LIEBE LESERIN, LIEBER LESER,
unserem Vertriebspartner STM Slovakia Trailer verkaufen.
DEAR READERS,
“Highest quality, state of the art, and competitively priced” - are the
basic principles that we follow to develop our products. We want to
offer top products to our customers, and therefore rely mainly on one
principle: quality. Quality is one of the reasons why Krone choose to
weld their trailer parts. The process of welding produces the best possible
bond between the individual parts. One of our most important welding
plants is situated in Slovakia. It is here that we ensure our quality
standards are implemented without any “ifs or buts”. On page 16 you
can read how we successfully sell trailers in conjunction with our
sales partner STM Slovakia. Here, too, the high quality of our vehicles
comes into play. But we do not allow ourselves to rest on our laurels,
with our newest Box Liner, we offer a multifunctional sled chassis. The
prototype can be seen in this year's IAA in Hanover. Read more about
the new sled chassis in the present issue of “trailerforum”. We hope
you enjoy reading this issue!
besser machen?“, blickt Gerhard Papenbrock,
Bereichsleiter Konstruktion und Entwicklung bei
KRONE, zurück. Natürlich flossen auch die Erfahrungen
und Wünsche des belgischen Spediteurs in
das neue Konzept ein.
IM TEST: PROTOTYP MIT TAUFNAMEN BOX LINER
Keine sechs Monate später steht der neue Schlitten
bereit.
Hauptanforderungen an heutige Sled-Chassis zusammen.
zudem erstaunlich einfach, was wiederum neue
in Spelle schöpfen.
Is quick and uncomplicated: setting the twistlocks at the front
geführten Kabel an den neuralgischen Punkten gegen
Aufscheuern.
DURCHDACHT KONSTRUIERT
Hinten befindet sich der rollengelagerte Zentralschub,
dessen Führung über einer extrem stabilen
Aramidplatte verläuft. Erst bei aufgesetztem
Container liegt der Zentralausschub satt auf. Zwei
erhalten, denn letztere Variante scheuert
Kunden. Aber der setzt zunächst einmal sein altes
Chassis wieder ein.
// Until the mid-1990s, KRONE built sled chassis; at
that time, however, the lacking demand caused the
company to abandon this former “niche”. Precise
inquiries of customers specialised in container
transport induced the Lower Saxon company now to
slogan: Innovative, but as simple as possible in
handling. “Finally not all drivers want to read a
voluminous manual before starting”, KRONE
Manager Uwe Sasse comes to the point of user
requirements. In November, prior to starting
development, the engineers had an old container
chassis from Belgium delivered – built in 1995 and
still in operation. “We thoroughly inspected this
chassis and asked ourselves: what can we do
better?” Gerhard Papenbrock, KRONE Division
Manager Design & Development, looks back.
Naturally, experiences and wishes of the Belgian
forwarder were also included in the new concept.
TRIED AND TESTED: THE PROTOTYPE BAPTISED
BOX LINER
Hardly six months later the new sled is ready.
Named Box Liner ELTU6, the prototype waits for
testing to show whether it can really meet the high
demands. The driver does not need to pull a lot of
levers to load the box. For this can be done in a
simple effective way: The pre-selection of the
container and the entire control are done via an
electronic menu which is “served” by a display with
just four keys. The chassis can receive twenty to
forty-five feet containers as well as two twenty
feet containers. Choosing the “20´´” key and the Einen Zwanzig-Fuß-Container mittig transportieren ...
Transporting a twenty feet container centred …
“motorway” symbol and confirming both means: loading
a twenty feet container in driving position. A
lorry with a direction indicator to the front is shown
on the display - the command for the driver to board
the truck and to drive it forward to the latching
point. The braked axles of the chassis operate against
it. Sharp beeping accompanies the conversion procedure
as a warning signal. The sled chassis is ready to
receive load. And the preparation can be accomplished
intuitively. For possible emergencies, KRONE also
provided an “EMERGENCY STOP” button on the computer
box.
The next step for the driver is to position the revised
twistlocks, and the box is put on top. Pull away, secure
the container, and all is ready to start. When it has
finally arrived at the customer, the sled really goes
strong: Touch the “20´´” key and “rear”, the “forklift
truck” appears in the display. Confirm and wait for
the “truck” to reappear. Board quickly, shift back to the
latching point, and rear-flush unloading can begin.
8 trailerforum 2/2008
... and unloading it rear-flush – these are exactly the high demands that forwarders make when working with the sled chassis.
