EDITORIAL, OBSAH | INHALT | CONTENT
Vážení hosté,
hlavní sezóna letošního roku je téměř za námi. Přinesla
i další ročník Mezinárodního filmového festivalu, který opět
přivezl do Karlových Varů a do Grandhotelu Pupp řadu zajímavých
osobností. Jsme rádi, že mezi spokojené hosty hotelu
se zařadila taková jména jako Renée Zellweger
aDanny DeVito. Tyto a mnoho dalších celebrit pobývalo
v našem hotelu a všechny zde zanechaly svou stopu.
Ovšem stejně tak jako se připravujeme na příjezd každé
hvězdy, připravujeme se i na příjezd Vás, našich hostů.
Grandhotel Pupp se snaží být ve všech ohledech vždy důkazem

Geehrte Gäste,
die diesjährige Hauptsaison ist fast vorbei. Es ging ein weiterer Jahrgang des
internationalen Filmfestivals zu Ende. Er brachte nach Karlsbad und ins
Grandhotel Pupp wieder eine Reihe interessanter Persönlichkeiten. Wir sind
froh, dass sich zu den zufriedenen Hotelgästen solche Namen wie Renée
Zellweger und Danny DeVito einreihten. Diese, und viele andere „Celebrity“
fanden in unserem Hotel Unterkunft, alle hinterließen hier ihre Spur. Und genauso,
wie wir uns auf die Ankunft jeder Star vorbereiten, bereiten wir uns
auch auf Ihre Ankunft, unserer Gäste. Wir bemühen uns Ihnen eine einmalige
Atmosphäre in unserem, mit Geschichte umwobenem Hotel zu bieten.
Grandhotel Pupp bemüht sich in allen Hinsichten immer Beweis dafür zu sein,
dass an erster Stelle Sie, unsere Gäste sind.

Dear guests,
This year’s main season is almost over. Also another international film festival
has finished; it has brought many an interesting personality to both Karlovy
Vary and Grandhotel Pupp. We are delighted that names like Renée Zellweger
and Danny DeVito joined our list of satisfied hotel clients. These and many other
‘celebrities’ have stayed at our hotel and they all have left their footprints
here. Exactly the same care that we put into preparing a stay of each star we
put into preparing all our guests` stays. We make an effort to offer the unique
atmosphere of our history-embroidered hotel. In all aspects Grandhotel Pupp
tries to make it evident that you, our guests, are always the priority for us.
Let’s then experience the colourful autumn of Karlovy Vary and try out the
top standard of accommodation and services, may it be while tasting one of
the specialities served in the Grand Restaurant, or just while enjoying coffee
and cake prepared by our famous pastry-chefs. If you haven’t yet decided where

❚ Show Dance Gala 2007
Mistrovství České republiky ve figurálním valčíku
proběhlo již podeváté ve Slavnostním sále
Grandhotelu Pupp. Královnou a králem figurálního
valčíku Grandhotelu Pupp se mezi deseti páry
stali Petra Honzíková a David Kounovský z Plzně.
V následujících Show Dances vynikajícím výkonem
a dokonalou podívanou nadchli diváky Kateřina
Hrstková a Lukáš Bartuněk z Prahy.
❚ Show Dance Gala 2007
Die Meisterschaft der Tschechischen Republik in
Figurenwalzer fand bereits zum neunten Mal im
Festsaal von Grandhotel Pupp statt. Die Königin
und der König von Figurenwalzer im Grandhotel
Pupp wurden unter zehn Tanzpaaren Petra
Honzíková und David Kounovský aus Pilsen. In
folgenden Show Dances begeisterten die Zuschauer
Kateřina Hrstková und Lukáš Bartuněk
aus Prag mit ausgezeichneter Leistung und vollkommener
Darbietung.
❚ Show Dance Gala 2007
The championship of the Czech Republic in figure
waltz has been held in the Festive Hall of the
Grandhotel Pupp for the ninth time already. Petra
Honzíková and David Kounovský from Plzeň were
the best of ten pairs and became the queen and the
king of figure waltz of the Grandhotel Pupp.
Kateřina Hrstková and Lukáš Bartuněk from
Prague filled spectators with enthusiasm with their
perfect performance in the following Show Dances.
❚ Mezinárodní filmový festival
Kabaret - tímto slovem lze nejlépe charakterizovat
výpravu 42. ročníku stále prestižnějšího filmového
festivalu. V Grandhotelu Pupp si první červencový
víkend opět podávaly dveře filmové
hvězdy, režiséři, producenti a další významné
osobnosti filmového, politického a společenského
života. Slavnostní sál několikrát denně plnily
stovky diváků filmových projekcí. Festival také letos
trhal rekordy - akreditovalo se přes 12 000 účastníků,
480 projekcí vidělo bezmála 136 000 diváků.
❚ Internationales Filmfestival
Kabarett – mit diesem Wort kann man am besten die
Ausstattung des 42. Jahrgangs an Prestige immer mehr
gewinnenden Filmfestivals charakterisieren. Grandhotel
Pupp war wieder das erste Juli Wochenende voll
von Filmstars, Regisseure, Produzenten und weiteren
bedeutenden Persönlichkeiten aus der Welt des Films,
der Politik und des Gesellschaftslebens. Den Festsaal
füllten mehrmals täglich Hunderte Zuschauer der
Filmprojektionen. Festival brach auch dieses Jahr die
Rekorde – es akkreditierten sich über 12 000 Teilnehmer,
480 Projektionen sahen zirka 136 000 Zuschauer.
❚ The International Film Festival
A cabaret - this is the best word to characterize the
42nd year of the film festival whose reputation is
constantly growing. At the first weekend in July
the doors of the Grandhotel Pupp were open for
film stars, directors, producents and further important
personalities of film, political and social life.
Hundreds of people filled the Festive Hall several
times a day to see film performances. This year’s
festival also broke all records - more than 12,000
participants were accredited at it and almost
136,000 people saw 480 film performances.
❚ Festival Mitte Europa
Již 16. ročník festivalu Mitte Europa putoval
včervnu a červenci po celém regionu, přesahoval
i do Bavorska a Saska. Koncerty klasické hudby
a jazzu, výstavy a workshopy jsou již tradičně významnými
body v kalendáři událostí a zároveň
kulturním dialogem v česko - německém příhraničí.
Festival doputoval po osmi desítkách akcí až ke
slavnostnímu závěrečnému koncertu Classic
Meets Cuba v Grandhotelu Pupp.
❚ Festival Mitte Europa
Bereits der 16. Jahrgang des Festivals Mitte
Europa verlief im Juni und Juli in ganzer Region,
er reichte auch nach Bayern und Sachsen.
Konzerte der klassischen Musik und Jazz, Ausstellungen
und Workshops sind schon traditionell bedeutende
Termine im Kalender der Ereignisse und
gleichzeitig ein Kulturdialog im tschechisch-deutschen
Grenzgebiet. Festival kam nach achtzig
Veranstaltungen bis zum feierlichen Abschlusskonzert
Classic Meets Cuba im Grandhotel Pupp.
❚ The Festival Mitte Europa
The 16th Festival Mitte Europa travelled all over
the region in June and July. It also crossed the border
and entered Bavaria and Saxony. Concerts of
classical music and jazz, exhibitions and workshops
have become important points in the calendar
of events and, at the same time, a cultural dialogue
in Czech and German border regions.
After eight tens of events the festival arrived at the
Grandhotel Pupp to be finished with the final gala
concert Classic Meets Cuba.

