Wissenschaftsphilosophie der Kognitionswissenschaft. Vorlesung 4. Reduktive Erklärung
Interfield Theories
Eine der Alternativen zum Reduktionsmodell wissenschaftlicher Theorien a la Nagel ist Darden
und Maulls Konzeption von Interfield Theories. „Interfield theories do not attempt to derive
one theory from another but rather seek to identify relationships between phenomena
studied by two [or more] different fields of inquiry“ (Bechtel 1988, 97).
Darden und Maull bestimmen ein „field“ als
Literatur
an area of science consisting of the following elements: a central problem, a domain
consisting of items taken to be facts related to that problem, general explanatory factors
and goals providing expectations as to how the problem is to be solved, techniques and
methods, and, sometimes, but not always, concepts, laws, and theories which are related
to the problem and which attempt to realize the explanatory goals“ (1977, 44).
