<strong>Austria</strong>n company. The stocks of the<br />
corporation are found predominantly<br />
in the possession of those families<br />
who joined in with their firms to form<br />
the corporation in 1970. The shares<br />
are not traded on the stock market.<br />
<strong>SPAR</strong> <strong>Austria</strong>’s core business is the<br />
wholesale and retail trade market<br />
with the food and non-food staples of<br />
daily life. In sales, <strong>SPAR</strong> operates<br />
with a two-fold market cultivation:<br />
besides <strong>SPAR</strong>’s own branches,<br />
approximately half of the <strong>SPAR</strong> markets<br />
today are run by independent<br />
<strong>SPAR</strong> retailers. <strong>SPAR</strong> interacts with<br />
them as their wholesale partner. The<br />
individual <strong>SPAR</strong> store formats are<br />
categorized according to sales area<br />
size. This extends from <strong>SPAR</strong><br />
Gourmet and the <strong>SPAR</strong> market to the<br />
<strong>SPAR</strong> supermarket and the EURO-<br />
<strong>SPAR</strong> store, on to the INTER<strong>SPAR</strong><br />
hypermarket and Maximarkt.<br />

companies in the area of meat<br />
and sausage specialties, coffee and<br />
tea as well as wine and spirits. In<br />
addition, <strong>SPAR</strong> is <strong>Austria</strong>’s largest<br />
developer, builder and manager of<br />
shopping centers.<br />

forward strongly in the past years<br />
due to dynamic development and<br />
expansion. With around 1,500 locations<br />
and sales returns of € 4.66<br />
Billion (2006 figures), <strong>SPAR</strong> <strong>Austria</strong><br />
achieved a market share of 27.6%<br />