“Hole 19“. If you go upstairs, you should take some

that there is no chance for you to finish it unless you
eat or drink something? The 9th hole is what you are
looking for. A terrace with refreshment will get you on
your feet again. At hole 18, there is a telephone for you
to order whatever you wish. Steaks, home-made pasta
or fishes from the lava grill? Salads, cheeses or bar dishes?
Or some of specialties prepared for you right before

Golfresort Karlovy Vary
Akciová společnost Golf Resort Karlovy Vary
vznikla spojením předních karlovarských firem
vroce 1996. Došlo nejprve k dlouhodobému pronájmu
městských pozemků, na kterých se golfové
hřiště nachází. Od této doby se akciová společnost
stala investorem a správcem a od roku 2004
majitelem areálu. Během krátké doby bylo hřiště
zrekonstruováno. Proběhla výstavba nové klubovny,
závlahového systému, odpališť, parkovací plochy,
došlo k obnově veškerých travních povrchů,
drenáží, vodních ploch a v neposlední řadě i strojového
parku. Ve spojení s polohou v malebné
krajině se tak golfové hřiště v Karlových Varech
zařadilo mezi renomovaná hřiště v Evropě.

Golf Resort Karlovy Vary A.G. entstand durch
Vereinigung der vorderen Karlsbader Firmen im
Jahre 1996. Zuerst wurden die Stadtgrundstücke,
auf denen sich der Golfplatz befindet langfristig
vermietet. Seit dieser Zeit wurde die Aktiengesellschaft
zu Investor und Verwalter und seit dem
Jahre 2004 zum Eigentümer des Geländes.
Während kurzer Zeit wurde der Golfplatz neu gestaltet.
Man baute einen neuen Clubraum, das
Bewässerungssystem, Abschlagstellen, Parkplätze,
man erneuerte sämtliche Grünflächen, Dränagen,

Golfresort Karlovy Vary
The company Golf Resort Karlovy Vary, Inc. came into
being in the year 1996 after the leading Karlovy
Vary firms had united. First the grounds on which
the golf course is located and which were owned by
town were leased for a long time. The joint-stock
company has been the investor and manager since
that time and in 2004 it became the owner of the
grounds. The golf course was renovated within
ashort time. A new clubhouse, irrigation system,
tees and a car park were built and all lawns, drainages,
water reservoirs and mechanical equipment
were renovated. The golf course in Karlovy Vary,
which is located in picturesque scenery, has joined
the most renowned golf courses in Europe.

TOURFILM SLAVÍ 40 LET
Letošní jubilejní čtyřicátý ročník mezinárodního
filmového festivalu turistických
filmů TOURFILM tradičně proběhne
v Grand hotelu PUPP 3. a 4. října.
TOURFILM pořádá CzechTourism a je
nejstarším festivalem turistických filmů
na světě a účastní se ho 139 zemí a soutěží
okolo 800 titulů s tematikou televizních
cestovatelských filmů, dále představí
filmy zemí, krajů, regionů, měst i oblast
komerční turistiky. Součástí soutěže jsou
webové stránky a prezentační CD-romy.
Kulisa Grandhotelu PUPP je pro celý festival
neopakovatelná. Festival je situován
do Slavnostního sálu, kde probíhají jednotlivé
projekce členěné podle kontinentů
a extra retrospektiva, která představí
úspěšné filmy z historie festivalu. Právě
zde divák bude moci vidět, jak se turistické
filmy vyvíjely, jaké trendy v určité
době byly moderní a co snese i dnešní
měřítka.
Festival však nejsou jenom projekce, ale
také bohatý doprovodný program. Každoročně
má TOURFILM hvězdu festivalu.
Připomeňme spisovatele a badatele ERI-
CHA VON DÄNIKENA, také ženu, která
žije s opicemi a zkoumá jejich život JANE
GOODALL, dále nejslavnějšího horolezce
na světě REINHOLDA MESSNERA,
a v neposlední řadě MARKA INGLISE,
muže, který jako první vylezl na Mt. Everest
bez nohou.
Letošní hvězdou TOURFILMu bude hvězda
BBC MICHAEL PALIN. Nejslavnější
moderátor a autor televizních cestopisů
na světě, který tvoří exkluzivně pro
BBC. Jeho seriály se těší mimořádného
mezinárodního úspěchu a byly prodány
do 80 zemí z celého světa. Britská královna
Alžběta II. mu propůjčila řád CBE
(velitel řádu britského impéria). K jeho
filmům vychází vždy bohatě ilustrovaná
kniha a webové stránky, které umožňují
milionům diváků nejenom sledovat
Palinovy výpravy, ale díky exkluzivním
informacím osobně jít v jeho stopách.
Mezi nejslavnější seriály patří „Himalaya“,
„Sahara“, „Cesta kolem světa za 80 dnů“,
„Hemingway adventure“, „Great railway
journeys“. Jeho vystoupení vždy působí
jako velká show a je to velký divácký
zážitek. Michael Palin vystoupí 3. 10.
v 10:30 hodin ve Slavnostním sále Grandhotelu
PUPP.
Bohatý doprovodný program je orámovaný
o exotické fotografické výstavy. Podmořský
svět žraloků, to je svět fotografa
Richarda Jaroňka, mediálně nejznámější
fotograf a cestovatel Jiří Kolbaba představí
fotografie z exotických míst svého putování
po celém světě. Lovec bez zbraní
Petr Slavík vystavuje unikátní fotografie
africké zvěře, Malajsie slaví letos 50 let
své samostatné existence, moderní architektura
dokresluje veliký rozmach této
země.
Festival má bohatý odborný program,
prezentace zemí (Tahiti, Švýcarsko, Slovinsko),
nechybí ani sportovní vyžití
– Golfový turnaj TOURFILM proběhne na
GOLF RESORT KARLOVY VARY, tradiční
tenisový turnaj v GEJZÍR PARKU. Oba
turnaje budou 4. 10.
Festival má také celou řadu společenských
akcí. Vyjímáme dva hlavní večery,
které se uskuteční ve Slavnostním sále
Grandhotelu PUPP. Slovinský večer na počest
loňských vítězů představí slovinskou
gastronomii a závěrečný GALA VEČER
s předáváním cen vítězům TOURFILMu
prodlouží večer hostitelského města Karlových
Varů.

