<strong>Angelika</strong> Kirchschlager enjoys an international career as<br />

one of today’s most important artists, dividing her time<br />

between recitals and opera in Europe, North America and<br />

the Far East. She is internationally recognized as one of the<br />

foremost interpreters of the operas of Richard Strauss and<br />

Mozart. In title roles of operas such as Debussy’s Pelléas et<br />

Mélisande, Nicholas Maw’s Sophie’s Choice and Britten’s<br />

<strong>The</strong> rape of Lucretia she shows the rich variety of her<br />

voice. As a celebrated recitalist and concert performer her<br />

repertoire ranges from Bach, Berlioz, Brahms, Debussy,<br />

Dvorák,<br />

Korngold, Mahler, Mendelssohn and Ravel to<br />

Rossini, Schubert, Schumann, Weill and Wolf. She also<br />

appears with the world’s most important orchestras and<br />

conductors including the New York, Berlin and Vienna<br />

Philharmonic Orchestras. She has a wide discography and<br />

has won numerous awards, including a Grammy for the<br />

recording of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro with René Jacobs.<br />

For Hyperion she has recorded a disc called ‘Women’s lives<br />

and loves’ (CDA67563) with Felicity Lott, and the first<br />

volume in the label’s survey of the complete songs of<br />

Brahms (CDJ33121), both with Graham Johnson. In 2007<br />

she was made a Kammersängerin of the Vienna State<br />

Opera by the Austrian Government. She is a guest professor<br />

at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she is also<br />

an Honorary Fellow, and teaches at the University of Graz.<br />

Born in Salzburg, <strong>Angelika</strong> Kirchschlager enrolled at the<br />

Vienna Music Academy in 1984 where she studied voice<br />

with Professor Gerhard Kahry and the late Viennese<br />

baritone Walter Berry. She makes her home in Vienna.<br />
