets allows further enhancing
schedulability and reliability. An online tool for bookings, tracking and tracing

Rail Cargo Austria ergänzt sein Intermodalportfolio um die Rollende Landstraße und
ist mit ihr bereits Marktführer in Europa. Mit hoher Frequenz der Züge und festem
Fahrplan wird ein leistungsfähiges Angebot für die Transportwirtschaft geboten. Die
mitfahrenden LKW-Lenker werden von einem Serviceunternehmen im Begleitwagen
gegen Entgelt mit Speisen und Getränken versorgt.
Entlastung der Umwelt
Angesichts der steigenden Umweltbelastungen ist es Ziel von Rail Cargo Austria
und der Vertriebstochter ÖKOMBI, durch weniger Verkehr auf den Straßen für eine
Entlastung der Umwelt und für mehr Lebensqualität (geringere Lärmbelastung,
Reduzierung des CO 2 -Ausstoßes, positive Gesundheitsaspekte) zu sorgen.

ROLA – Rolling Road
Transportation of a

The rolling road is a rail-bound
transport system consisting of
low-platform railway wagons
for the transportation of HGV
and accompanying passenger
wagon for the HGV drivers.
Rail Cargo Austria expanded its intermodal portfolio with the rolling road and has
already become a market leader with this concept on a Europe-wide scale. With the
high frequency of the trains and the fixed timetable, an efficient and comprehensive
service is being made available to the transportation industry. The accompanying
HGV drivers can buy food and drinks in the passenger wagon that are supplied by
a service company.
Reducing environmental impacts
In light of the increasing environmental impact, it is Rail Cargo Austria's and its
subsidiary ÖKOMBI's goal to ensure a reduced environmental burden and better
life quality (reduced noise exposure, reduction of the CO 2 emission, positive health
aspects) through less traffic circulation.
The ROLA not only conserves the environment, it also has many economical and
ecological advantages for the customers.

Im Rahmen des EU-Forschungsprojektes „CREAM” wurde unter Federführung von Rail
Cargo Austria ein in Europa einzigartiges Produktionskonzept „ISU – Innovativer Sattelauflieger
Umschlag“ entwickelt. Mit diesem System können erstmals auch nicht kranbare
Sattelauflieger auf der Schiene transportiert werden. Rail Cargo Austria bietet mit ISU eine
umweltfreundliche Transportalternative zum Straßentransport für Langstreckenverkehre.

Technische Angaben
• ISU deckt die gesamte Palette der 3-achsigen Sattelauflieger bis zum Megatrailer ab.
• Die Abmaße der Trailer dürfen bis zu 4 m Höhe und 2,6 m Breite erreichen.
• Trailer mit Reifengrößen von 850 mm bis hin zu 1150 mm Durchmesser können
verladen werden.

Innovative Semi-Trailer Handling Unit

time.
In the framework of the EU research project CREAM, a production concept “ISU –
Innovative Semi-Trailer Handling Unit” which is unique in Europe was developed under
the direction of Rail Cargo Austria. For the first time, this system also enables rail
transportation of non-craneable semi-trailers. With ISU, Rail Cargo Austria offers an
environmentally friendly transport alternative to road transport for long-haul traffic.

Technical data
• ISU covers the whole range of 3-axle semi-trailers to mega-trailers.
• The dimensions of the trailers may reach a height of up to 4 m and a width

Der MOBILER bringt Güter rasch und einfach auf die umweltfreundliche Schiene,
ohne auf die Vorteile der schnellen und flexiblen LKW-Zustellung bzw. -Abholung vor
Ort zu verzichten. Durch die neuartige hydraulische Hub- und Verschubeinrichtung ist
es möglich, dass ein Umschlag von Containern und Wechselbrücken überall rasch und
unkompliziert zwischen LKW und Waggon ohne Kran stattfinden kann.

Über 600 Behälter für unterschiedlichste Güter
Rail Cargo Austria hat bereits über 600 Behälter und 30 MOBILER-Fahrzeuge erfolgreich
im Einsatz und befördert damit knapp 1 Million Tonnen pro Jahr für folgende
Bereiche: Palettierte Güter in Schiebeplanenbehältern, Flüssigkeiten und Gefahrgüter
in Tankcontainern, leichte Schüttgüter wie Altpapier oder Müll in Schüttgutbehältern
sowie schwere Schüttgüter und Bauprodukte in Schüttguthalftainern und pulverförmige
Schüttgüter wie Dünger oder Kunststoffgranulate.

The MOBILER usefully combines
the advantages of rail and road
freight transport to one system.
The MOBILER quickly and easily puts goods on the environmentally friendly track
without forgoing the advantages of the fast and flexible delivery or respectively in
on-site pick-up by heavy goods vehicles (HGV). Through the novel hydraulic lifting
and moving equipment it is possible to transfer containers and swap trailers from a
HGV to a wagon in a quick and uncomplicated manner without using a crane.
More than 600 containers for different goods
Rail Cargo Austria is already successfully using over 600 containers and 30 MOBILER
vehicles by means of which it transports almost 1 million tons every year in the
following areas:
palletised goods in sliding tarpaulin containers, liquids and dangerous goods in tank
containers, light bulk goods such as used paper or waste in bulk good containers as
well as heavy bulk goods and construction products in bulk good halftainers and
bulk goods in powder form such as fertiliser or granulated synthetic material.