kvalitní alkoholický
nápoj jako jeden
z nejprodávanějších hořkých bylinných likérů
v České republice. Co pijeme je věcí vkusu, módy i tradice.
Císařský dvůr udával tón kdysi, přední barmani
dnes. A jaká tedy vlastně je 200 let trvající existence
Becherovky? Slavný bylinný likér byl vytvořen v roce
1807 rodinou Becherů v Karlových Varech. Původně se
prodával jako žaludeční kapky na zažívání v malých
skleněných lahvičkách. Vzhledem k jejich lahodné chuti
ale řada pacientů porušovala předepsané dávkování
a postupně vytvářela tradici Becherovky jako aperitivu.
Rostoucí obliba a poptávka po Becherovce si vynucovala
stále větší balení a Becherovka začala pronikat do
gastronomie i domácností. Dnes lze Becherovku koupit
v celé řadě velikostí - od maličké sběratelské 5cl lahvičky,
přes „placatku“ s kalíškem, až po úctyhodnou
„třílitrovku“ z exkluzivní „modré“ řady Becherovka
Collection, obzvláště vhodné jako dárek.
V19. století byla Becherovka populární u vídeňského
dvora, stejně jako mezi obyčejnými lidmi. Nejinak je tomu
i dnes, o 200 let později. V současnosti si Becherovku
její příznivci nejraději vychutnávají ledově vychlazenou
- jako aperitiv, digestiv, ale díky rostoucí oblibě míchaných
drinků také ve více než dvaceti různých koktejlech.
Becherovka lidi spojuje a přispívá k dobré pohodě.

Unglaubliche 200 Jahre feiert heute die weltberühmte
Marke Becherovka und wird somit zu einer der ältesten
böhmischen Marken überhaupt. Ins dritte Jahrhundert
seiner Existenz tritt dieses hundertprozentig natürliche,
traditionelle und qualitätsvolle Alkoholgetränk als
eines der meistverkauften bitteren Kräuterliköre in der
Tschechischen Republik. Was man trink ist eine Frage
des Geschmacks, der Mode und der Tradition. Der kaiserliche
Hof gab den Ton früher an, heute die besten
Barkeeper. Und wie sind eigentlich die 200 Jahre der
Geschichte von Becherovka? Der berühmte Kräuterlikör
wurde im Jahre 1807 von der Familie Becher
in Karlsbad erfunden. Ursprünglich servierte man ihn
als Magentropfen für die Verdauung in kleinen
Glasfläschchen. Wegen seines köstlichen Geschmacks
hielt eine Reihe von Patienten die vorgeschriebene
Dosis nicht ein und bildete nach und nach die Tradition
von Becherovka als Aperitif. Steigende Beliebtheit und
Nachfrage nach Becherovka verlangte stets größere
Verpackung und Becherovka kam in die Gastronomie
und die Haushalte. Heute kann man Becherovka in
einer ganzen Reihe von Größen kaufen - von kleinem
Sammlerfläschchen 5cl, über „Flachmann“ mit
Becher, bis zu ehrwürdigem „Dreiliter“ aus der exklusiven
„blauen“ Reihe Becherovka Collection, besonders
als Geschenk geeignet.
Im 19. Jahrhundert war Becherovka populär am Wiener
Hof, gleich wie unter den Menschen. Nicht anders ist es
heute, 200 Jahre später. Heutzutage kosten ihre Fans

OF BECHEROVKA LIQUEUR
The brand Becherovka, today world-famous, is celebrating
its incredible 200th birthday which will make
it one of the oldest Czech brands. This purely natural,
traditional and high-quality alcoholic drink is entering
the third century of its life as one of the best sold sorts
of bitters in the Czech Republic. It is a matter of tastes,
fashion and tradition, too, what we like drinking. The
emperor’s court set the tone once, foremost barmen
do it today. And actually - what is the 200-year-long
tradition of the liqueur Becherovka like? The famous
bitters was invented by the Becher family in Karlovy
Vary in 1807. It was originally sold as stomach drops in
small bottles. It should have improved digestion.
However, it was very delicious and that was why numerous
patients did not keep the prescribed dosage and
started creating the tradition of Becherovka as an aperitif.
Its growing popularity and demand for it called
for bigger and bigger bottles and Becherovka started
getting into gastronomy and households. Today you
can buy Becherovka in a number of sizes - from a tiny
five-centilitre- bottle for collectors or a flat bottle with
a small cup up to an imposing three-litre-bottle from
the exclusive “blue“ line Becherovka Collection which
is particularly suitable as a present.
In the 19th century Becherovka was popular with the
court in Vienna and with common people as well.
Today, 200 years later, it is not any different. At present
the fans of Becherovka prefer it icy cooled - as an aperitif,
a digestive drink and also in more than twenty different
cocktails. Becherovka connects people and contributes
to the sense of wellbeing. 200 years, a huge
number of occasions and one evergreen. Though it
does not seem so, Becherovka has been part of family
and social events for incredible two centuries.

1701 je rok „početí“ Grandhotelu Pupp. Od tohoto
roku se datuje existence staveb, které se
v průběhu věků rozrůstaly, přeskupovaly a měnily
majitele tak dlouho, až jim konečně na počátku
20. století vtiskla dynastie Puppů nesmazatelnou
podobu, která přetrvala dodnes.

Vohybu řeky Teplé bývaly romantické louky -
místa, která návštěvníky lázní magicky přitahovala
již v 17. století. Pořádali zde slavnosti v přírodě.
R. 1695 zde dokonce nechal saský kurfiřt a polský
král August Silný II. postavit z větví přístřešky,
v nichž se odehrával banket. Inspiroval tak majitele
pozemku, starostu Deimla, aby na své loučce
pod skalami vystavěl r. 1701 první karlovarský
lusthaus, módně nazvaný Salle de l’Assemblée.
Spoluinvestorem se stal právě zábavymilovný saský
kurfiřt. Podle něj a také podle toho, že si na sezónu
přivážel číšníky ze Saska, se brzy vžil název
Saský sál. Stal se základem a dnes již skrytým srdcem
slavného Grandhotelu Pupp.

