c.a.r.u.s.
Urteilen Sie selber.
Größe ist dabei zweitrangig. Sie hilft und sie behindert. In der
Welt der Informationstechnologie zählt nur eines: WISSEN.
Die c.a.r.u.s.
Mitarbeitern in elf Städten, positioniert in vier europäischen
Ländern.
1987 gegründet, erwirtschaftete die
Gruppe im Jahre 2002 einen Umsatz von
71 Mio. €, was einer Steigerung gegenüber
dem Vorjahr von ca. 9 % entspricht.
Die Unternehmen in der c.a.r.u.s. Gruppe
vervollständigen die Kompetenzen als
„Total Solution Provider“ und schaffen
maximale Nähe zum Kunden. Die Themen
sind dabei immer: Information, Kommunikation
und Business Automation im
B-to-B Markt.
c.a.r.u.s.
Our vision is to be the most reliable IT partner in Europe.
Please judge for yourself.
Mere company size is of secondary importance. It can both
hinder and help. The only decisive factor in the IT world is:
KNOWLEDGE.
c.a.r.u.s. Information Technology AG in Norderstedt, Hamburg is
the ‘nucleus’ of a well positioned company group with more
than 300 employees in four European countries in eleven cities.
Founded in 1987, the group turnover in 2002 surpassed
71 Mil. €, which represents a 9% rise compared to fiscal
year 2001.
The combined skillsets of the group members add up to our
core competence as a ‘Total Solution Provider’ with prime
customer orientation and an outstanding knowledge base. Our
key topics remain: information, communication and business
automation for the B-2-B market.
2 c.a.r.u.s.
Retail
So arbeiten
Zeit: Das „Chinesen-Prinzip“ funktioniert
nicht mehr. Die Kernfrage moderner
Anwendungen, die Schnittstellen, sind nur
durch Intelligenz und nicht durch mehr
„Manpower“ zu lösen.
Geld: „Individualsoftware kostet immer
mehr als geplant!“ ist das Klischee. Wir
bieten Festpreise – schlüsselfertig.
Vorsprung: Schneller und billiger war
lange die alleinige Messlatte. Wie wäre
es, wenn Sie außerdem noch signifikante
Wettbewerbsvorteile bekämen? Wir
haben es bewiesen.
Retail
c.a.r.u.s. Frameworks (siehe S. 11) und in einer „altdeutschen
Ingenieursdenke“ – alles zusammen nennen wir das:
ResponseAbility. The initial spark for c.a.r.u.s. came in 1987 with the development
of a software application for trading musical tickets. It was
constructed in record time and revolutionised this market segment
regarding both technology and method. This has been our
work concept until today.
Nowadays all kinds of different consumer goods are traded,
administered and billed via our systems. The requirements
remain unchanged: Time| Cost| Lead are the valid parameters
under which the success of business software solutions should
be measured.
Time: The ‘Chinese method’ does not work anymore. The key
challenges of modern applications, i.e. the interfaces, cannot be
handled with just more manpower but only with intelligence.
Cost: ‘Custom made Software always costs more than expected’
is the common cliché. We offer fixed prices: ready-to-use.
Lead: ‘Faster and cheaper’ has long been the only proof-of-concept.
But how about obtaining significant competitive advantages
on top? We proved this point!
The key to this approach lies in our experience based on 15
years of retail software development, the deployment of the unique
c.a.r.u.s. Frameworks (s. page 11) and the traditional quality
seal of ‘made-in-Germany’ engineering – the total of which we
simply call: ResponseAbility.
Produkt vs. Projekt
Make or Buy, eine heftig geführte Kontroverse.
Viele sagen: „Buy!
Also lieber „Make“?
Methoden (UML, UP, ...) und Techniken (Objektorientierung,
eigene Frameworks, ...).
Was tun? Unsere
in unseren Lösungen berücksichtigen. Neue Software integriert
Wir sagen also ganz klar: „Make or buy!“ Wir bieten beides
Entscheidung.
Hardware · Software · ResponseAbility
Product vs. Project
Make or Buy, a never ending controversy.
Many experts claim: ‘Buy! It’s cheaper and faster.’ However,
industry research reveals that the deployment of so called ‘standard
software’ exceeds the calculated budget three to five
times and often requires significantly longer periods for deployment
and configuration. The once targeted simple solution can
easily cause severe problems.
So it’s ‘Make’? ‘No way!’ many IT decision makers protest. They
have made their own painful experiences with exceeding time,
budgets and quality deficiencies.
At c.a.r.u.s. we paid our dues in the past 15 years. That’s why
our approach to software development is that of engineering
with proven methods (e.g. UML, UP, …) and techniques (e.g.
object orientation, frameworks, …). A few years ago we reached
the conclusion that this alone is not enough to successfully
meet the increasingly complex requirements of our customers.
