Mit dieser Broschüre laden wir Sie
herzlich ein, sich über die erfolgreichen
Aktivitäten der ASPIAG (Austria SPAR
International AG) näher zu informieren:
Mit Riesenschritten expandiert SPAR
seit 1990 in den Märkten in Nordostitalien,
Slowenien, Ungarn, Tschechien
und Kroatien. Mit dem Aufbau selbstständiger
SPAR-Landesorganisationen
ist eine konsequente Orientierung am
regionalen Kunden möglich. Kontinuierlich
werden in allen Ländern die
Marktanteile dank einer ambitionierten
Expansionspolitik und einer offensiven,
mitarbeiterorientierten Unternehmensführung
ausgebaut.
Durch die Zusammenarbeit der SPAR-
Landesorganisationen mit der ASPIAG
und der SPAR Österreich erschließen
sich Synergien auf dem gemeinsamen
Weg zu einem nachhaltig erfolgreichen
mitteleuropäischen Handelskonzern.
SPAR Österreich
Die SPAR Österreichische Warenhandels-AG
ist ein zu 100 Prozent
privates österreichisches Unternehmen.
Die Anteile der Aktiengesellschaft
befinden sich überwiegend im
Eigentum jener Familien, die bei der
Gründung der AG ihre Betriebe 1970
in das Unternehmen eingebracht
haben. Die Aktien werden nicht an
der Börse gehandelt.
Das Kerngeschäft von SPAR Österreich
ist der Groß- und Einzelhandel
mit Lebensmitteln und Nicht-Lebensmitteln
des täglichen Bedarfs.
Im Verkauf setzt SPAR auf eine duale
Marktbearbeitung: Neben SPAReigenen
Filialen wird auch heute
noch etwa die Hälfte der SPAR-
Märkte von selbstständigen SPAR-
Kaufleuten geführt. Ihnen gegenüber
tritt SPAR als Großhändler auf.
Die einzelnen Geschäftstypen von
SPAR ist außerdem Österreichs
größter Entwickler, Errichter und
Betreiber von Shopping-Centern.
SPAR Österreich konnte in den vergangenen
Jahren dank dynamischer
Entwicklung und Expansion kräftig
dazugewinnen. Mit rund 1.500 Standorten
und einem Verkaufsumsatz
von 4,66 Mrd. Euro (Basis 2006)
erreichte SPAR Österreich einen
Marktanteil von 27,6 Prozent (inkl.
SPAR
Austria
SPAR AG is a 100% privately-owned
Austrian company. The stocks of the
corporation are found predominantly
in the possession of those families
who joined in with their firms to form
the corporation in 1970. The shares
are not traded on the stock market.
SPAR Austria’s core business is the
wholesale and retail trade market
with the food and non-food staples of
daily life. In sales, SPAR operates
with a two-fold market cultivation:
besides SPAR’s own branches,
approximately half of the SPAR markets
today are run by independent
SPAR retailers. SPAR interacts with
them as their wholesale partner. The
individual SPAR store formats are
categorized according to sales area
size. This extends from SPAR
Gourmet and the SPAR market to the
SPAR supermarket and the EURO-
SPAR store, on to the INTERSPAR
hypermarket and Maximarkt.
like the prize-winning EUROPARK in Salzburg.
SPAR AG maintains its own production
companies in the area of meat
tea as well as wine and spirits. In
addition, SPAR is Austria’s largest
developer, builder and manager of
shopping centers.
The Success of an Idea
SPAR Austria was able to surge
forward strongly in the past years
due to dynamic development and
Die Idee
Die Handelskette SPAR Österreich hatte
sich seit der Gründung in den 1950er-
Jahren in Österreich ausgesprochen erfolgreich
entwickelt. Die ursprünglich
kleine Handelskette mit anfangs 100
selbstständigen Kaufleuten war bis in
die 1990er-Jahre zu einem bedeutenden
Unternehmen mit sechs Großhandelszentralen
und rund 1.600 SPAR- und
INTERSPAR-Standorten gewachsen.
Auch das zusätzliche Geschäftsfeld der
Shopping-Center wurde sehr konsequent
und erfolgreich ausgebaut.
Jedoch zeichnete sich bereits Anfang
der 1990er-Jahre eine Sättigung des
österreichischen Marktes ab. Im Strategieprojekt
„SPAR 2000“ erkannte man
die Notwendigkeit einer grenzüberschreitenden
Ausrichtung des Unternehmens
und die damit verbundenen
Chancen. Aus dieser zukunftsgerichteten
Vision heraus wurde Anfang 1990
die ASPIAG (Austria SPAR International
AG) mit Sitz in St. Margrethen (CH)
gegründet. An die Spitze dieser neuen
Gesellschaft für die Auslandsbearbeitung
berief die SPAR einen der
erfahrensten Manager und Strategen,
KR Hans Drexel.