INSPIRED BY AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY
“For a forwarder, the essential is that a twenty feet
container can be transported centred and unloaded
rear-flush”, Papenbrock summarises the major requirements
of today's sled chassis. And these are competently
met by the prototype, without any doubt. The electronic
system used renders the entire system surprisingly
simple - thus setting new standards. The computeraided
control system, however, had not to be invented
by the engineers; they could use the rich fund in Spelle.
“For our colleagues from agricultural machinery also
use this technology”, Sasse betrays. The Technical
Manager thinks, however, that technical perfection has
not yet been reached; there are a few small details that
still bother him: For example he thinks that the actuation
arrow in the display is too small, it should be more
easily visible in his opinion.
The high-tech chassis is very impressive, and the constructional
details are right, too. The brake cylinders,
for example, are situated high above the BPW axles.
Thus there is no risk to lose them somewhere in a har-
bour e.g. through cutting them off. A bulky bumper protects
the rear lights, which are also available as LEDs.
The neck is made up of three bars, the centre bar is welded
on both sides, and the outer ones have one weld
seam. The design through to the landing leg winches
has been taken unchanged from the Box Liner kit. Only
the front extension shows modifications for a better
protection of power and air receptacles. Rubber straps
secure the neatly guided cables at the sensitive points
against scouring.
SOPHISTICATED DESIGN
At the rear is the roller-bearing central extension, the
guiding of which is located above an extremely stable
aramid plate. The central extension is seated solidly
only when the container was put on top. Two
segmented shells serve as mudguards.
Suspended here, a rubber mat covers the wheel. This
“thin” solution was preferred to half shells as the latter
are quickly worn in every-day container work. The
side limit lamps are concealed under solid metal
TITELTHEMA | FEATURE TOPIC
beams. The front lights are dislocated very much to the
back.
EYE-CATCHER ON THE IAA 2008
The prototype starts into day-to-day operation at the
customer's in July. On the IAA 2008 in Hanover in
autumn, visitors will see a Box Liner eLTU6 with
details that have already been optimised. If somebody
prefers to do without luxury and fully-automatic
operation, the purely mechanical solution certainly
will please him. This variant reduces the weight of
5,820 kg by another 50 kg. Sasse and Papenbrock
think that KRONE will be able to sell more than 250
units of the chassis per year. Perhaps the Belgian
forwarder also is one of the customers. But first he
continues to use his “old” chassis again.
Correctly positioned and secured: and now ready to start.
vorsehen. Wer seine Fracht pünktlich liefern will,
muss ausgeruht am Steuer sitzen. Leichter gesagt als
getan.
10 trailerforum 2/2008
Fotos: ADAC, auto-reporter.net
85 Prozent Zuwachs bis 2025 – verstärkt den Stellplatzmangel.
Laut Studie der Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen
sind nachts Parkplätze bis zu 270 Prozent überbelegt.
In Deutschland gibt es rund 21.000 Lkw-Stellplätze an
Rastanlagen und weitere 18.500 Stellplätze an Autohöfen.
Experten sagen, schon heute sei die doppelte Zahl nötig.
Bis 2015 sollen an den Autobahnen 11.000 neue Lkw-
Parkplätze gebaut werden. Dafür stelle der Bund 250 Millionen
Euro zur Verfügung. Bundesminister Wolfgang Tiefensee
Raststätte Aichen in Baden-Württemberg.
// “Every second trucker admits that he already dozed
off driving”, road security advisor Christoph Becker of
the Münster police department knows. “On the
motorways in our monitoring area alone, 25 lorry
drivers caused serious accidents due to fatigue last
year.” Throughout Germany, about 4 billion Euro are
calculated as consequential costs of accidents caused
by exhausted drivers. Experts see the reasons for this in
wrong nutrition, lacking exercise and stress. Regular
breaks are indispensable – as provided in the
regulations for driving and rest periods. Who wants to
deliver his cargo in time must be fit at the wheel. But
that's easier said than done. For the dramatic increase
in freight traffic on German motorways – it is spoken
of 85 percent increase until 2025 – will aggravate the
parking space shortage. According to a study of the
Federal Highway Research Institute, parking sites are
overstaffed at night by up to 270 percent.
In Germany, there are about 21,000 lorry parking sites on
service areas and another 18,500 sites on truck stops.
Experts say that even today twice
as much would be needed. Until
2015, 11,000 new lorry parking sites
shall be built along the motorways.
In Aichen steuert eine Elektronik-Anlage
die Zufahrt zu den Parkplätzen.
In Aichen, an electronic installation
controls the access to the parking sites.
The Federal Government
makes 250
million Euro available
for this. Federal
Minister Wolfgang
Tiefensee lately had
a discussion with
drivers. His conclusion:
“Lorry drivers
do a hard job.They
have to deliver their
freight in time and
UNTERWEGS | ON THE ROAD
Auf vielen Rastplätzen wird künftig reguliert,
wie viele Lkw reindürfen.