In der Biegung des Tepl Flusses waren früher romantische
Wiesen, die die Besucher des Kurorts
schon im 17. Jahrhundert magisch anzogen. Sie
veranstalteten hier Feiern im Freien. Im Jahre
1695 ließ hier sogar der sächsische Kurfürst und
polnische König August der Starke II.
Schutzdächer aus Zweigen bauen, wo Bankette
stattfanden. Das inspirierte den Besitzer des
Grundstücks, den damaligen Bürgermeister
Deiml, der auf seiner Wiese unter den Felsen das
erste Karlsbader Lusthaus im Jahre 1701 erbauen
ließ, modisch Salle de l’ Assemblée gennant. Der
Mitinvestor war der die Unterhaltung liebende
sächsischer Kurfürst. Nach ihm und auch danach,
dass er mit sich in der Saison Kellner aus Sachsen
brachte, bürgerte sich bald der Name Sächsischer
Saal ein. Er wurde zum Kern und dem heute noch
versteckten Herzen des berühmten Grandhotels
Pupp.

There used to be romantic meadows in the bend
of the Teplá River - places which attracted visitors
to the spa town magically as far as the 17th century.
They gave open--air parties here. In 1695 the
Saxon elector and Polish King August the Strong
II even had shelters from branches built here where
banquets were held. In this way he inspired the
owner of the piece of land, the mayor of the town
Deiml, to have the first Karlovy Vary “lusthaus”
built on his meadow below the rocks in 1701.
According to the fashion of that time, he called it
Salle de l’ Assemblée. The fun-loving Saxon elector
was his co-investor. After him and after the
waiters he brought with him from Saxony each season,
the building started being called the Saxon
Hall. It was the basis and the very heart of the famous
Grandhotel Pupp, today hidden.

Andreas Becher, další karlovarský starosta, na přilehlém
pozemku k Saskému sálu postavil r. 1728
další lusthaus. Obsluhovali zde číšníci z Prahy,
proto se mu říkalo Český sál. Becher postupně objekt
odprodal v letech 1775-1785 Johannu
Georgu Puppovi. Ten Český sál přestavěl a před
budovou nechal vysadit dvanáct řad lip. Český sál
zdědil Puppův starší syn Josef, který ovšem záhy
zemřel. Mladší syn Johann marně o majetek usiloval,
podle závěti však přešel na Josefovu manželku
Barboru Urbanovou. Ale vdova r. 1827 objekt
prodala třem různým vlastníkům. Zpátky pro
svůj rod jej získal až v r. 1870 Heinrich Pupp, syn
Johanna a vnuk zakladatele puppovské dynastie.

Kellner aus Prag, darum
nannte man ihn den Böhmischen
Saal. Becher verkaufte
ihn allmählich in den Jahren
1775-1785 an Johann Georg
Pupp. Der ließ den Böhmischen
Saal umbauen und vor
dem Gebäude zwölf Reihen
von Linden setzen. Den Böhmischen
Saal erbte der ältere
Sohn von Pupp Josef, der leider
bald starb. Der jüngere
Sohn Johann bemühte sich
vergeblich, den Besitz zu gewinnen.
Dem Testament nach gehörte er Josefs
Ehefrau Barbora Urban. Aber im Jahre 1827 verkaufte
die Witwe den Komplex drei verschiedenen
Leuten. Zurück für seine Familie gewann ihn
erst im Jahre 1870 Heinrich Pupp, Johanns Sohn
und der Enkel des Gründers der Dynastie Pupp.

From the Pupps to the Pupps
Andreas Becher, another mayor of Karlovy Vary,
had another lusthaus built on a piece of land adjacent
to the Saxon Hall in 1728. Visitors were
served by waiters from Prague here and that was
why it was called the Bohemian Hall. Becher
sold it gradually to Johann Georg Pupp between
1775 and 1785. He had the Bohemian Hall rebuilt
and had twelve rows of linden trees planted
in front of the building. The Bohemian Hall was
inherited by Pupp’s elder son Josef who soon
died. The younger son Johann struggled for the
property in vain - it passed over to Josef’s wife
Barbora Urban according to the last will. The widow,
however, sold the building to three different
people in 1827. It was Heinrich Pupp,
Johann’s son and the grandson of the founder of
the Pupp dynasty that won it back for his family
in 1870.

Dům U Melounu
Cukrář Johann Georg Pupp (původním příjmením
Pop) z Veltrus přijel poprvé do Karlových Varů
r. 1759 ve službách hraběte Chotka. R. 1760
se zde usadil natrvalo a pracoval jako cukrář
vMitterbachově kavárně. V r. 1775 se oženil
s majitelovou dcerou Franciskou. Autentickým
svědkem prvopočátků pobytu prvního Puppa
vKarlových Varech je dům U Melounu, tehdy
zvaný Svatý Tadeáš, kde bývala ona vyhlášená kavárna
a cukrárna.

Der Zuckerbäcker Johann Georg Pupp (sein ursprünglicher
Zuname war Pop) aus Weltruss kam
zum ersten Mal nach Karlsbad im Jahre 1759 in die
Dienste des Grafen Chotek. Im Jahre 1760 ließ er
sich hier auf die Dauer nieder und arbeitete als
Zuckerbäcker im Mitterbachs Café. Im Jahre 1775
heiratete er die Tochter des Besitzers Franzisca. Der
authentische Zeuge der Anfänge des Aufenthalts des
ersten Pupps in Karlsbad ist das Haus Zur Melone,
damals Hl. Tadeas genannt, wo sich das bekannte
Café und die Konditorei befanden.

The Melon House
The confectioner Johann Georg Pupp (his original
surname was Pop) from Veltrusy arrived in Karlovy
Vary for the first time in 1759 when he was in Count
Chotek’s service. In 1760 he settled here for good
and worked as a confectioner in Mitterbach’s café.
In 1775 he married the owner’s daughter Franzisca.
The Melon House, which was called St. Tadeas in
that time, was an authentic witness of the beginning
of the stay of the first member of the Pupp dynasty
in Karlovy Vary. There were a renowned café and
a confectionery in the house.

Boží oko | Gottes Auge | The God’s Eye oko. Právě Boží oko bylo po
staletí trnem v oku celých generací
Puppů. Stál na atraktivním místě a bránil jejich
dalším plánům. „Překážející“ Boží oko se podařilo
zakoupit v dražbě až v r. 1936, vlastně
v předvečer druhé světové války. Naštěstí jej ještě
stihli architektonicky začlenit do hotelového komplexu.

