The Origin<br />
The start in Italy took place in 1991 with<br />
the acquisition of the De<strong>SPAR</strong> Wholesale<br />
Company Amonn in Bolzano.<br />
Further food wholesale and retail companies<br />
were acquired in the following<br />
years and fused into one joint company.<br />
Organizational Structure<br />
ASPI<strong>AG</strong> Service srl. is active at present<br />
in the so-called "Triveneto" area: these<br />
are the regions of Trentino-South Tyrol,<br />
Venetia and Friaul-Julisch-Venetia - and<br />
in the province of Ferrara.<br />
The headquarters for De<strong>SPAR</strong> is in<br />
Padua. In addition, there are regional<br />
centers in Bolzano and Udine which<br />
supply and service the surrounding<br />
regions.<br />
Within the consolidation of the De<strong>SPAR</strong><br />
organization in Triveneto, around 400<br />
retailers are also active. They manage<br />
their De<strong>SPAR</strong> stores as typical regional<br />
convenience stores.<br />
Cooperation<br />
Since 2006, <strong>SPAR</strong> in Italy belongs to<br />
Centrale Italiana, the largest purchasing<br />

Meat Factory<br />
Since 1997, the TANN meat factory,<br />
accredited with the IFS (<strong>International</strong><br />
Food Standards) quality certificate, is<br />
in operation in Bolzano. The meat<br />
which is processed here and the produced<br />
sausage specialties are sold in<br />
around 500 De<strong>SPAR</strong>, EURO<strong>SPAR</strong> and<br />
INTER<strong>SPAR</strong> stores.<br />

Market Leader<br />
The food retail business in the<br />
Triveneto region is divided up between<br />
many, in part small companies.<br />
De<strong>SPAR</strong> has held the market<br />
leadership for years with around 12<br />
percent of the market share. Through<br />
the dynamic expansion in the past<br />
years - just in 2006, eight Epam<br />
stores were acquired and numerous<br />
independent stores as well as the<br />
IPERCITY shopping center opened -<br />
the share of the market could be<br />
clearly strengthened as well.<br />
