• Exploration in the diversity of existing national models and actual changes in the policies concerning
directly and indirectly external lecturers and freelance scientists.
• Investigation in the employment structures of the universities, their actual (non)-permeability for not
employed scholars, their changes in view of “privatization”or neoliberal “deregulation” and the dangers
of these changes.
• Evaluation of the conditions for creative research activities and individual planning of carreers.
• Inquiry of the gender relations in the field between universities, non-universitarian research
institutions and gender relevant policies in the various european countries (in Austria the situation is
characterized by the fact that legislative measures concerning anti-discrimination of women at the
universities did not increase the percentage of women in permanent and especially in higher academic
positions, in contrast, the more effective measures of affirmative action laws have led to a higher
percentage of women in marginal and unpermanent positions).
