Dieses Beispiel sollte jedoch nicht stellvertretend für Still's Philosophie sein. J. Stark,
die sich sehr ausführlich und akribisch mit Still's Aussagen beschäftigt, meint hierzu:
„…dass der Vergleich verschiedener, wenn auch widersprüchlicher Stellungnahmen
zu bestimmten Themenkomplexen unumgänglich sei, um die assoziativen Felder im
Rahmen seiner (A.T. Still's) metaphorischen Sprache hermeneutisch auszuloten“
(Liem et al., 2008, S. 3).
Steve Paulus (2007) hat in seinem Artikel noch weitere interessante Aussagen zum
Thema Gesundheit in der Osteopathie zusammengestellt und läßt Rolin E. Becker
mit einem Zitat über Gesundheit zu Wort kommen:
“It is extremely difficult to find words to express health. Health is a word with an unknown
meaning. We think of health simply as “health;” we don’t have any definitions for it. We can’t
prove that we’re healthy; we can’t prove that we register health. However, health in the
broadest sense, “Health” with a capital “H”, is a something. It’s the very reason we’re all here .
. . I mean on earth. We’re here because we have Health“ (Becker 1997, LIM p. 219).
Hierbei führt er weiter aus, daß Becker das Wort “Health” (Gesundheit) mit einem
großen “H” geschrieben hat und dem Wort damit spirituelle Bedeutung verliehen hat,
ihm sozusagen “theopoetic acknowledgement” (eine gott-geschaffene Anerkennung,
Anm. d. A.) beimißt.
Im Zuge der Differenzierung zwischen Definition und Beschreibung von Gesundheit
bezieht Steve Paulus sich auf ethymologische Erklärungen von “Health” und
wholeness:
“As we work to better understand Health, we can dig deeper to etymological origins. By
uncovering the history and derivation of the word Health, we are given a view of its
connections to other words and the unconscious expression of value and true meaning. The
words Health and Whole are both derived from the same Old English word hal, which means
healthy, sound, or complete. Akin to the word hal is the Old English haelen, to become well or
to care. Thus, within the Osteopathic lexicon the terms Nature, Health, and Whole are not only
linked but are interestingly, synonymous” (Paulus, 2007).