> Die Vision
„Die ASPIAG sieht sich den jeweiligen Volkswirtschaften
verpflichtet und möchte durch ihre Aktivitäten wichtige
Beiträge zur Entwicklung der Länder leisten“, so
KR Hans Drexel, der Pionier der ASPIAG.
> The Vision
„ASPIAG sees itself committed to each particular national
economy and with its activities hopes to make important
contributions towards the countries´ development.“ says
Hans Drexel, the pioneer of ASPIAG.
Das Ziel dieser Auslandsgesellschaft
der SPAR Österreich war und ist, in den
zu Österreich benachbarten Ländern jeweils
eigenständige SPAR-Landesorganisationen
aufzubauen.
The idea
The food retail chain, SPAR Austria, had
developed in a most successful way in
Austria since its establishment in the 1950s.
The first small food retail chain with 100
independent retailers had grown into a significant
company in the 1990s with six retail
distribution centers and around 1,600 SPAR
Austria SPAR International
and INTERSPAR locations. The shopping
center as an additional commercial segment
had been consistently and successfully
developed.
However, the Austrian market already
showed signs of saturation by the beginning
of the 1990s. With the strategic project,
”SPAR 2000“, the necessity for the company
for a target across the borders was recognized,
as well as the accompanying opportunities.
As a result of this future-oriented vision,
the ASPIAG (Austria SPAR International, Inc.)
was founded in 1990 with headquarters in St.
Margrethen (Switzerland). At the head of this
new corporation, SPAR appointed one of the
most experienced managers and strategists
for its foreign development: Hans Drexel.
The goal of SPAR Austria’s corporation
abroad was and is to develop independent
national SPAR organizations in each of
Austria’s neighboring countries.
SPAR Ungarn wurde vom
Unterrichtsministerium
das Zertifikat „Institution
für Erwachsenenbildung“
verliehen. Das beweist
das hervorragende
Niveau bei der Aus- und
Weiterbildung der
Mitarbeiter.
Die Quelle des Erfolges
Bei SPAR in Italien, Slowenien, Ungarn,
Tschechien und Kroatien sind mehr als
25.700 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter
beschäftigt (2006). Die bestens ausgebildeten,
motivierten Mitarbeiter sind
die Quelle des Erfolges von SPAR: Sie
tragen durch ihre hohe Kompetenz und
Kundenorientierung wesentlich zur positiven
Entwicklung des Unternehmens
bei.
Wichtiger Arbeitgeber
Durch die zügige Expansion konnten in
den vergangenen Jahren tausende neue,
moderne und attraktive Arbeitsplätze
geschaffen werden. SPAR ist dadurch
ein wichtiger Wirtschaftsmotor.
Permanente
Weiterbildung
Auf permanente Weiterbildung wird besonders
großer Wert gelegt. In laufenden
Schulungen steht die Optimierung
der Kunden- und Verkaufsorientierung
der Mitarbeiter im Mittelpunkt. Seminare
zur Erhöhung der Kompetenz im
Feinkostbereich oder verbessertes Produktwissen
gehören ebenso dazu wie
Verkaufstrainings oder die Entwicklung
von Führungskompetenzen. Bei der Ausund
Weiterbildung setzt SPAR auch auf
E-Learning.
Innovative
Lehrlingsausbildung
Auf die Ausbildung von qualifiziertem
Nachwuchs legt SPAR besonderes Augenmerk.
In Österreich erhalten die
Lehrlinge eine weit über das normale
Maß hinausgehende, umfassende Ausbildung
– sogar in eigenen so genannten
„SPAR-Akademie-Klassen“. Dieses Modell
wird seit kurzem auch in Ungarn
umgesetzt.
The Source of
Success
With SPAR in Italy, Slovenia,
Hungary, the Czech Republic and
Croatia, more than 25,700 women
and men are employed (2006). The
motivated and optimally-trained
employees are SPAR’s source of
success. They contribute substantially
to the positive development of
the company through their high
competence and customer service.
Significant Employer
Thousands of new, modern and
attractive jobs were able to be created
over the past years because of
the rapid expansion. SPAR is therefore
a significant economic driving
force.
SPAR bietet viele
bis zum Logistikspezialisten.
SPAR offers many
different vocational
options - from the
Deli saleswoman to
the logistics
Continual
Further Training
The value of continual further
training is particularly stressed. In
on-going training sessions, the
improvement of customer service
and sales awareness is a focal point.
Seminars for increasing expertise in
the delicatessen section or improved
product knowledge are as much a
part as sales training or the development
of managerial skills. In its
basic and further training, SPAR also
utilizes E-Learning.
