Chimney stoves differ from open fireplaces insofar as they are not fully built in and have a closed, separate firebox or fire chamber. This means that the fuel burns at a significantly higher degree of efficiency (defined as the percentage of the potential heating value of the fuel). All chimney stoves described in this brochure are equipped with control inlets regulating the supply of primary air (this is air that reaches the fire from below) and of secondary air, also called hot-air wash. This means that cold air enters the firebox close to the window, visibly cleaning the glass (keeping it free from soot) and causing the not yet combusted parts of the flue gasses to be burned. The best way to use these air inlets is explained in the Installation and Instruction Manual.