They taught us that we’d build even better software if we
precisely understand the ins and outs of their business processes
and incorporate that know-how into our solutions. This way
new software can be seamlessly integrated into their working
environment. The results are reduced costs, saved time and
improved quality.
In consequence we openly state: ‘Make or Buy!’ We offer both
models plus additional semi-finished modules (cJEF) from our
Frameworks for our customers’ own ‘construction kits’ –
it’s up to your needs and our cAnalysis specialists can help you
finding out what exactly they are. With more than 10 man years
of experience they provide the ideal basis for this principal decision.
Warenwirtschaft
Warenwirtschaftslösungen für den Handel gehören zu den
anspruchsvollsten Retail-Anwendungen. Bestell-, Nachlieferungs-
und Warenbestandskontrollfunktionen werden durch
die Vernetzung mit den unterschiedlichsten ERP-Systemen,
Forecasting und Kommunikationsleistungen zunehmend komplex
und entscheidend für die Ertragssituation eines
Unternehmens.
zusammenarbeiten.
Die Ausprägungen sind im Einzelnen:
cCommerce ® |HQ
Das Neuste, was ein Handelsunternehmen
an Warensteuerung betreiben
kann. Bestellprozesse, Prüfung von
Lieferavis, Disposition, Sortimentsplanung,
Preisgestaltung, automatische
Rechnungsprüfung, Handelsstättenpflege,
Aktionsplanung auch in Kombination mit
Promotions der Lieferanten und inkl.
befristeter Preisstellung, Workflow
Management für die Warenwirtschaft und
Kundenkartenverwaltung. Brandneue
Algorithmen und langjährige Erfahrung in
der Steuerung von komplexen Sortimenten
machen diese Applikation zum
Return on Investment-Booster für
Filialisten.
cCommerce ® |S
Der „kleine Bruder“ der großen Zentralen-
Warenwirtschaft für die Filiale.
• Verwaltung der Filiale
• Verwaltung der Mitarbeiter
• Verwaltung des Geldbestandes
• Kassenkonfigurierung
cCommerce ® |D
Die Distributoren-Lösung – das Ergebnis umfangreicher
Erfahrungen mit Geschäftsprozessen von „Verteilern“. 1998
begann die Entwicklung dieses Standardpaketes, welches
mittlerweile in drei europäischen Ländern erfolgreich implementiert
wurde. Hauptnutzen ist die perfekte Balance zwischen Anpassungsfähigkeit
an bestehende Geschäftsprozesse und
hohem Standardisierungsgrad.
Merchandise Planning
and Control
Merchandise control solutions for trade purposes are among
the most demanding retail applications. The functions that
control the status of orders, subsequent deliveries and stock
become increasingly complex as they are linked to different ERP
systems, forecasting modules and communication services.
Consequently they are vital for the company’s earnings ratio.
cCommerce ® basically utilises the same mutually derived
objects for a centralised and a decentralised solution. This
technique provides a closed application as opposed to a loose
grouping of various products that do not correspond appropriately.
The current modules are defined as follows:
cCommerce ® |HQ
The most up-to-date merchandise control system that a retail
company can operate, covers the following functions: order processing,
delivery note verification, goods disposal, assortment
structuring, merchandise pricing, automated billing verification,
trade centre maintenance, campaign planning e.g. in combination
with special promotions from suppliers including temporary
price adjustments, workflow management for merchandise control
and customer card administration. Sophisticated algorithms
combined with several years of experience in controlling complex
assortments turn this application into a ‘Return on
Investment’-booster for branch network companies.
cCommerce ® |S
The ‘little brother’ of the extensive central merchandise control
application focussing on the branch office:
• Branch administration
• HR management
• Cash management
• Cash desk configuration
• Basic merchandise control
• Reporting
cCommerce ® |D
Our distribution solution is the result of substantial experience
and know-how regarding the business processes of distributors.
In 1998 we began the development of a standard package
which today looks back on numerous successful implementations
in three European countries. The main value proposition is
the perfect balance between a high level of standardisation and
an excellent adaptability to existing business processes.
Kassensoftware
Die c.a.r.u.s. Frameworks ermöglichen eine riesige Auswahl an
PoS-Systemmodulen. Textil, Gastronomie, Food, Non-Food und
sogar Mischformen sind einfach zusammenstellbar.
Vom schnellen, schlichten Zeilendisplay bis zur hoch-didaktischen
Touchscreen-Oberfläche; von einer Einzelkasse bis
zum 1000+ PC-Intranet ist alles drin.
