Balance Rehabilitation
Translating Research into Evidence-based Practice
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The overall goal of this course is to discuss
new concepts in the assessment and treatment
of balance impairments leading to loss
of functional independence and falls in both
neurologic and geriatric populations. The
course will review research related to the
physiologic basis for normal and impaired
balance, and consider the application of this
research in the assessment and treatment of
balance disorders. The course includes
lecture and several assessment labs where
participants can explore tests related to the
measurement of balance and mobility
function. Video case studies and small
group discussions will focus on the development
of evidence based treatment strategies
to improve balance and prevent falls.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the completion of this course participants
will be able to:
°
Discuss the control of balance within a
dynamic systems model, and within the
International Classification of Function,
Health and Disability
°
Describe sensory, motor and cognitive
contributions to normal and impaired
balance in older adults and those with
neurologic pathology
°
Discuss the rationale for selecting tests
used to measure balance
°
Learn to administer at least two measures
of balance, and discuss their psychometric
properties
°
Develop an appropriate progression
of exercises for persons with impaired
balance
°
Based on a review of the research
evidence, discuss current best practices
related to balance training in both
geriatric and neurologic populations
BASISKURS
Beckenboden
ZIEL
Am Ende des zweitägigen Kurses wissen
die TeilnehmerInnen:
°
Warum Wissen über den Beckenboden
auch bei orthopädischen und neurologischen
PatientInnen wichtig ist
°
Wie ein hypertoner Beckenboden
von einem schwachen Beckenboden
unterschieden wird
°
Wie die Wahrnehmung des Beckenbodens
verbessert werden kann
°
Welche Arten von Inkontinenz vorkommen
°
Wie die anatomischen und
physiologischen Zusammenhänge am
Beckenboden sind
°
Fragen bei einem Befund in Zusammenhang
mit dem Beckenbodenproblem
zu bringen
°
Übungen des Beckenbodens mit Atmung
und Bauchmuskeln zu koordinieren
INHALT
PhysiotherapeutInnen bekommen eine
Übersicht über die verschiedenen Arten der
Inkontinenz und die möglichen Ursachen
einschließlich orthopädischer und neurologischer
Krankheitsbilder. Information über
Anatomie des Beckenbodens und neurophysiologische
Grundlagen bei Inkontinenz
wird verständlich dargestellt. Ebenso wird
erklärt, wie der hypertone Beckenboden
erkannt werden kann, welche Ursachen zum
hypertonen Beckenboden führen und welche
Behandlungsmöglichkeiten es gibt. Befundbögen
und Behandlungsmöglichkeiten von
Beckenbodenbeschwerden helfen TherapeutInnen
ein Grundwissen zu bekommen.