On many service areas, it will be controlled in
future how many vehicles are granted access.
are exposed to enormous stress. It is all the more important
that they are always fit and rested at the wheel.”
Since October 2007, a “task force” in the Federal Ministry
of Transport, Building, and Urban Development deals
with the topic “Motorway parking sites for lorries”. One
project is related to the expansion of modern guiding systems,
which result in a more efficient utilization of the
available parking sites.
DOUBLING CAPACITIES
The example “Montabaur” shows how to double the
capacity of a lorry parking site. The federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate
conducted a pilot project on the service
area on motorway A3. Parking lots and driving
tracks were re-arranged, so that to five trucks can park
one behind the other. A terminal with barrier and a new
software help to monitor the occupation and recommend
the optimum parking site for every vehicle. Another
example: Since April 2008, a pilot installation has
controlled the motorway service area Aichen in Baden-
Württemberg. To assist lorry drivers on the A8 near Ulm-
Merklingen in finding a parking space, traffic planners
developed an automatic system which informs about
free parking spaces via dynamic traffic signs before the
motorway exit. And which thus helps to save time. At the
end of the day: rest period!
Fährst Du schon oder
schraubst Du noch?
Do you already drive or are you still screwing?
Nein.
Also schweißen
wir dort.
VIELEN DANK FÜR DAS INTERVIEW!
// WHY DOES KRONE RELY ON WELDING AND NOT
ON SCREW CONNECTIONS?
We weld our components because this still is the best possible
connection established between the individual
parts. Main supports as well as the head plate of the
transverse beams are welded by our competitors, too. But
together with the screws, this makes the chassis weigh
up to 300 kilograms more. All manufacturers who use
screws galvanize their parts. Which is done individually.
We, however, just need one single working step or process
to coat our vehicles with cataphoretic painting plus
powder.
HOW MUCH WELDING WORK IS TAKEN OVER BY THE
TOMARK PLANT (SLOVAKIA)?
About forty percent of the standard chassis components
are welded in Slovakia. Although transport costs must be
added to the manufacturing costs involved in Slovakia,
we can realise manufacturing costs in line with the market
in the scope of a mixed calculation. This only functions,
however, due to our quality standards, which are
implemented in Slovakia, too, without any “ifs and buts”.
HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE THAT THE WELDING
QUALITY IS RIGHT?
KRONE has had welding work done in Slovakia for
about 15 years. From the beginning, we paid much
attention to the fact that our quality requirements not
only were guidelines for orientation, but fixed targets.
Today, all plants in Slovakia have obtained the
corresponding certificates for welding. We keep
standards high at any time by carrying out training
programmes, which, of course, are also kept by our
quality assurance.
DID ROBOTS REPLACE THE GOOD OLD HUMAN
WELDER COMPLETELY?
No. It depends on the subassemblies which procedure will
be right. The ratio between manual and automatic welding
currently is about fifty-fifty. Apart from many other
factors, it depends on the degree of standardisation of
the subassemblies.
THE PRICES FOR STEEL CONTINUE SOARING. BUT
WHO WANTS TO MAINTAIN QUALITY DOES NOT
HAVE A CHOICE, DOES HE?
We anticipate that the price for one ton of steel will
exceed the 200 Euro limit. For our chassis we can only utilize
the high-price material, as the steel must meet certain
requirements regarding deflection, stress, elastic limits,
and weldability.
THE CHASSIS MUST BE VERY STURDY. DOES WELDING
REDUCE THE LOAD CAPACITY COMPARED TO SCREW
CONNECTIONS?
On the contrary. Welding not only is a weight- and costoptimised,
but also a load-optimised procedure. A screw
connection is exposed to punctual loads around the bolt
head, a weld seam absorbs the load in two dimensions.
On the other hand, we are not entirely against bolts. For
example, we prefer bolt connections for wear parts in
order to ensure an easy replacement. A container beam,
however, will never be replaced. So we weld there.
Verkaufsbüros für Trailer, Nfz-Werkstätten und Ersatzteillager;
in Nové Mesto und Banská Bystrica Verkaufsbüros
für Trailer und Ersatzteillager.Verkaufsleiter Ladislav
Gális nennt eine weitere Stärke seiner Organisation: „Wir
haben klar abgesteckte Aufgaben- und Verkaufsgebiete;

// Our target is the top position among the suppliers of
trailers in Slovakia”, says Milan Pagacˇ, Head of
Marketing of KRONE’s partner STM in Senec near
Bratislava. The company STM was founded in 1991 by
Jan David. From its headquarters in Senec, David
manages two divisions: STM Trailers deals with the
sale of semitrailers and trailers, STM Trucks is the
contractual partner of DAF and offers trucks and
workshop services around this commercial vehicle
brand.
