A recently published gold coin of the Aksumite king Mhdys (known from his copper
coins in this unvoweled form) can be dated to the 420s A. D. as it copies the significant reverse
type of an Eastern Roman solidus. This typological composition as well as the choice
of the king's name probably to be derived from the biblical Matthias is interpreted and associated
with the history of the Christian church.

this coin to the time of Zeno's exile in Antioch between 468 and 471. He further localizes