Innovative
Apprenticeship Training
SPAR is especially focused on the
training of a qualified next generation.
which far surpasses normal standards
- actually in their own socalled
durch die Übernahme des DeSPAR-
Großhandels-Unternehmens Amonn in
Bozen. In den folgenden Jahren wurden
weitere Lebensmittelgroß- und Einzelhändler
übernommen und durch Fusionen
zu einem gemeinsamen Unternehmen
verbunden.
Organisationsstruktur
ASPIAG Service srl. ist derzeit im Gebiet
des so genannten „Triveneto“ – das sind
die Regionen Trentino-Südtirol, Venetien
und Friaul-Julisch-Venetien – und in der
Provinz Ferrara tätig.
Sitz der DeSPAR-Zentrale ist in Padua.
Zudem gibt es in Bozen und Udine
Regionalzentralen, die die umliegenden
Regionen beliefern und betreuen.
Unter dem Dach der DeSPAR-Organisation
im Triveneto agieren auch rund
400 DeSPAR-Kaufleute. Sie betreiben
ihre DeSPAR-Märkte als typische regionale
Nahversorger.
Kooperationen
Seit 2006 gehört SPAR in Italien der
Centrale Italiana, dem größten Einkaufsverbund
des Landes, an. Weitere
Kooperationen – vor allem bei der Entwicklung
der erfolgreichen DeSPAR-
Eigenmarken – bestehen mit den elf
weiteren, voneinander unabhängigen
DeSPAR-Organisationen, die in anderen
Regionen Italiens tätig sind.
Fleischwerk
Seit 1997 ist das mit dem Qualitätszertifikat
IFS (International Food Standards)
ausgezeichnete TANN-Fleischwerk in
Bozen in Betrieb. Das hier verarbeitete
Fleisch sowie die hergestellten Wurstspezialitäten
werden in den rund 500
oberitalienischen DeSPAR-, EUROSPARund
INTERSPAR-Märkten verkauft.
Marktführer
Der Lebensmittel-Markt im Gebiet Triveneto
ist auf viele, teilweise kleine
Unternehmen aufgeteilt. DeSPAR hält in
der Region mit rund 12 Prozent Marktanteil
seit Jahren die Marktführerschaft.
Durch die dynamische Expansion in den
vergangenen Jahren – alleine 2006 wurden
acht Epam-Märkte übernommen
und zahlreiche Eigenbetriebe sowie das
Einkaufszentrum IPERCITY eröffnet –
konnte der Marktanteil zudem deutlich
gesteigert werden.

Market Leader
The food retail business in the
Triveneto region is divided up between
many, in part small companies.
DeSPAR has held the market
Entwicklung
Der Einstieg in den ungarischen Markt
erfolgte über die teilweise Übernahme
der Firma General in Tatabanya. Rund 200
bestehende Standorte wurden ab 1991
nach und nach auf das SPAR-Supermarktkonzept
umgestaltet. Nach dem
Kauf von sieben großflächigen Supermärkten
in Budapest und der Übernahme
einer Supermarktkette im Süden Ungarns
wurde in Bicske ein modernes SPAR-
Distributionszentrum errichtet.
Es folgten weitere Firmenübernahmen,
über die vor allem die Hauptstadt Budapest
und die Region um Szeged erschlossen
wurden. Wichtige Expansionsschritte
konnten 2002 und 2003 mit der Übernahme
von 14 Billa- und 22 Kaiser´s-
Supermärkten gesetzt werden.
Als Erfolgsmotor setzt SPAR Ungarn nun
auf eine erfolgreiche Eigenexpansion mit
den SPAR- und INTERSPAR-Modellmarkt-Konzepten.
In den letzten Jahren
hat eine noch nie da gewesene Expansionswelle
stattgefunden. Zudem wurde
eine groß angelegte Modernisierungsoffensive
durchgeführt.
The startup in Croatia took place in
The development of the Croatian market
is making great strides: in 2006, in
Sisak and at the shopping center, City
Center One, in the capital city of Zagreb,
further INTERSPAR locations were
opened. Each of the shops has a sales
area of around 5,000 m 2. In 2007, the
INTERSPAR hypermarket opened in the
East-Slavonian metropolis of Osijek.
The INTERSPAR concept is enthusiastically
welcomed by Croatian customers.
Further expansion measures are planned.
SPAR works increasingly in Croatia with
a typically regional assortment.
Freshly-caught fish, in particular, is an
important part of the Croatian art of
living. INTERSPAR focuses therefore on
fish and offers freshly-caught fish daily.