LONG ESTABLISHED IN THE COUNTRY
Since June 2007, STM Trailers has been responsible for selling
the whole product range of KRONE vehicles in Slova-
kia. And the company sets itself ambitious targets, Executive
Director Kvestoslav Boltizˇiar self-confidently explains:
“No other supplier of trailers in Slovakia has a service network
all over the country with efficient workshops, highly
qualified staff, and comprehensive spare parts supplies.”
In Senec near Bratislava (Southwest), Zǐlina (Northwest),
Kosˇice (East) and Sǔrani (South), STM disposes of sales
offices for trailers, commercial vehicle workshops and
spare parts stores; in Nové Mesto and Banská Bystrica
there are sales offices for trailers and spare parts stores.
Sales Manager Ladislav Gális names another strong point
of his organisation: “We have clearly determined tasks and
sales areas; thus our salesmen have a close contact to their
customers, due to the vicinity of their respective sales
offices. Our principle is: sales on site." In 2007, the overall
Slovak market amounted to 3,440 trailers. Head of Marketing
Pagacˇ makes up the balance: “In 2004, KRONE had a
market share of seven percent, with just more than 100
registered units, three years later the figure amounted to
nearly 600 units.”According to Milan Pagač, the reason for
this not only it the close service and sales network:
“KRONE offers a premium product, hurried ahead by an
excellent international reputation. Our customers mainly
work on international relations – from Siberia through to
the Atlantic Ocean. Therefore a sophisticated design and
absolutely perfect workmanship are indispensable.”
60 PERCENT PROFI LINERS
According to Pagacˇ, 60 percent of the sold KRONE vehicles
are curtainsiders, i.e. Profi Liners: “These vehicles can
be used most flexibly by our forwarders.” STM’s strategy
proves to be successful. In the first quarter of 2008, the
company caught up with its two severest competitors, selling
nearly 150 units. The target to obtain and consolidate
20 percent market share has been realised by this. With
such a motivated team, the next target – to obtain the
market leadership in Slovakia for STM and KRONE –
certainly will not just be a promise.
SERVICEPARTNER | SERVICE PARTNER
Der Servicegedanke –
stetige Erreichbarkeit
für Kunden – steht bei
STM an erster Stelle.
Commitment to
service – permanent
customers – is top
priority for STM.
Slowakei. Der Marktanteil wuchs auf fast 20 Prozent.
KRONE and STM Slovakia are selling more and more trailers in
Fahrermangel herrscht längst auch in den MOE-Staaten.
Speditionen wie VIREM in Trenčin suchen händeringend
westeuropäischem Niveau an.
Miroslav Beták hat die VIREM Spedition vor fünf Jahren
setzt das Unternehmen ein. „Der Fahrermangel
hemmt die Entwicklung des Transportgewerbes“, befürchtet
Spediteur Beták. Schon seit seiner Gründung ist
VIREM Kunde vom slowakischen KRONE-Vertriebspartner
verantwortlich: „Die sollten schon einige Jahre
an. Allerdings kommen selten über 12.000 Kilometer im
Monat zusammen.
weiteres starkes Wirtschaftswachstum: „Die
verteilen.“
HÄNDLERNETZ UND SERVICE ENTSCHEIDET
2008 will er sein Unternehmen nach dem rasanten
Wachstum erst einmal konsolidieren.
Werkstatt. Deshalb kommt es auch bei KRONE
darauf an, welche Serviceleistung „dahintersteckt“.
gefunden.“
tractors and some more semitrailers are running for
the company. “The lack of drivers inhibits the
Beták fears. Since its foundation, VIREM has been
customer of the Slovak KRONE sales partner STM in
Senec near Bratislava and buys all trailers and many
trucks there.
“For KRONE offers a set of advantages. The quality is
very good, the superstructure design is sophisticated
and the entire workmanship is excellent. In addition,
our supplier STM has a good service network with
skilled mechanics and a wide range of spare parts”,
Jaroslav Dorcˇák, Technical Manager of VIREM, explains.
In addition, the company concludes a service contract
with STM for each vehicle. Furthermore, Dorčák is
also responsible for recruiting drivers: “They should
have some years of professional experience. They
then have to pass a written test and a test drive
accompanied by me.” Payment on the basis of
kilometres attracts applicants. However, there are
hardly more than 12,000 km a month. The drivers
are “on the road” for three weeks and have then one
employs 120 drivers.
trailers.
