Antiquariat Bibermühle offers in catalogues 63, 64, 65 an incomparable reference
library totalling about 6.500 lots that leaves nothing to be desired by bibliophiles
and scholars.
The first volume is entirely devoted to early written and printed book culture: viz.
palaeography, manuscript illumination and printing in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Within this framework some hundred colourful facsimile editions provide
us with a vivid picture of this period. The second portion opens a widespread panorama:
It includes bibliographies and reference works concerning literature and
art, history and cultural history, theology, geography, natural sciences, technology
etc. and closes with no less than 800 personal bibliographies. Books about books
are gathered in the third volume: Here are to be found standard and specialized
studies, catalogues and bibliographical lists in the fields of book and library lore,
printing history, bibliophily, art of writing and bookbinding, book illustration
and book plates.
The collections of the antiquarian booksellers Roland Hartmann, Carlo Alberto
Chiesa, Tammaro de Marinis and parts of that of Heribert Tenschert, all grown
over decades, are now assembled in one work, that fascinates by the abundance,
quality and concentration of the material, the numerous special and luxury editions
offered, the mostly immaculate bindings of the leading masters as well as
famous provenances. The condition of the collection is outstanding: A large part
is bound in red half morocco and in mint condition, witness of an appreciation of
bibliographical literature nearly never found nowadays.
The carefully edited catalogue contains about 1.500 colour illustrations and is –
unique for a catalogue of this subject – made accessible by comprehensive indexes.
In short, it is a reference work advisable to all book-lovers.
