Abschlußbericht Mixed Signal Baugruppen 2006/7 Gitarrenverstärker WILDCAT WILDCAT BASSMAN
Die bekannteste Aufnahme, die Hank Garland mit dem FENDER Bassman 5F6-A gespielt hat ist "Little
Sister" mit Elvis Presley. Der Song wurde 1961 im RCA-Studio B in Nashville aufgenommen.
Hierzu ist das folgende Zitat überliefert:
"That's the late great Hank Garland who played the lead guitar that drives Elvis' "Little Sister", with
Scotty Moore on rhythm guitar. For the session, Mr. Garland wasn't satisfied with the sound of his
usual Gibson ES-355, or the Byrdland that he helped design with Billy Byrd, so he borrowed Harold
Bradley's brand new 1961 Fender Jazzmaster (white cream colored). It was after 4:00 a.m.,
following the recording of "(Marie's the name) His Latest Flame", when they began cutting "Little
Sister". Hank "Sugarfoot" Garland plugged the Jazzmaster into an old Fender (tube) tweed Bassman
amp and cranked the volume way up, as he improvised the song's distinctive lick on the spot.
According to engineer Bill Porter, it was the loudest he ever heard a guitar played in RCA's studio in
Nashville. By take 4 of the song, they nailed it to Elvis' satisfaction -- the magic was captured on a 3track
tape machine, with Elvis singing through a Telefunken U-47 microphone, a Neuman KM-46 on
Mr. Garland's Bassman amp, and Mr. Porter balancing the levels on the fly!"