FREIGHT RATES AS IN WESTERN EUROPE
“We drive for the same rates as the Western European
companies and provide the same quality”, the technical
manager accentuates. But since Romania and Bulgaria
joined the EU, the pricing pressure has enormously
increased. Thus reliable customers are all the more
important.Transports for the automotive industry
account for an important share of the business. For this,
VIREM uses 38 Megatrailers with an interior height of
3 m, furthermore curtainsiders as the Profi Liner with an
interior height of 2.70 m.
Manager Miroslav Beták, who just returned from Moscow,
sees great chances for his company mainly in Russia.
He therefore founded a branch office there. In the EU
countries, on the other hand, he is afraid of “at least stagnation,
if not even recession – mainly for consumption”
in the near future. In contrast to that, he expects a further
strong economic growth in Russia and its neighbouring
countries: “The entire Eurasian region through to
Siberia and to the countries south of Russia is experiencing
a roaring evolution. In 2007, Azerbaijan had a
growth of 25 percent! Crude oil and gas, this will result in
enormous transport requirements.” Beták strives for an
increase of the Russian share to 25 to 30 percent: “I thus
want to divide the risk among several pillars.”
DISTRIBUTOR NETWORK AND SERVICE ARE DECISIVE
In 2008, he wants to consolidate his company after its
rapid growth. But he thinks that then a further growth to
even 200 to 300 trains would be possible. For this, decisions
must been taken about new investments in the fleet,
too. But which manufacturers will be awarded? Beták
explains: “We are collecting information on the entire
market. The differences between the different brands are
not very large, however. What is important is the retail
network as well as the quality of the individual retailer
and of his workshop. Therefore, it will be important for
KRONE, too, which services are “behind it”. I think this
will account for 70 percent of the decision. As a matter of
fact, we already found capable and reliable partners and
premium products with STM and KRONE.”
Worauf Fahrer vorbereitet sein müssen
What drivers must be prepared for
Ausbildungspflicht. Diese umfasst mindestens 140 Stunden je
60 Minuten, davon 10 Ausbildungsstunden von jeweils 60 Minuten
Praxis. Anschließend erfolgt eine Theorieprüfung vor der zuständigen
IHK.
// From 10th September 2008, the Professional Drivers’ Qualification
Law (BKrFQG) obligates all professional drivers acquiring a driving
licence for a bus or truck to acquire a so-called “basic qualification”.
(Anyone who has acquired his driving licence before that date,
must not obtain this basic qualification. He only has to attend an
advanced training course.) The basic qualification can be obtained
by a driver in several ways:
● Through a three-year professional driver’s formation in a corresponding
company.
● Through a considerably demanding theoretical and practical
exam passed with a responsible German CCI.
● Through a co-called “accelerated” basic qualification with training
obligation. This qualification comprises at least 140 lessons
of 60 minutes each, 10 of them are lessons of 60 minutes each in
practice. After that, the theoretical exam is passed with the
responsible CCI.
inzwischen sehr anspruchsvollen Joballtag besser wappnen.
Bereits tätige Chauffeure will
// More than ten years ago, KRONE founded the “Drivers’
Club”. Under the slogan “All for one and one for all” the
target is to support the professional drivers’ community
and to improve the public image of this profession. The
same target is aimed at by the EU through the Professional
Drivers’ Qualification Law (BKrFQG): Through a corresponding
training and advanced training, professional
drivers shall prepare for their very demanding job in a
better way. This mainly concerns more safety and – as the
name already indicates – more basic qualifications of the
drivers. KRONE takes the new law as a reason for starting
the campaign „Training and advanced training initiative”
to support young drivers in their professional start.
Drivers already ‘on the job’ shall be informed about the
necessary advanced training: Around the job, knowledge
shall be imparted by attractive actions in the magazines
DRIVER (KRONE's Club magazine) and TRUCKER (trade
magazine by Vogel-Verlag) as well as on the KRONE homepage
in the internet.
Above all, however, the training and
advanced training initiative shall
also provide fun: Parallel to the contents
of the BKrFQG, campaigns are
started in the internet and in the
“... because I got to know in
this way that the morning
Maik Wiemann will als Lkw-
Fahrer nicht nur „bloß“ seine
Familie ernähren, sondern in
diesem Beruf auch glücklich
werden – bis dato mit Erfolg.
Maik Wiemann not only wants
to “feed” his family as a truck
driver, but also to become happy
with his job – up to now with
success.
magazines. Currently, readers and interested people can
get in touch and explain their reasons for becoming a
professional driver – the campaign is put under the slogan:
“Dream job driver”. Dozens of drivers (male and
female) already participated in the campaign, who
found their dream job for different reasons or still hope
to find it.