Gottes Auge – der Dorn im Auge
Die Nachkommen des Bürgermeisters Deimel bauten
um das Jahr 1730 auf ihrem Grundstück vor
dem Sächsischen Saal noch ein Haus und nannten
es Gottes Auge. Und gerade das Gottes Auge war
der Dorn im Auge für einige Generationen der
Pupps. Es stand an einer attraktiven Stelle und
komplizierte ihre weiteren Pläne. Erst im Jahre
1936, eigentlich am Vorabend des zweiten
Weltkriegs gelang es ihren „das“ im Wege stehende
Gottes Auge, bei einer Versteigerung zu kaufen.
Zum Glück gelang es ihnen noch, es in den
Hotelkomplex einzugliedern.

The God’s Eye - a Thorn in the Side
Mayor Deiml’s descendants in about 1730 had another
house built on their piece of land in front of
the Saxon Hall. They called it the God’s Eye. And
it was the God’s Eye that was the thorn in the side
of several generations of the Pupps. Its location
was very attractive and it complicated their further
plans. But it was only in 1936, on the eve of World
War II, that they managed to win the “problematic”
God’s Eye at auction. Fortunately, they had enough
time to make it a part of the hotel complex.

V r. 1862 se v Karlových Varech konal přírodovědecký
a lékařský kongres. Heinrich Pupp nabídl
městu, aby na jeho pozemku za Českým sálem postavilo
pro kongres dřevěný pavilon. Brzy nato jej
získal pro sebe, protože co s ním po kongresu?
Upravil jej na koncertní a kavárenský sál, slavný
Cafésalon. R. 1873 byl na jeho místě postaven nový
Cafésalon Pupp s verandami. Objekt dosloužil
vr. 1905, neboť právě zde byla zahájena výstavba
Slavnostního sálu.

Im Jahre 1862 fand in Karlsbad ein naturwissenschaftlicher
und medizinischer Kongreß statt.
Heinrich Pupp bat der Stadt an, dass sie auf seinem
Grundstück hinter dem Böhmischen Saal einen
hölzernen Pavillon für den Kongreß erbauen
konnte. Heinrich Pupp hat kurz danach den
Pavillon gewonnen, denn - was mit ihm nach dem
Kongreß? Er baute ihn zu einem Konzert- und
Cafésaal – den berühmten Cafésalon - um. Im Jahre
1873 wurde an seiner Stelle ein neuer Cafésalon
Pupp mit Veranden gebaut. Das Gebäude diente im
Jahre 1905 aus, denn gerade hier wurde der Bau
des Festsaals eröffnet.

Another Stage of Development
In 1862 a congress of natural scientists and doctors
was held in Karlovy Vary. Heinrich Pupp offered
the town to build a wooden pavilion for the congress
on his piece of land behind the Bohemian
Hall. Heinrich Pupp bought the pavilion - what
would it have been good for after the congress? He
converted it to a concert and café hall, the famous
Cafésalon. In 1873 a new Cafésalon Pupp with verandas
was built in its place. The building ceased to
exist in 1905 because it was right here that the construction
of the Festive Hall started.

Vezměte si s sebou
Dnešní podoba Grandhotelu Pupp je z velké části
výsledkem smělé přestavby na přelomu 20. století.
Postavíme-li se zády k řece na náměstíčko
před hotelem, máme po pravé ruce Zlatou harfu:
dodnes tam na harfu hraje andělíček v rohovém
výklenku pod střechou. Fronta Grandhotelu přímo
proti nám, ta se zdobnými balkony, stojí
v místech dřívějšího Saského sálu. Ten byl o dvě
patra nižší a také kratší.
V levém rohu náměstíčka, kde je dnes kavárna
Pupp, stával dům Boží oko. Jdeme-li podél Teplé
až k parkovišti a postavíme-li se zády k řece, vidíme
vpravo mohutnou secesní hotelovou budovu.
V jejím přízemí je Grandrestaurant, Zrcadlový sál,
kavárna a bar Rendez-vous s kulečníkovou hernou.
Koncem 19. století stál právě na tomto místě
Český sál.
Přímo před námi je pseudobarokní budova Slavnostního
sálu. Předtím zde stál patrový Cafésalon.
Všimneme si bohatého štukování a soch na fasádě.
Můžeme také najít portréty čtvrté generace
Puppů - Antona, Juliuse a Heinricha. Vlevo od budovy
Slavnostního sálu vidíme jihovýchodní křídlo
hotelového komplexu - Parkhotel Pupp.
Ateď již jistě toužíme po nějakém občerstvení - třeba
v Café Pupp, nebo v baru Rendez-vous. Ani
vMalé dvoraně se špatně nesedí, co říkáte?

Das heutige Aussehen des Grandhotels Pupp ist
zum großen Teil das Ergebnis eines kühnen
Umbaus Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts. Wenn Sie auf
einem kleinen Platz vor dem Hotel mit dem Fluss
hinter Ihrem Rücken stehen, haben Sie zu Ihrer
rechten Seite die Goldene Harfe: noch heute spielt
dort die Harfe ein Engelchen in einer
Ecknische unter dem Dach. Die Vorderfront des
Grandhotels mit dekorativen Balkons befindet
sich direkt uns gegenüber. Sie steht an der Stelle
des ehemaligen Sächsischen Saals. Der war zwei
Stockwerke niedriger und auch kürzer.
In der linken Ecke des kleinen Platzes, wo sich
heute das Café Pupp befindet, stand einst das
Haus Gottes Auge. Wenn Sie den Tepl Fluss entlang
bis zum Parkplatz gehen und sich mit dem
Rücken zu dem Fluss stellen, sehen Sie rechts die
große Jugendstilhotelfront. In dem Erdgeschoss
befinden sich das Grandrestaurant, der Spiegelsaal,
das Café, die Bar Rendez-vous mit dem
Billardzimmer. Vor der Renovierung des Hotels
am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts stand gerade hier
der Böhmische Saal.
Direkt vor Ihnen ist das Pseudobarockgebäude
des Festsaals. Vorher stand hier der einstöckige
Cafésalon. Widmen Sie Ihre Aufmerksamkeit dem
reichen Stuckwerk und den Statuen auf der
Fassade. Sie können hier auch Porträte der vierten
Generation der Pupps finden - Anton, Julius
und Heinrich. Links von dem Gebäude des
Festsaals sehen Sie den südöstlichen Flügel des
Hotelkomplexes - das Parkhotel Pupp.
Jetzt sehnen Sie sich sicher nach Erfrischung - vielleicht
im Café Pupp oder in der Bar Rendez-vous.
Aber auch die Kleine Halle (Malá dvorana) ist ein
angenehmer Platz zum Ausruhen, nicht wahr?

