To compare the ability to quench autofluorescence, we applied the Sudan Black B<br />
protocol in parallel to other methods as indicated. Using different fluorescence filter<br />
setups, the remaining mean autofluorescence level was evaluated by quantitative<br />
analysis of identically sized image areas that display comparable exocrine tissue<br />
areas rich in acini. For each experiment, mean autofluorescence of control images<br />
obtained from specimen without treatment was defined as 100% intensity. The<br />
corresponding experiments are described in Fig. 6, 7, and 8.<br />