WHY DRIVE A TRUCK …?
Mario Hörteis from Kulmbach says: “I became a professional
driver ... because this job is really varied and you
always come in contact with (nearly always) friendly
people. Sven Geffke from Bielefeld says: “... because my father
was a truck driver for 30 years and I wanted to follow
in his footsteps. I just love the job!”This is similar with
Denny Waldorf from Zemmer, who keeps the family tradition
up. Driving is his dream job,“… because there is nothing
more lovely than to be on the European roads with
your tractor-semitrailer train! My father, both grandfathers
and my uncle were and are professional drivers,
I sort of grew up in the truck and now I will start my
training to become a professional driver in August.”
Against popular stereotypes, it were
not only men that answered. So Marion
Kopp from Mainbernheim explains:
“I became a professional driver because
I often accompanied my boyfriend and
learned a lot by this.” For Daphne Pfeuffer
it is a family business. The woman from Stuttgart:
„... because I always liked to be with daddy when I was a
young girl, and now I made my passion become my profession.”
Sebastian Glasing from Erfurt cites practical reasons
for his career choice. He became a professional driver
“… because truck drivers always find an employment”, as
he says. Oliver Glück from Lauffen even gives a nearly philosophical
answer when he says: “I became a professional
driver because I got to know in this way only that the
morning breeze smells different throughout Europe.”
// Two Profi Liners under continuous supervision: Will the trailer with or
VON KAI KALBITZ
Vor über zwölf Monaten startete die Spedition
Hamprecht den Dauertest zwischen zwei exakt
gleich konfigurierten Profi Linern („trailerforum“
”We move things!”
Schon seit 88 Jahren fährt die Familie Hamprecht
gut mit ihrer Spedition in Künzelsau-Kemmeten
zwischen Stuttgart und Frankfurt am Main.
Begonnen hat Georg Hamprecht im Jahr 1920
noch mit Pferden, heute stehen unter anderem
15 Sattelauflieger, 15 Wechselbrückenzüge und
60 Wechselbrücken im Fuhrpark des Spediteurs.
Hamprechts Motto lautet: „Mit uns bewegt sich
was!“ – www.hamprecht-spedition.de
// For 88 years, the forwarding company of the
Hamprecht family has been doing well in
Künzelsau-Kemmeten between Stuttgart and
Frankfurt/Main. In 1920, Georg Hamprecht
started with horses; today, 15 semitrailers,
15 swap bridge trains, and 60 swap bridges are,
among others, part of the fleet. Hamprecht’s
slogan is: “We move things!”
übersichtlich aus. Ein „kleines Birnchen“ der hinteren
Spurleuchte gab bei 90.736 Kilometern den Dienst auf. Der
Ersatz kostete 0,78 Euro. Zudem musste Ess vier Mal
lief jedoch alles bestens. Bis zum Kilometerstand von
circa 110.000: Infolge eines Steinschlags riss der Halter
des Federspeichers an der dritten Achse. Der Schaden ließ
sich in Frankreich notdürftig reparieren. In Deutschland
Forwarder Rolf Hamprecht and two of his drivers Andreas Ess
(left) and Karl Rapp (right) thoroughly inspected the trailers.
unterm Auto durchgehen muss“.
In
puncto Reifenverschleiß nehmen sich die Trailer nichts.
Die Bremskraft überzeugte beide Fahrer. Zählt man alle
Allerdings
wartet der Profi Liner in der Standardausführung
ebenfalls mit einer hohen Qualität auf. Für die ersten
150.000 Kilometer lohnt es kaum, das Rundum-sorglos-
Paket draufzusatteln. Noch hat keiner den anderen abhängen
können. Die Entscheidung fällt wohl erst über längere
Distanzen.
// More than twelve months ago, the forwarding
company Hamprecht started the long-term test
between two exactly identical Profi Liners
(”trailerforum” reported in the September issue 2007).
Both trailers are connected to an Actros tractor when
they are driven through France on nearly identical
routes, carrying piece goods. One has got the KRONE
longlife package, the other has not.
Rolf Hamprecht, Manager of the forwarding
company, is mainly interested in: When does the
Urteil des Fachmanns: Bei der Beleuchtung schneidet der KRONE-
Trailer mit Longlife besser ab.
The expert’s judgement: Concerning lighting, the KRONE trailer
with longlife is better.
price surplus of 1,499 Euro for the “perfect no-worry
package” – promising maintenance freedom for four
years without any limitation of kilometres – pay?