The present appearance of the Grandhotel Pupp
is from a greater part the result of its bold renovation
at the end of the 19th century. If you stand
on a small square in front of the hotel and turn
your back to the river, the Golden Harp House is
on your right: a small angel in the corner niche
under the roof has been playing the harp up to
these days. The facade of the Grandhotel, the one
with ornamental balconies, stands where the former
Saxon Hall used to stand in the past. It was
two floors lower and shorter, too.
The God’s Eye House used to stand in the left corner
of the small square where today the Café
Pupp can be seen. If you go along the Teplá River
as far as the car park and turn your back to the river,
you can see the big Art Nouveau hotel facade
on the right. There are the Grandrestaurant,
Mirror Hall and the Rendez-vous bar with a billiards
room on its ground floor. The Bohemian
Hall stood right here before the renovation at the
end of the 19th century.
The pseudo Baroque building of the Festive Hall
is right in front of you. In earlier times the two-storey
Cafésalon stood here. Pay attention to rich stuccowork
and the statues on the facade. You can
also find portraits of the fourth generation of the
Pupps - Anton, Julius and Heinrich. The southwestern
wing of the hotel complex - the Parkhotel
Pupp - can be seen to the left of the building of
the Festive Hall.
Now you must be longing for some refreshment -
maybe in the Café Pupp or in the bar Rendezvous.
And the Small Hall (Malá dvorana) is very
pleasant, too,isn’t it?

návštěv
panovníků. Na
léčení zde byli
řecký král Otto I.
a pruský král
Vilém společně
se svým předsedou
vlády Otto von Bismarckem. 22. června přijel také
císař František Josef I. se svým ministrem zahraničí
hrabětem Rechbergem. Třídenní diplomatická jednání
probíhala i v Cafésalonu Pupp, jehož majitelem byl v té
době Heinrich Pupp ze třetí generace slavného rodu.
Znovu přijel císař František Josef I. do Karlových Varů
oplných 40 let později, tentokrát na jednodenní oficiální
návštěvu. Ve středu 17. srpna dorazil z Mariánských
Lázní na karlovarské dolní nádraží císařský dvorní vlak
se vzácným pasažérem. Po hymně, starostově přivítání
a po přehlídce ostrostřelců následovala velkolepá jízda
slavnostně vyzdobenými ulicemi, lemovanými špalíry
tisíců obyvatel i návštěvníků. Kočár s císařem postupně
zastavoval u Mlýnského pramene, u Vřídla a u kostela
sv. Máří Magdalény. Panovník navštívil také Císařské
lázně a poobědval ve slavnostním sále Grandhotelu
Pupp. Císař se sice v hotelu nezdržel přes noc, ale příjemná
a uklidňující atmosféra na něj zapůsobila tak, že
nejdříve usnul ve stoje ve foyer, poté u stolu a nakonec
si zdříml v císařském apartmá. Karel Pupp (pátá generace
Puppů) si tehdy mnul ruce - není mnoho míst na
světě, kde císař spal hned třikrát po sobě.
Na zpáteční cestě k dolnímu nádraží se krom ovací
dostalo císaři i políčku v podobě skandované protihabsburské
velmi humorné říkanky, které se chtě nechtě
musel smát i jeho doprovod. Tak byla legrační. Posuďte
sami: V Schönbrunnu, v Schönbrunnu mířil císař na
srnu, minul se však cíle, zapomněl si brýle.

Franz Joseph I. - Österreichischer Kaiser,
böhmischer und ungarischer König
Im Juni 1864 besuchten Karlsbad einige Herrscher. Zur
Kur waren hier der griechische König Otto I. und der
preußische König Wilhelm gemeinsam mit seinem
Kanzler Otto von Bismarck. Am 22. Juni kam auch
Kaiser Franz Joseph I. mit seinem Außenminister Graf
Rechberg. Dreitägige diplomatische Besprechungen
fanden auch im Cafésalon Pupp statt, dessen Eigentümer
damals Heinrich Pupp aus der dritten Generation der berühmten
Familie war. Kaiser Franz Joseph I. kam ganze
40 Jahre später wieder nach Karlsbad, diesmal zu einem
eintägigen offiziellen Besuch. Am Mittwoch den
17. August kam aus Marienbad auf den Karlsbader
unteren Bahnhof der kaiserliche Hofzug mit einem
geehrten Fahrgast. Nach der Hymne, der Begrüßung
vom Bürgermeister und nach einer Scharfschützenparade
folgte eine großartige Fahrt durch die feierlich
geschmückten Straßen, umgeben von tausenden
Bewohnern, sowie Besuchern. Die Kutsche mit dem
Kaiser hielt nach und nach an der Mühlbrunnquelle, am
Sprudel und an der Maria Magdalena Kirche an. Der
Monarch besuchte auch das Kaiserbad und aß im
Festsaal von Grandhotel Pupp zu Mittag. Der Kaiser hielt
sich zwar im Hotel nicht über die Nacht auf, aber die angenehme
und beruhigende Atmosphäre
beeinflusste ihn so, dass
er zuerst im Stehen im Foyer einschlief,
dann am Tisch und zum
Schluss machte er ein Nickerchen
im Kaiserlichen Appartement. Karl
Pupp (die fünfte Pupp Generation)
rieb sich damals die Hände
– es gibt nicht sehr viele Orte auf
der Welt, wo der Kaiser gleich
dreimal hintereinander schlief.
Auf dem Rückweg zum Unteren
Bahnhof bekam der Kaiser außer
Beifall auch eine Watsche in Form
eines gegen die Habsburger gerichteten,
sehr witzigen Reimes, über
den sogar seine Begleitung lachen
musste. So lustig war er. Beurteilen
Sie selbst: Im Schönbrunn,
im Schönbrunn zielte der Kaiser
auf’s Huhn, er verfehlte das Ziel,
er hatte keine Brill’.

and the Czech and Hungarian King
The June of 1864 in Karlovy Vary was filled with visits
of rulers. The Greek king Otto I and the Prussian king
Wilhelm together with his Prime Minister Otto von
Bismarck took a cure here. On the 22nd June Emperor
František Josef I and his minister of foreign affairs
Rechberg came too. Three-day-long diplomatic negotiations
were held in the Cafésalon Pupp whose owner was
Heinrich Pupp of the third generation of the famous
family. Emperor František Josef I came to Karlovy Vary
again forty years later, this time for an official one-day
visit. On Wednesday the 17th August a special emperor’s
train with the distinguished visitor arrived at the
Karlovy Vary lower railway station from Mariánské
Lázně. After the anthem, mayor’s reception and town
guardsmen’s show a ride in a coach through decorated
streets lined with crowds of thousands of both inhabitants
and visitors followed. The coach with the emperor made
stops at the Mill Spring, the Sprudel and the St. Mary
Magdalena Church. The ruler also visited the Emperor’s
Spa Building and had dinner in the Festive Hall
of the Grand Hotel Pupp. The emperor did not stay in the
hotel overnight, however, the pleasant and soothing
atmosphere made him fall asleep standing in the foyer
first, then he got to sleep at the table and finally he had
a nap in the emperor’s suite. Karel Pupp (the fifth generation
of the Pupps) rubbed his hands with satisfaction -
there had not been many places in the world where the
emperor had slept three times in succession.
Apart from ovations on his back way to the lower railway
station, the emperor was given a slap in the face in form
of a rhythmical and witty anti-Hapsburg nursery rhyme -
even the emperor’s company could not but laugh on hearing
it. So funny was it. You can judge it yourself: In Schönbrunn,
in Schönbrunn the emperor aimed at a roe, yet
he missed the target, he had forgotten his glasses.

