HOTEL
Nicht nur wegen seiner herausragenden Lage ist das
Kempinski Hotel Moika 22 unsere Hotel-Empfehlung für
St. Petersburg. Befindet es sich doch gerade mal einige
wenige Schritte entfernt vom Eingang zur Eremitage. Und zum
Newski-Prospekt ist es ebenfalls nicht weit. Auch sonst hat
das Haus so ziemlich alles zu bieten, was der anspruchsvolle
Gast sich wünscht. Der Name Kempinski verpflichtet halt.
Untergebracht ist es in einem Palais, das der Architekt Basil
De Witte in der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts errichtet hat. 2006
wurde es nach einer detailgetreuen Renovierung und
Restaurierung als Hotel eröffnet. Die Zimmer sind in einem
historischen Stil mit unverkennbar maritimen Motiven
gestaltet. Das Restaurant des Hotels oben im neunten Stock
heißt nicht ohne Grund Bellevue Brasserie. Der Blick, den man
von hier über die Dächer der Stadt mit den vielen Kirchenkuppeln,
dem Spitz der Admiralität und den Giebeln der
Eremitage hat, ist tatsächlich wunderschön.

The Kempinski Hotel Moika 22 is our hotel recommendation
for St. Petersburg – and not just thanks to its outstanding
location, just moments away from the entrance to the
Hermitage, and reassuringly close to Nevsky Prospekt. The
hotel offers absolutely everything the demanding guest could
possibly desire, just as you would expect of the name
Kempinski. It is in a palace constructed by architect Basil De
Witte in the mid-19th century, and reopened as a hotel in 2006,
after the building had been renovated and restored to its
nineteenth-century grandeur, accurate down to the very last
detail. The rooms are designed in historic style, with
unmistakeable maritime motifs. The restaurant, up on the ninth
floor, is called the ‘Bellevue Brasserie’, and not without good
reason: the view it offers over the roofs of the city, with the
countless church cupolas, past the spire of the Admiralty
building and the gables of the Hermitage, is simply stunning.
RESTAURANTS
Gern werden von St.-Petersburg-Besuchern jene Restaurants
aufgesucht, in denen Kellner in historischen Kostümen und in
einem imperialen Ambiente Boeuf Stroganoff servieren. Ein
Klassiker in diese Hinsicht ist das Restaurant Palkin (palkin.
ru) am Newski-Prospekt. Längst ist in der Stadt aber auch eine
moderne und innovative Küche zu finden, mit Küchenchefs,
die ihr Handwerk in den besten Restaurants Spaniens oder
Frankreichs erlernt haben und die nun die russische Küche
vorsichtig erneuern. Mit Auszeichnungen überhäuft wurden in
jüngster Zeit das Restaurant PMI Bar (pmibar.com) und sein
Küchenchef, der junge Ivan Berezuckiy. Angesagt sind „Secret
Restaurants“, die am Eingang nicht gekennzeichnet sind und
deren Adressen per Mundpropaganda weitergereicht werden.

Visitors to St. Petersburg often like to seek out restaurants
where waiters wearing historic costume serve beef stroganoff,
and imperial splendour defines the ambience. One classic in
this regard is the restaurant Palkin (palkin.ru), on Nevsky
Prospekt. For some time now, however, the city has also been
evolving a more modern and innovative cuisine, with chefs who
have learnt their trade at the best restaurants in Spain and
France breathing exciting new life into Russian cuisine. In
recent years, the restaurant PMI Bar (pmibar.com) and its
chef, the young Ivan Berezuckiy, have been showered with
prizes. Also much in demand are the city’s ‘secret restaurants’,
which do not announce their presence at the entrance and
whose addresses are passed on by word of mouth alone. A
hotel concierge who knows his trade will be able to help you in
your search for one of these; one of the most interesting is the
EM Restaurant (emrestaurant.ru).

St. Petersburg, was hat Ihnen dort
am besten gefallen? Mich fasziniert
jedes Mal die Architektur im
Stadtzentrum, die langen Boulevards,
der Schlossplatz. Den Newski-Prospekt
darf und kann man nicht auslassen,
und abends erzeugen die beleuchteten
Brücken eine besondere Atmosphäre.
St. Petersburg ist einzigartig und als
solches ein absolutes Must See!
Welches ist Ihr Lieblingslokal? Das
Restaurant Frikadelki (Nabereschnaya
Kanal Griboedova Nr.8/1). Es liegt
genau zwischen Kasaner Kathedrale
und der Auferstehungskirche; es gibt
russische Pelmeni, Kwass, Fischgerichte,
Gretschka (=Buchweizengericht),
Piroschki, alles vom Buffet,
alles frisch, schnell, gut und günstig.
Dann das Restaurant Russkaya charka
(Nab. Reki Fontanki, 92) mit typisch
russischer Küche. Außerdem Khochu
Kharcho (ul. Sadovaya 39/41), wo es
(nicht nur) georgische Küche gibt:
Schaschliki und Chatschapuri.
Wo finde ich die besten Einkaufsmöglichkeiten?
Entlang des
Newski-Prospekt wird wohl jeder
fündig. Naschkatzen sollten unbedingt
im Haus Newski-Prospekt Nr. 56 bei
Feinkost Jelissejew vorbeischauen.
Reiseführer auch auf Deutsch und
Englisch gibt es in der Jugendstil-
Buchhandlung Dom Knigi gegenüber
der Kasaner Kathedrale. Einen
klassischen Einkaufstempel findet man
in der Galeria am Ploschad Wostanniya.
Haben Sie einen Geheimtipp? Nach
dem Besuch der vielen großen Museen
unbedingt einmal raus aus der Stadt
und die Schlossanlagen in Peterhof
oder den Katharinenpalast in Zarskoe
Selo besuchen. Dort gibt es riesige
Parks zum Flanieren.

You’ve just got back from St.
Petersburg; what did you most like
about it there? Every time I come
here, I’m fascinated by the architecture
in the city centre, the endless
boulevards and Schlossplatz. You
should never, ever miss out Nevsky
Prospekt, and in the evenings the
illuminated bridges create a very
special atmosphere. St. Petersburg is
truly unique, and an absolute must-see!
What’s your favourite place to get a
bite to eat? The restaurant Frikadelki
(Nabereschnaya Kanal Griboedova
No.8/1). This is midway between the
Kazan Cathedral and the Church of the
Resurrection, and serves Russian
pelmeni, kwass, fish dishes, gretschka
(a buckwheat dish), piroshky – all from
the buffet, fresh, fast, delicious and
affordable. Then there’s the restaurant
Russkaya charka (Nab. Reki Fontanki,
92), with its typically Russian cuisine. As
well as these, I would recommend
Khochu Kharcho (ul. Sadovaya 39/41),
where they serve Georgian cuisine, like
shashlik (shish kebab) and khachapuri,
and much more besides.
What are the best shopportunities?
You’ll find everything you could
possibly need – no matter what you’re
looking for – along Nevsky Prospekt. If
you’ve got a sweet tooth, be sure to
drop by Eliseyev delicatessen at 56
Nevsky Prospekt. There are also travel
guides in German and English in the
Jugendstil bookshop Dom Knigi,
opposite Kazan Cathedral, and a
traditional temple to shopping at
Galeria on Vosstaniya Square.
Any insider tips? After visiting the
city’s countless huge museums, be sure
to get out of town and visit the castle
grounds in Peterhof or Catherine Palace
in Tsarskoye Selo, where there are vast
parklands to stroll around.