TIME FOR AN INTERIM RESULT
When the trailers had run for 150,000 km, a first conclusion
was drawn during a stop at the company
headquarters in Künzelsau in April. The drivers Andreas
Ess, driving the standard curtainsider, and Karl
Rapp, driving the longlife trailer, were both very satisfied
with the overall quality. The costs for the standard
trailer were very clear. A small bulb in the rear track
light failed at 90,736 km.The spare part price amounted
to 0.78 Euro. In addition, Ess had to lubricate four
times, which was calculated by his boss with 10 Euro
each time. The Profi Liner Longlife could not start until
the basic module had been re-programmed.The tractor
had not recognized the LEDs.The price for this was
198.33 Euro. On the very first stop in France, the tracking
lights were missing. But after the theft all went at
its best. Until a mileage of about 110,000 km: due to flying
stones, the bracket of the spring storage on the
third axle disrupted. The damage could be provisionally
repaired in France. In Germany, the final repair was
carried out by “Bremsen Schneider” in Pfedelbach –
a BPW goodwill deal. For Hamprecht, the advantage of
the longlife package is “that the driver no longer has to
check the vehicle from below”.The Profi Liner driver,
however, is obliged to inspect the train from below
every few weeks and to lubricate it. Even for the
lighting, the longlife truck is better, so the forwarder
says. Where tyre wear is concerned, the trailers are
nearly identical. Braking power convinces both drivers.
If all items are taken together, a forwarder can be more
at rest with longlife – the interim result of Mr. Hamprecht
- in particular if rather insensitive drivers are at
the wheel. The Profi Liner in standard execution, however,
also is of high quality. For the first 150,000 km it is
nearly futile to buy the ”perfect no-worry package”.
Both trucks still are side by side. The palm will probably
be won only after longer distances.
Was sind die Life-Cycle-Costs?
What are the life cycle costs?
Die Lebenszykluskosten (LZK, engl.: „life-cyclecosts“)
bezeichnen die totalen Kosten eines
Produkts während seiner gesamten Lebensdauer.
Sie schließen auch die in anderen Unternehmensbereichen
ausgelösten Kosten mit ein. LZK helfen,
die Attraktivität von Projekten zu beurteilen. Bei
einem Lkw minimieren vor allem ein niedriger
Verbrauch, ein umweltfreundlicher Antrieb sowie
eine hohe Qualität von Fahrzeug, Trailer und
Ausstattung wie Reifen die LZK.
// The life cycle costs (LCC) are the total costs of a
product during its entire service life. They also
include the costs involved in other company
divisions. Life cycle costs help to judge the
attractiveness of projects. Taking a truck, mainly
low fuel consumption, an eco-friendly drive and
the high quality of vehicle, trailer, and equipment
as e.g. tyres minimise the life cycle costs.
TYRE CHOICE? THE CUSTOMER HAS A SAY
The savings capacity of premium commercial vehicle
tyres was exemplified by the French tyre manufacturer
Michelin. Tests in the presence of journalists showed
how tyres with a low rolling resistance measurably save
fuel and thus contribute to reduce operating costs as
well as pollution. Here, the Michelin A2 Energy tyres
with a low rolling resistance saved exactly 1.7 litres per
one hundred kilometres. For KRONE as the leading
manufacturer of commercial vehicles, these performance
demonstrations of its suppliers are of great
importance. “In the end, we can constitute and
guarantee the top level of our vehicles only with proven
premium products”, Gero Schulze Isfort, Manager Sales
& Marketing of the traditional company from Werlte,
says. Therefore, customers may choose exactly what
tyres they want to be mounted in the first equipment of
their selected trailer when ordering it. Mainly the wellknown
premium brands Michelin, Conti, Dunlop, Fulda,
Am falschen Ende
Reifenpannen sind
Wrong savings –
punctures are
dangerous and
expensive.
Goodyear, and Pirelli are chosen here. Also second labels
of the leading companies may be a choice, but one
thing is impossible: “Chinese tyre products are not compatible
with our requirements for quality and reliability”,
Uwe Sasse, Technical Manager of KRONE, says.
NO CHINA TYRES – GUARANTEED
Even in times of highest demand for KRONE trailers
with high cost and price pressure, the company from
Werlte remains consistent: “We do not even supply
China tyres at additional charges”, Schulze Isfort makes
a joke. If tyres are in short supply for trailer production,
the KRONE managers prefer to discuss and cooperate
with their usual suppliers. With success: “Suppliers like
Michelin somehow always find a way to bail us out
with an extra help portion of tyres”, Schulze Isfort
reports recent experiences. Good for KRONE customers:
TECHNIK | TECHNOLOGY
Die Physik der Reifen
Tyre physics
// It is very simple: The higher the rolling resistance,
the higher the energy losses through the tyres rolling
on the road surface. The consequence: Tyres with a
low rolling resistance save fuel and the environment.
