Research of the available data and knowledge exchange, with both national and
international experts have shown that the processing of fruit stones should take place
in one central location. But some clearly outlined processing steps such as the
washing and drying of the stones can still also be accomplished by the individual
partners themselves.
Location Tulln
In order to demonstrate the financial and technical feasibility of UpScaling, several
existing machines need to be optimised, joined together for a small research plant
and co-ordinated. The location for such a research plant has been found in Tulln,
Lower Austria, and adjusted with local partners. Contact with the universities of
applied sciences in Tulln and Wieselburg on the one hand enables knowledge
exchanges with experts in the field of sustainability and renewable sources, on the
other hand it allows passing on the idea of cascading to students. The projected
KernCraft Austria Research Factory can serve as a place for learning important
processing as well as product development and marketing principles for students. In
Wieselburg, open commercial questions are to be addressed in a broad business
plan and in succession contacts with potential investors are to be established.
As further settlings of businesses and research centres for the use of renewable
biomatters are planned in Tulln, KernCraft Austria can expand its network of
prospective customers and use synergies for the ‘Centre of renewable biomatters’.
One of the most important partners for this project, the engine construction company
Cimbria Heid (Stockerau), also is resident in the area of Tulln, which is another
advantage of this location.
To illustrate the role and involvement of different players in this complex project in a
concise way, several different scenarios with variable competences were developed.
Additionally, the basic essentials for a future business-plan have been compiled. The
calculations show that a positive cash flow within the first six years can only be
achieved with a production of more than 200 t/yr of fresh stones and the sale of
almost all produced goods. A small plant with a capacity of 150t and only 90% sales
would only make approx. 350.000 " p.a., with expenses of more than 400.000 " (an
estimated 50.000 of which are instalment purchase costs for upgrades of machinery)