Cash Register
Software
Cash register software has to execute
complex background processes in split
seconds while simultaneously translating
them into simple use cases. The cash desk
is the gate to added value. Therefore it
bears an enormous responsibility in terms
of stability and security.
Based on our experience we know about the diverse requirements
regarding data entry devices. By separating the user
interface (GUI) from the business logic, i.e. the underlying
business processes, we achieve a completely independent
user interface. With regard to succeeding processes it is solely
defined by the desired choice of hardware or conceptual
considerations.
c.a.r.u.s. Frameworks offer a substantial choice of PoS system
modules. This enables a quick selection of the right module from
Textile, Gastronomy, Food, Non-Food or an even combination of
the above. We offer a complete product range from a fast and
concise line display to a highly sophisticated touch-screen GUI
or from a single cash register to a 1000+ PC intranet.
kompletten Funktionen.
cCash ® |Touch
Was ist menschlich sinnvoll? 100 oder 120 Tasten? Technisch
kein Problem!
kostengünstig an bestehende Lösungen anzubinden.
cCash ® |Display
Our classic model with fast and concise line display is the
budget version with complete functionality – well proven in
thousands of applications.
cCash ® |Touch
What level of human interaction makes sense? 100 or 120
keys? Technically, there is no problem either way. However,
most processes in modern cash-registers only require between
3 and 6 key strokes. The constant challenge is how to find
them among the overcharged surface.
Our basic screen has 7 ‘main level’ buttons and a big orange
‘NEXT’-button. If actually more buttons are required (i.e. the
exception), they are featured as sub-menues to a main topical
area. cCash ® |Touch only displays what is essential for you in
that particular moment.
Right after its release, our first generation series already convinced
one of the leading European retailer for textile outlets.
Currently 1.600 smoothly running installations in five countries
give ample proof of a mature product for every day business life.
cCash ® |Touch is currently the most innovative touch screen
cash register application world-wide. The combined use of open
system architecture and relational databases enables a fast and
cost efficient connection to existing solutions.
cCash ® |Touch is a Windows based solution and supports the
standardised OPoS interface for PoS. Our customers do
On the one hand accountants sharply calculate new investments.
In order to optimise the capital base they try to avoid
liquidity squeezes from purchases or unnecessary costs e.g.
from re-financing.
On the other hand modern PoS systems are a must. This requires
high initial investments starting from hardware and software
purchases via installation costs to maintenance charges.
Adding to this, there is the unavoidable decrease in value of
your systems and the constant need for re-investing in order to
keep up with the market and with the corporation’s internal
needs and targets.
All this without even mentioning the highly volatile personnel
costs for system maintenance and training.
Our leasing program with calculable monthly rates per workstation
offers you full range cash desk functionality tailored to
your needs and a desired lease period from 36–60 months even
including hardware.
Our product offer ranges from compact line-display systems
over exclusively and fully equipped touch screen registers to
entire merchandise control systems.
Betriebssystem.
Dienst versieht.
cClearTouch ist das abgekoppelte JAVA Touch-GUI unserer
cCash ® |Touch Anwendung – modernstes Oberflächen-Design
für intuitive Benutzerführung, „Made in Hamburg“.
cClearTouch
Cash desks and warehouse management systems become an
integral part of the company’s structure over time. Therefore it’s
not always advisable to alter these structures when all you want
is to make use of technological progress available for the
front end side of business.
A good example is the General Sales Application (GSA) from
our partner IBM for the IBM 4690 operating system. It’s the
most successful software ever for PoS worldwide. No other
software can match the stability, reliability and distribution level
of this ‘dinosaur’ of PoS applications. However, the antiquated
user interface with its apparent limitations is increasingly becoming
an obstacle for many developers and IT-managers even
though the overall logic of the program still delivers faultless
service.
cClearTouch is the stand alone JAVA Touch GUI of our
cCash ® |Touch application. Sophisticated front end design
‘Made in Hamburg’ enables intuitive user guidance. The Visual
Editor connects cClearTouch with the existing GSA providing
such functions as defining short cuts, labelling keys and linking
system messages to screen masks.
Just keep your good old GSA and avoid the strenuous readjustment
of connected back end processes. cClearTouch will be
simply connected to it offering you all features of a state-of-theart
cash desk application without the need to interfere with your
background system.
cCiosk ®
B. Arbeitnehmern
in Produktionsbetrieben direkten Zugang zu
Informationen, Formularen und Diensten, wie Urlaubsanträgen
und ähnlichem zu geben. Betriebliche Mitbestimmung und
Identifikation lebt vom demokratischen Zugang zur Information.