The concept of the Tutto-Bene Café
reflects the Croatian lifestyle. The
Croatian customers were enthusiastic
from the beginning; the Tutto-Bene coffee
shops have become a very popular
place to meet.
The Right
Choice
for Every
Location
One secret for the successful development
of the market is the different
types of stores. The spectrum
ranges from small local grocers
like the Italian DeSPAR stores to
specialized City SPAR stores, and
on to fully assorted SPAR supermarkets,
large EUROSPAR stores
and the rich shopping experience
of INTERSPAR hypermarkets.
In selecting the store formats, the
needs of the customers and the
circumstances on site are always
considered. The variety of choice
allows a very flexible adaptation to
the local circumstances. For every
requirement, there is a fitting store
model which is being successfully
reproduced in each of the ASPIAG
countries.

Supermarket
SPAR supermarkets are
modern local providers
with a sales area of up to
2,000 m 2 defined by a special
emphasis in the fresh
produce area. They combine
professional standards,
value-for-money advantages
with the typical
attributes of a neighborhood
supermarket.
The stores most often run
by independent retailers
are the DeSPAR markets
in Italy. The innovative
a unique form of the
implemented in Hungary.
small and smallest stores
Only in Italy are the
Shopping-Center International
Erfolgsmodell Shopping-Center
The Shopping Center as a Model of
SPAR-eigene Shopping-Center
sind deshalb so erfolgreich, weil
SPAR immer als Entwickler, Errichter
und Betreiber fungiert.
Mit den INTERSPAR-Hypermärkten
und den ebenfalls zur
SPAR-Gruppe gehörenden
Hervis-Sports-Märkten ist SPAR
darüber hinaus auch immer der
größte Mieter und hat dadurch
höchstes Interesse an einer
langfristig positiven Entwicklung
der Shopping-Center. Top-
Standorte, modernste Architektur
und die besten Shoppartner
prägen auch die Shopping-
Center in den ASPIAG-Ländern.
Bisher wurden die Shopping-
entwickelt, errichtet und betrieben.
Seit Mitte 2007 sind diese
Aufgaben von der neu gegründeten
übernommen worden.
The reason SPAR-owned shopping
centers are so successful is
because SPAR always features
as developer, builder and manager.
Along with the INTERSPAR
hypermarkets and Hervis Sports
stores, which also belong to the
SPAR group, SPAR is also
always the largest tenant and
thus has the greatest interest in
the shopping center’s long-term
upwards development. Topchoice
locations, ultramodern
architecture and the best shopping
partners for the individual
country also define the shopping
center in the ASPIAG countries.
Until now, the shopping centers
were developed, constructed
and managed by the ASPIAG
itself. Since mid-2007, these
tasks have been taken over by
the newly-founded shopping
Sachen gesunder Ernährung: Immer mehr
Menschen beginnen, sich mit ihrer Ernährung
auseinanderzusetzen. SPAR greift das aktuelle
Thema auf und setzt sich als erster
Lebensmittelhändler umfassend mit dem
Trend auseinander. Neue, gesunde Produkte
werden
entwickelt
und die
Kunden
werden
ausführlich
informiert.
Trendsetter
Well-known testimonials: in order to get more attention, SPAR likes to use ”well-known faces“ in
its advertising campaigns. These testimonials are also adapted to each specific country.
Trendsetter
Just being a convenience provider offering a
perfectly designed assortment and shopping
pleasure is not enough for SPAR: the goal is to
make the customer excited every single day,
again and again. That means being ahead of the
trends, sensing and implementing what’s new,
and taking up the lead position in innovation.
Campaigns with
Adjacent Countries
The individual national organizations of the
SPAR Austria Group regularly exchange their
ideas for exciting advertising campaigns and
marketing measures. A great idea from one country
can often be successfully implemented in
another country with some specific regional
adaptation.
Distribution nach Maß
Customized Distribution
The concept of logistics in the ASPIAG and the national
companies signifies a service department which organizes
and implements every process of the supply chain
and information flow. The distribution centers play a
huge part in the concentrated and efficient delivery to
the stores. They provide the stores with products from
the various assortment areas. Punctuality, quality and
cost awareness define the logistics services which are
implemented using the most modern means. The utilized
software and hardware components are internationally
standardized.
The structures of the logistics centers are organized
according to the newest findings and permit an efficient
and flexible work flow. International cost and production
comparisons as well as specialized meetings continuously
improve the operative process and lower the costs.
Certain areas of the logistics service provision like nonfood
products are internationally structured and supply
each national company from one location. The employees
are continuously trained and involved in the
process improvements.
The branch logistics concentrate on the improvement of
every process in the stores: the main responsibilities are
the efficient assignment of employees as well as
commodity planning according to demand and space.
