0 to 16 years of age are most frequently affected.
Accidents or violations in the accident segments
«Broken glass, sheetmetal», «Animals» and
«Equipment, tools, appliances, machinery» are
most frequently registered in the age category 26-
to 45-years old.
The generally largest population-related incidence
as a function of accident segment and age
group is in the 0- to 16-year-olds, who suffer
injuries from falls. The second highest incidence
noted is among senior citizens and is also in the
«Falls» accident segment. The age group of 0- to
16-year-olds also shows the highest populationrelated
incidence for a further seven accident segments
in each case. In the 26- to 45-year-old age
group, the highest incidence is only in the «Animals»
accident segment.
4.3.3 Material cost
Costs caused by falls generate the largest share of
the overall costs of CHF 4730m. Almost two
thirds of all accident costs (65%) in the home and
leisure sector are attributable to the «falls» accident
sector. The relevance of the costs of injuries
caused by broken glass and sheetmetal (7%) as
well as by the other accident segments is much
lower. Most costs are caused in the adult age
group (CHF 2411m). In the analysis of injury severity,
it is noticeable that serious injuries (injuries
with hospitalization for 7 or more days) account for
the largest single cost (CHF 1422m). The average
case costs for injuries in the home and leisure
sector rise with increasing age. While the case
costs for children are at CHF 2109, they amount in
adulthood to almost 4 times as much (CHF 7979)
and in old age to more than 10 times as much
(CHF 22 923).