Das breite Know-how von c.a.r.u.s. Retail bildet die notwendige
Grundlage für einzigartige Kiosk-Anwendungen mit hohem
Nutzwert und schnellem Return on Investment.
cCiosk ®
The kiosk is dead, long live the kiosk!
The idea is old to put precious information at the disposal of
other people where or when they might need or enjoy it. The
respective solutions that exist so far are rather rudimentary and
half-baked. Kiosk systems as all IT systems justify their reason
for being by a definite and substantial value proposition.
Generally mere technical toys vanish rather quickly, if they do
not offer the user or owner persistent added value.
cCiosk ® thrives on deeply connecting hard and valid input sources
with intuitive user guidance and entertainment. When
operating PoS we prefer to position the kiosk right at the cash
desk. Thus, queuing time can be used, staff is naturally around
and could offer conversation or consulting. The objective is to
transfer cash desk zones from ‘fields of despair’ into ‘fields of
joy’. On the content side, value adding systems are at the focus
of the user’s perspective, e.g. fast, secure and immediate editing
of their user profile regarding customer card, mail order,
sweep stakes or gift services. The customers are rewarded with
bonuses and exclusive offerings for maintaining their customer
data up-to-date. Technologically it’s easy to extent this model
even up to self-check-out. However the vital factors that guarantee
the system’s added value and topical relevance are both
captivating content and a profound realtime linkage with the
following systems: merchandise control, order, billing, and customer
information. Only the right combination of these factors
brings about a superior PoS offering that puts the company’s
entire goods and services universe informally at the disposal of
the shop customer.
Of course, kiosks can also be placed at production facilities
where they give employees direct access to relevant information,
services and administrative forms e.g. procurement, vacation
etc. Codetermination and identification with the company
depend on democratic access to information.
The vast know-how of c.a.r.u.s. Retail builds the necessary foundation
for unique kiosk applications with high added value and
fast return on investment.
Frameworks
cOSF – Open Shop Framework
Partner nutzbar. Für die Bestellung aus dem Internet bedeutet
das: Zugriff in Echtzeit, Online-Bestandsprüfung, realistische
Forecasts und zuverlässige Liefertermine.
Das cOSF ist quasi der „Web-Ableger“ des c.a.r.u.s. Java
Enterprise Framework (cJEF).
sicherstellt.
cJEF – Java Enterprise Framework
schneller in Produktion gehen. Die Design-Prozesse sind klar,
der entstehende Code extrem stabil. Die Projektkosten bleiben
im Rahmen und somit kalkulierbar.
Das cJEF Package optimiert den Erfolg Ihrer Projekte zur
Entwicklung individueller Software.
Im Paket enthalten sind:
1. Klare Analyse
2. Erprobte Architektur
3. Ein vielfältiges Framework
4. Übergabe von Quell-Code und Dokumentation
5. Intensive Einarbeitung Ihrer internen Ressourcen
6. Aktive Begleitung Ihrer Projekte
7. Permanenter Support
8. Schnelle Verfügbarkeit erfahrener c.a.r.u.s.
Entwicklungsspezialisten
Eigenschaften.
Frameworks
cOSF – Open Shop Framework
cOSF is the Framework – and the preferred e-business solution –
which adds a web based order platform to your merchandise
control system. Thus a relevant part of your existing business
model will be presented in the Internet and will be accessible
for your business partners. The implications for the actual web
orders are: realtime access, online stock verification, realistic
forecasts and reliable delivery dates.
Basically cOSF is the web ‘offspring’ of the c.a.r.u.s. Java
Enterprise Framework (cJEF). Small but complex software
modules contain the logic of several basic processes required
for Internet shopping, e.g. customer verification, transaction and
order logfiles as well as standard and individual pricing. These
modules serve to quickly generate individual shop solutions that
guarantee scalability – i.e. immediate growth potential on
demand – and protect business investments.
cJEF – Java Enterprise Framework
c.a.r.u.s. Java Enterprise Framework (cJEF) reduces project
duration. Time-to-market of your software can increase by more
than 50 percent. The design processes are clear cut and the
code generated is extremely ‘shock-proofed’. Project costs stay
within budget and remain foreseeable.
The cJEF package optimises the success rate of your individual
software development.
The package includes:
1. Precise analysis
2. Experienced sound architecture
3. Multifunctional Frameworks
4. Handing out of source code and documentation
5. Intensive training of your internal staff
6. Proactive project coaching
7. Permanent support
8. Quick availability of c.a.r.u.s. experts with relevant experience
9. Optional upgrades and enhancements
On top of this, cJEF ‘fixes’ your problems at a one-stop-shop:
for a fixed price and with a fixed delivery date – including all
promised functions.
