Abstract<br />
Executives <strong>in</strong> health care face multiple challenges due to the organizational change and the<br />
shift<strong>in</strong>g demands <strong>in</strong> the public health sector. The job satisfaction of the employees, which<br />
itself <strong>in</strong>fluences job performance and work<strong>in</strong>g morale, is highly cont<strong>in</strong>gent on the lea-<br />
<strong>der</strong>ship behavior of their direct supervisors.<br />
The purpose of this thesis is to cover the current state of lea<strong>der</strong>ship behavior of supervisors<br />
and the actual job satisfaction of employees <strong>in</strong> retirement and nurs<strong>in</strong>g homes <strong>in</strong> Vorarlberg.<br />
Therefore, the newer paradigms of transformational and transactional lea<strong>der</strong>ship concern-<br />
<strong>in</strong>g the lea<strong>der</strong>ship behavior of supervisors are used primarily. Besides cover<strong>in</strong>g the job<br />
satisfaction of the employees connected to their supervisors, also the satisfaction connected<br />
to work<strong>in</strong>g conditions and the task itself is covered and described.<br />
Quantitative data was collected <strong>in</strong> a descriptive cross-sectional study, <strong>in</strong> which 329 mem-<br />
bers of the nurs<strong>in</strong>g staff (hav<strong>in</strong>g a professional license after GuKG) <strong>in</strong> retirement and<br />
nurs<strong>in</strong>g homes <strong>in</strong> Vorarlberg were <strong>in</strong>terviewed. The survey questionnaire used was the<br />
German version of the Multifactor Lea<strong>der</strong>ship Questionnaire (MLQ).<br />
The results of the conducted research show that lead<strong>in</strong>g responsibility of executives <strong>in</strong><br />
health care is found to be on a very high level. Altogether, the chart of transformational<br />
lea<strong>der</strong>ship was rated better than the chart of transactional lea<strong>der</strong>ship. Further results <strong>in</strong>clu-<br />
de high rat<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> success criteria concern<strong>in</strong>g the direct supervisor as well as the job satis-<br />
faction of the nurs<strong>in</strong>g staff, relat<strong>in</strong>g to the aspects of lea<strong>der</strong>ship, the work itself and the<br />
prevail<strong>in</strong>g work<strong>in</strong>g conditions. This survey should provide a basis for cont<strong>in</strong>uative studies<br />
on the topic of lea<strong>der</strong>ship <strong>in</strong> health care.<br />
