česká města ležící na řece patří Cheb, Sokolov, Loket nad Ohří, Karlovy Vary,
Ostrov nad Ohří, Klášterec nad Ohří, Kadaň, Žatec, Louny, Libochovice, Budyně
nad Ohří, Terezín a Litoměřice. Řeka je zdrojem vody pro mnoho průmyslových
areálů. Vodácky nejvyhledávanější je úsek Loket - Vojkovice s celou řadou vodácky
a turisticky atraktivních míst. Dolní část řeky Ohře se zformovala až během
čtvrtohor. Původně Ohře tekla údolím dnešní řeky Bíliny. Tok řeky při ústí
do Labe byl z důvodu výstavby vodního opevnění města Terezín (v roce 1780)
převeden do nového řečiště.
V této části na úseku
v délce 2,5 km bude vůbec
poprvé v historii zprovozněna
osobní lodní doprava
a Terezín se stane přístavním
městem.
The River Elbe
Length 1154 km, basin 144 055 km², average discharge (in the
Czech Republic.) 308 m³/s.
Labe (in German Elbe) is the most important Czech river and is one
of the largest waterways in Europe. It has its source in the Krkonoše
Mountains in the north of the Czech Republic, carries through Germany
and flows into the North Sea. It is nearly the only Czech river whose
name does not carry a feminine gender. At the confluence with the
Vltava it has a lower discharge and has a shorter length from its source
but is still not looked at as Vltava’s tributary. The river was given its
name by the Celts, who settled along it in ancient times. The original
Celtic word ‚elb‘ meant „big river“. In ancient times there was a mention
The Elbe has its source on Labská meadow
in Krkonoše (1386 m n.)
of the river being named Albis which means white, light, clear. On the stream of the river there are two dams; dam
Labská by Špindlerův Mlýn (total size 27 ha) and dam Les Království by Dvůr Králové n.L. (total size 85 ha). Among
the most important Czech cities and towns situated on the Elbe are Špindlerův Mlýn, Vrchlabí, Hostinné, Dvůr Králové
nad Labem, Jaroměř, Hradec Králové, Pardubice, Přelouč, Kolín, Poděbrady, Nymburk, Lysá nad Labem, Čelákovice,
Brandýs nad Labem - Stará Boleslav, Neratovice, Mělník, Štětí, Roudnice nad Labem, Litoměřice, Lovosice, Ústí nad
Labem, Děčín. Regarding water transport, the river is navigable from its mouth to the North Sea to Přelouč. This
way the length makes 950 km. At this time it is in the phase of preparation to lengthen its navigability by a further
24 km to Pardubice. The Elbe is the only Czech water junction which joins other European waterways. On the basis
of the sailing act from 1821 the river stream starting in Mělník going up to the mouth of the river was declared for
an international waterway with a free access for watercrafts of all nationalities. The Elbe is the only Czech waterway
connected with the sea and therefore it serves as an international junction connecting to the whole world. Because
of this, it is possible to export and import goods to the Czech Republic without having to pay extra transport charges
The Elbe in the Hamburg harbour.
given by foreign countries whose height the Czech Republic could not influence. Due to its existence, the navigation
on the Elbe functions as a price regulator of Czech import and export trade. This has a positive impact on competitiveness
of the Czech economy on the market. As a result of a sharp change of the slope of the river bed by Dolní Žleb
near Děčín, this regulated part of the river has far worsened sailing conditions than seen in the rest of the stream. For
a radical development of water transport it is necessary to deepen the river bed by two degrees in this place to make
the navigability possible throughout the whole year.
Interesting information about the Elbe on the Czech territory:
• Number of bridges across the river: 112 • The number of inhabitants living in the Elba‘s vicinity: around 680 000
• The newest bridge: the bridge of general Chábera • The number of ferries: 5