KLÁŠTER TEPLÁ
Klášter, založený roku 1193 blahoslaveným Hroznatou,
českým šlechticem, umožnil už od počátku
své existence osídlení původně velmi řídce obydlené
oblasti a byl pak po staletí duchovním, kulturním
a hospodářským centrem oblasti. Z kláštera se
odjakživa šířila vzdělanost a pokrok, byl i v těžkých
dobách oporou pro poddané. Premonstráti zakládali
školy a špitály, chudí vždy dostali obilí z klášterních
sýpek. Také založení nedalekých Mariánských
Lázní je dílem kláštera. 800 let nepřetržitého
působení přerušilo v roce 1950 vyvlastnění komunisty
a až v roce 1990 byl zcela zdevastovaný klášter
vrácen řádu premonstrátů. Od té doby stále
probíhá postupná rekonstrukce, celý areál je však
již přístupný návštěvníkům. Probíhají zde pravidelné
bohoslužby, konají se výstavy, koncerty a další
kulturní akce. Nejstarší dodnes dochovanou stavbou
je románsko-gotický trojlodní kostel Zvěstování
Páně z13. století, jehož vysvěcení se v roce
1232 zúčastnil i český král Václav I. Na konci
17. století postavil Kryštof Dientzenhofer barokní
prelaturu a konvent. Dochovala se rovněž klášterní
knihovna se 100 tisíci svazky, barokní sýpka, sousoší
Kalvárie ařada dalších skvostů, mezi něž patří
jistě i klášterní park. Výlet do těchto míst slibuje
vkteroukoliv roční dobu nezapomenutelný zážitek.

Das Kloster wurde im Jahre 1193 vom seligen
Hroznata gegründet, einem böhmischen Adeligen.
Es ermöglichte bereits vom Anfang seines
Bestehens die Besiedlung ursprünglich sehr dünn
bewohnter Gegend und war dann jahrhunderte
lang ein geistiges, kulturelles und ein wirtschaftliches
Zentrum der Region. Vom Kloster aus verbreitete
sich seit je Bildung und Vorschritt, es war
auch in schweren Zeiten Rückhalt für die
Untertanen. Prämonstratenser gründeten Schulen
und Spitals, die Armen bekamen immer Getreide
aus den Klostergetreidekammern. Auch die
Gründung von unweitem Marienbad ist ein Werk
des Klosters. 800 Jahre ununterbrochener
Wirkung beendete im Jahre 1950 die Enteignung
von den Kommunisten. Bis im Jahre 1990 wurde
das völlig zerstörte Kloster dem Prämonstratenserorden
zurückgegeben. Seit dieser Zeit wird es
nach und nach wiederhergestellt, das ganze Areal
ist aber bereits für die Besucher zugänglich. Hier
finden regelmäßig Messen, Ausstellungen, Konzerte
und weitere Kulturveranstaltungen statt. Das
älteste bis heute erhaltene Gebäude ist die romanisch-gotische
Dreischiff Kirche der Verkündung
des Herrn aus dem 13. Jahrhundert, an deren
Weihe im Jahre 1232 auch der böhmische König
Václav I. teilnahm. Am Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts
baute Christoph Dientzenhofer die barocke
Prälatur und den Konvent. Es blieb auch die
Klosterbibliothek mit hunderttausend Bänden, die
Barockgetreidekammer, die Kalvariengruppe und
weitere Schmuckstücke erhalten, zu denen auch
der Klosterpark gehört. Ausflug in diese Gegend
verspricht zu jeder Jahreszeit ein unvergessliches
Erlebnis.

Teplá Monastery

The monastery which was founded by beatified
Hroznata, a Czech nobleman, in 1193 brought
people into the area which had been populated
only thinly. It was a religious, cultural and economic
centre of the area for centuries. The monastery
spread education and progress from time immemorial
and was the mainstay of villeins in hard
times. Premonstratensians founded schools and
hospitals and the poor always got grain from the
granaries of the monastery. The foundation of nearby
Mariánské Lázně, too, is the work of the monastery.
The 800 years of continuous activities
were interrupted by the expropriation by the communists
in 1950. It was only in the year 1990 that
the derelict monastery was returned to the
Premonstratensian order. It has been renovated
since that time; however, the area has already
been open to the public. Masses are celebrated
here regularly and exhibitions, concerts ant other
cultural events are held here.
The oldest building which has been preserved up
to these days is the Roman-gothic church with
three naves which dates from the 13th century.
The Czech prince Wenceslas I, too, took part in
its consecration in 1232. In the late 17th century
Kryštof Dientzenhofer built a Baroque prelature
and a convent. The library of the monastery, too,
with 100 thousand volumes, a Baroque granary,
the Calvary sculptural group and a number of
other jewels including the park of the monastery
have been preserved. A trip into this place promises
an unforgettable experience at any season of
the year.

