Bei MR werden normalerweise Frequenzen im Megahertz (MHz)-Bereich verwendet, z.B. 63 MHz bei 1,5 Tesla. Die Hauptwirkung von hochfrequenten Magnetfeldern auf den menschlichen Körper ist die Energieabgabe in Form von Wärme, hauptsächlich an der Körperoberfläche. Die Energieabsorption ist eine wichtige Größe für die Erstellung von Sicherheitsgrenzwerten. –> Spezifische Absorptionsrate (SAR) Bildqualität. Ein Magnetfeld, das überall die gleiche Feldstärke besitzt, nennt man homogen. Bei MR ist die Homogenität des statischen Magnetfeldes ein wichtiges Kriterium für die Qualität des Magneten. Wichtig ist eine hohe Homogenität vor allem für spektrale Fettsättigung, für ein großes Bildfeld (FoV), für die Offcenter-Bildgebung, für die Echoplanare Bildgebung und für die MR-Spektroskopie.

Die CSI-Messung geht über ein selektiv angeregtes Volume of Interest. Durch die Volumenselektion werden Bereiche mit starken, störenden Signalen (z.B. Fett) nicht angeregt und liefern damit in den Spektren keine Signalanteile.
