complementing the major events in the Bach on air series on
Market square, the BacHmosphere concerts will be taking place in a
variety of venues ranging from leipzig opera House, and leipzig Zoo
to the Moritzbastei. the series will open with a fascinating and unusual
concert: tenor Martin Petzold will sing arias by Bach accompanied by
the trio headed by pianist stephan König which plays Bach’s music
with a jazz-inspired slant. vocal ensemble MoZuluart will be coming
along for the african reflections concert, taking their inspiration from
the rich musical traditions of southern africa and european classical
music – here, Zulu chants meet Mozart and Bach. Back in leipzig after
a long absence is the pianist Joachim Kühn, one of the few german jazz
musicians of world stature. Following on from his encounters with jazz
icon ornette coleman and leipzig’s st. thomas’ choir, Joachim Kühn
will be appearing at the Bachfest 2012 in a solo concert, focusing exclusively
on his universe as a pianist. Pascal von Wroblewsky, who has
been one of the most popular jazz singers in germany since the
mid-1980s, will be providing yet another take on Johann sebastian
Bach, while the encounter between Michael Wollny and tamar Halperin
promises to be a thrilling one: a duo between the most highly acclaimed
german jazz pianist of the younger generation and an israeli harpsichordist
who is more usually seen performing in a classical music
context. »Wunderkammer« (»chamber of wonders«) is how the two
have entitled their programme, which is all about innovation and
i magination in sound.