KARLOVARSKÉ PRAMENY | KARLSBADER QUELLEN | SPRINGS OF KARLOVY VARY
DOLNÍ ZÁMECKÝ PRAMEN - pramen č. 3
Nalézá se uvnitř Zámeckých lázní, původně
Zámecké kolonády, postavené v roce 1911 podle
plánů slavného vídeňského architekta Ohmanna.
Za pramenní vázou je pískovcový reliéf, znázorňující
„Ducha pramenů“. Pramen vyvěrá v samém
historickém centru lázní, na úpatí Zámecké
věže. První zprávy o něm jsou až z roku 1769, ale
vyskytoval se v těchto místech již dříve. Děti si na
jeho vývěru vyhloubily malou tůň a koupaly se
v jeho teplé vodě. Krávy, vracející se z pastvy na
okolních svazích, ji lačně pily. Až tehdy pramen
upoutal i pozornost lázeňských lékařů. V mrazivé
zimě roku 1784, kdy všechna pitná voda zamrzla,
byla voda Zámeckého pramene svedena do veřejné
kašny. Tenkrát provedl David Becher jeho první
chemickou analýzu a zjistil, že má stejné složení
jako voda Vřídla. Na naléhání cizích pacientů
byl Zámecký pramen poprvé řádně zachycen až
koncem 18. století. Bylo zjištěno, že jeho voda vystupuje
z pukliny v žule, zapadající šikmo pod domy
na Zámeckém vrchu. Ale při velkém průvalu
Vřídla v roce 1809 tento pramen opět zmizel a navzdory
veškerému úsilí trvalo čtrnáct let, než se
objevil znovu. Při novém jímání malých karlovarských
pramenů byly vyhloubeny u Zámeckého
pramene tři vrty. Jeden z nich zachytil již v hloubce
31 metr přítok termy s vydatností přes 200 litrů
za minutu. Je to nejvyšší vydatnost, která byla
umalých karlovarských pramenů vůbec zjištěna.
DER UNTERE SCHLOSSBRUNN
Quelle Nr. 3
Die Quelle befindet sich im Schlossbad, ursprünglich
Schlosskolonnade, gebaut im Jahre 1911
nach Plänen des berühmten Wiener Architekten
Ohmann. Hinter der Quellenvase befindet sich
ein Sandsteinrelief, der den „Geist der Quellen“
darstellt. Die Quelle quillt unmittelbar im historischen
Zentrum der Kurstadt, am Fuss des
Schlossturms. Die ersten Berichte über die Quelle
stammen aus dem Jahre 1769, aber sie kam hier
schon früher vor. Kinder hoben einen kleinen Teich
aus, wo die Quelle aus der Erde austrat, und badeten
in ihrem warmen Wasser. Das Vieh trank
das Wasser, als man es von der Weide trieb. Erst
damals begannen sich die Kurärzte für die Quelle
zu interessieren. Als im frostigen Winter des Jahres
1784 das Trinkwasser in der ganzen Stadt eingefroren
war, wurde das Wasser aus der Schlossbrunnquelle
in den öffentlichen Brunnen abgeleitet.
Damals führte David Becher die erste chemische
Analyse der Quelle durch und stellte fest,
dass sie dieselbe Zusammensetzung wie der
Sprudel hat. Ausländische Kurgäste drängten auf
Auffangen der Quelle, doch zum erstenmal wurde
sie erst am Ende des 18. Jhs. aufgefangen. Es wurde
festgestellt, dass das Mineralwasser aus einem
grossen Riss im Granit austritt, der in schräger
Richtung unter den Häusern auf dem Schlossberg
läuft. Die Quelle verschwand wieder im Jahre
1809 beim grossen Ausbruch des Sprudels und es
dauerte vierzehn lange Jahre, bis sie wieder erschien.
Als die kleinen Karlsbader Mineralquellen
neu aufgefangen wurden, brachte man auch drei
Bohrungen in der Nähe der Schlossbrunnquelle
nieder. Eine der drei Quellen stoss schon in der
Tiefe von 31 Metern auf einen Nebenfluss der
Mineralquelle auf, der sehr ergiebig war (200
l/min). Es ist die höchste Ergiebigkeit, die bei den
kleinen Karlsbader Quellen festgestellt wurde.

THE LOWER CASTLE SPRING
Spring No. 3
It is located inside the Castle Spa Building, originally
the Castle Colonnade, built in 1911 from the
plans of the famous architect Ohmann from
Vienna. There is a sandstone relief representing
the “Spirit of Springs“ behind the spring.
The Lower Castle Spring can be found in the very
centre of the spa district, at the foot of the
Castle Tower. The first records date back to 1769
but we known that the spring was here already before.
Children dug a hole and made a small pool
where the warm water poured out from the earth
and bathed in it. Cows drank it when they drove
them home from pasture. It was at that time that
the spring caught the attention of spa doctors.
When all the drinking water had frozen in the
cold winter of 1784, the water from the Castle
Spring was diverted to the public fountain. Doctor
David Becher made the first chemical analysis
of the spring at that time and he found out, that
it had the same composition as the Sprudel. But
it was only at the close of the 18th century when
the spring was held back, especially because
patients from abroad insisted on it. It was discovered
that the mineral water came out from a rift
in granite which was running aslant under the
houses standing on the Castle Hill. But during
the big burst of the Sprudel in l809 the spring
disappeared and it re-appeared after 14 long
years.
The colonnade was built here in 1911. When
the small Karlovy Vary springs were being held,
three wells were sunk in the neighbourhood
of the Castle Spring. One of them discovered
a big tributary of the spring at a depth of 31 metres.
It was very rich - 200 l/min. Of all the small
mineral springs in Karlovy Vary this was the
richest.

dob, kdy tu odpočívali Goethe, Paganini,
František Josef I. ...
Soutěž:
Rádi bychom nový prostor také nově pojmenovali.
K originálnímu názvu nám můžete pomoci i Vy,
kteří jej užíváte a navštěvujete jej.
Vaše návrhy na pojmenování hotelového lobby
nám můžete posílat do konce roku 2007.
V lednu 2008 soutěž vyhodnotíme. Kromě toho,
že vítěz zanechá v hotelu svou nesmazatelnou stopu,
bude navíc odměněn poukazem na velikonoční
pobyt v Grandhotelu Pupp pro 2 osoby.

nutzen. Für Ihren Komfort und Behaglichkeit rekonstruieren
wir die Lobby und Malá dvorana, zu
kleinen Änderungen kommt es auch im Grandrestaurant
und im Spiegelsaal. Die neue Auffassung
der Lobby spiegelt die mehr als dreihundertjährige
Geschichte, durch die das Grandhotel
Pupp seit dem Jahre 1701 wandelte wieder.
Stuck, Bilder, Lichter – das alles soll die Atmosphäre
der Zeit, als hier Goethe, Paganini, Franz
Josef I. ... verweilten, unterstützen.

Vorschläge für die Bezeichnung der Hotellobby können

Im Januar 2008 werten wir den Wettbewerb aus.
Zusätzlich dazu, dass der Gewinner im Hotel seine
unvergessliche Spur hinterlässt, wird er außerdem
mit einem Gutschein für einen Osteraufenthalt
im Grandhotel Pupp für 2 Personen belohnt.
Since April 2007 our guests are able to use newly
renovated rooms of the Grandhotel Pupp. We
are renovating the lobby and the Malá dvorana
Hall for your comfort and convenience, small
changes will be carried out in the Grandrestaurant
and the Mirror Hall too. The new conception of
the lobby reflects the three hundred-year-long history
of the Grandhotel Pupp since the year 1701.
Stucco, pictures and lights – this all should intensify
the atmosphere of the times when Goethe,
Paganini and František Josef I rested here...