Up to five percent of fuel can be saved when your car
is rolling on the “right” tyres – according to the
Federal Environmental Agency, which therefore
awards its environmental label “Blue Angel” to lownoise
and fuel-saving tyres. For trucks, too, a lot can
be saved with new tyres: saving up to 1.5 litres fuel
for 100 km is always possible.
Drei Fragen an Michael Kubenz, Präsident des DSLV*, zum
aktuellen Thema Fahrermangel.
// Three question put to Michael Kubenz, President of DSLV*, about the current
“lack of drivers”.
Fahrer fehlen. Unternehmen stellen Fahrzeugkäufe zurück,
weil sie kein geeignetes Personal haben.
WAS TUN SPEDITEURE UND TRANSPORTEURE, UM
QUALIFIZIERTEN NACHWUCHS ZU SICHERN UND WIE
UNTERSTÜTZT DER DSLV SOLCHE INITIATIVEN?
Transport- und Logistikunternehmen haben im vergangenen
Schuljahr so viele angehende Berufskraftfahrer
wie noch nie eingestellt. Bundesweit wurden nach
Angaben des Deutschen Industrie- und Handelskammertages
1.838 neue Ausbildungsverträge abgeschlossen:
doppelt so viele wie im Vorjahr. Oft haben
Unternehmen aber keine Möglichkeit, selbst auszu-
bilden.
Ausbildungsinitiativen gestartet. Der DSLV hat 2007 mit
der Arbeitsagentur Köln ein regionales Pilotprojekt
initiiert, in dem arbeitslose Fahrer in einer
Weiterbildung qualifiziert und mit potenziellen
Arbeitgebern zusammengebracht werden.
WIE SIEHT DER VERBAND LANGFRISTIG DIE LÖSUNG
DES PROBLEMS FAHRERNACHWUCHS?
Gegen den Fahrermangel werden nur nachhaltige Personalstrategien
greifen: Ausbildung, Nachwuchsförderung
und Weiterbildung. Außerdem ist es wichtig, Informationsdefizite
abzubauen: Soll der Beruf des Kraftfahrers für
Berufseinsteiger attraktiv sein, müssen die Rahmenbedingungen
und das Image verbessert werden. Deshalb will
betreiben.
VIELEN DANK FÜR DAS GESPRÄCH!
// WHAT DOES THE BUSINESS THINK ABOUT THE
POTENTIAL OF YOUNG PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS AND WHAT
ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE SHORTAGE OF DRIVERS?
More than 50,000 qualified drivers will be lacking in the next
few years in the forwarding and logistics business. There are
3 FRAGEN AN ... | 3 QUESTIONS TO ...
many reasons for that: the increasing demand for
transports, new social regulations and the demographic
change. A good 30 percent of about 740,000
drivers (male and female) are aged over 50; in 2006,
only 2.5 percent were aged under 25. Meanwhile, the
lack of drivers acts as an obstacle to growth.Vehicles
must stand still and freight cannot be transported because there
are no drivers available. Companies postpone the purchase of
new vehicles because they do not have qualified personnel.
WHAT DO FORWARDERS AND CARRIERS DO TO ENSURE
THAT QUALIFIED YOUNG DRIVERS ARE TRAINED AND HOW
DOES DSLV SUPPORT SUCH INITIATIVES?
In the past school year, transport and logistics companies
hired more professional drivers as never before. According
to the German Association of Chambers of Commerce and
Industry, 1,838 new training contracts were concluded
throughout Germany: twice as many as the year before. But
companies often are not able to train their drivers themselves.
For them, training in associations can be a way out. In many
regions, common training initiatives have successfully been
started. In 2007, DSLV together with the Cologne employment
office initiated a regional project for qualifying jobless drivers
through advanced training and for establishing contacts to
prospective employers.
WHAT DO FORWARDERS AND CARRIERS DO TO SECURE
THE SUPPLY OF QUALIFIED YOUNG DRIVERS AND HOW
DOES YOUR ASSOCIATION SEE THE LONG-TERM SOLUTION
OF THE SHORTAGE OF YOUNG DRIVERS?
Only sustainable strategies will be successful against the lack
of drivers: training, promotion of young professionals, and
advanced training. Furthermore it is important to reduce
information deficits: If the job as a professional driver shall be
attractive to youngsters, the basic conditions and the image
must be improved. Therefore, DSLV intends to promote the job
even more and to win “sympathies” for it.
