Platform3 2010
Numbers and Realities 2: An innovative, cultural
and artistic model, Platform3 will enrich Munich’s
cultural landscape for at least two more years.
Two city institutions came together to allow the
creation of such a project: Munich’s Department
of Labour and Economic Development, and the
Department of Arts and Culture.
3: Platform3 is situated on the third floor of an
ex-industrial complex in the South of Munich
and combines three space-usage concepts:
exhibition, offices, studios. The aim is to support
three professions: Cultural managers,
facility managers, and artists.
4+1: In total, four trainees work for a duration
of one year on projects that are conceived, realised
and exhibited at Platform3. This team is
enriched by the presence of a grant-supported
trainee from the Robert Bosch Foundation.
: This flexible initial position allows a young
cultural institution almost endless development
possibilities: Network-based, trans-disciplinary
working practice that caters for innovative,
socially and culturally relevant event models.
It’s a paradigm shift that doesn’t just reassess
the presentation and mediation of works, but
also examines the production context in a new
light: the studio, a physical and mental space
for artistic creation. The easily-experienced
artistic production taking place at the location
allows a perfect breeding ground for debate.
The same principle of “experienced pratice“ is
also carried over to the day-to-day project
work and so reflects the complex profession
of culture and event management and its increased
internationalisation; Platform3 is as
plugged in to the European and international
art and culture context as it is in Munich. A
dialogue is thus set up with and about the art
world, something that makes a trip to Munich’s
South well worth it!
that illuminates the profile and appearance of
