Gab es eine Party nach dem Sieg im Rolex Grand Prix von
Aachen?
Meyer: Ja, natürlich! Schon in den Glückwunsch-SMS und
Anrufen gleich nach dem Sieg war die meistgestellte Frage:
„Wann ist die Party?“ Wir haben richtig schön hier auf der
Reitanlage in Friedrichshulde gefeiert.

Als vorletzte Starterin ging Janne Friederike Meyer
im Sattel von Cellagon Lambrasco beim Rolex
Grand Prix in den Parcours. Alle Stangen blieben
liegen, und als nach ihr Luciana Diniz am letzten Hindernis
patzte, war die wichtigste Springprüfung des CHIO Aachen
entschieden. Im Gespräch mit Niels Knippertz plaudert sie
über ihre Leidenschaft Fliegen, den Sieg im Rolex Grand
Prix und ihre Aachener Erlebnisse.
Janne Friederike Meyer entered the ring on Cellagon Lambrasco
as the last but one to compete in the Rolex Grand
Prix. All of the poles stayed in place and after Luciana Diniz
picked up four faults at the last obstacle, the most important
jumping competition of the CHIO Aachen had been decided.
In an interview with Niels Knippertz she chatted about her
passion for flying, her victory in the Rolex Grand Prix and
her experiences in Aachen.
Did you throw a party after winning the Rolex Grand Prix
of Aachen?
Meyer: Yes, of course! The most frequently posed question in
the texts and calls congratulating me straight after the victory
was: “When is the party?” We celebrated big style here
at the riding stables in Friedrichshulde.
Wie haben Sie den Ritt von Luciana Diniz erlebt?
Meyer: Ich war nach meiner Nullrunde so glücklich und
überwältigt, dass ich mir den Ritt von Luciana gar nicht angeguckt
habe. Ich bin auf dem Abreiteplatz Schritt geritten
und dann kam mein Trainer Tjark Nagel und sagte: „Wir
haben gewonnen!“
Die Fotos von Ihnen im Sattel über dem letzten Sprung sind
überragend…
Meyer: Unabhängig davon, dass ich über die Fotos im Nachhinein
selber lachen muss, war das ja auch ein einmaliges
Ereignis. Ich bin in den Parcours eingeritten und Otto (Bundestrainer
Otto Becker, d.Red.) sagte: Es ist noch kein Nuller,
also bleib cool, auch wenn ein Fehler passiert. Und dann
passierte kein Fehler. Die Freude in diesem Moment war unfassbar
groß. Eine Entscheidung ohne Stechen, das gibt es
nur sehr sehr selten. Dieser Tag hat Cellagon Lambrasco und
mir eine besondere Chance gegeben, und ich bin sehr glücklich,
dass wir sie greifen konnten.
Aachen hält immer Geschichten für Sie parat…
Meyer: Ich habe noch kein „normales“ Turnier in Aachen
erlebt. Bei meinem allerersten Auftritt vor einigen Jahren
durfte ich in einer Prüfung im Rahmenprogramm gegen
Rodrigo Pessoa reiten und war schneller als er, das war etwas
Besonderes . Bei meinen ersten beiden „richtigen“ Starts
habe ich immer die Qualifikation für den Rolex Grand Prix
geschafft und musste dann beide Male im Verlauf des Parcours
aufgeben, es war einfach zu schwer. Dann der dritte
Anlauf im Jahr 2010 mit einer Nominierung für den Mercedes-Benz
Nationenpreis und einer Platzierung im Rolex
Grand Prix. Und nun hat Aachen es tatsächlich geschafft,
das noch einmal zu steigern. Ich bin gespannt, was 2012 für
mich bereithält.
Können Sie beschreiben, was das Turnier ausmacht?
Meyer: Ich liebe die langen Wege im Parcours von Sprung zu
Sprung und das Publikum ist einfach Weltklasse. Der Nationenpreis
ist für mich die spannendste Prüfung. Jedes Hindernis
leuchtet im Flutlicht, und 40.000 Zuschauer drücken
die Daumen. Außerdem bin ich Fan der Pferdeschwänze...

Can you describe how you felt while Luciana Diniz was
jumping?
Meyer: I was so happy and overwhelmed after jumping clear
that I didn’t even watch Luciana ride. I walked my horse in
the warm-up arena and then my trainer Tjark Nagel came
over and said: “We have won!“
The photos of you in the saddle over the last jump are amazing…
Meyer: Apart from the fact that I have to laugh at the photos
myself in retrospect, it was indeed a unique experience. I rode
into the ring and Otto (national coach Otto Becker, d.Red.)
said: There are still no clear rounds, so stay cool even if you do
have pole down. And then I jumped clear. My joy in that moment
was incredible. Taking the victory without even having
to fight it out in a jump-off doesn’t happen very often. This
day granted Cellagon Lambrasco and myself a special chance
and I am delighted that we were able to pull it off.

You must have lots of stories to tell about Aachen…
Meyer: I am yet to experience a “normal” show in Aachen.
The first time I ever competed here a few years ago I had
the honour of competing against Rodrigo Pessoa in one of the
smaller competitions and I was faster than him, which was
something really special for me. In the two first “real” rounds
I managed to qualify for the Rolex Grand Prix and then had
to retire both times halfway through the course because it was
simply too difficult. Then, at the third attempt in the year
2010 I was nominated for the Mercedes-Benz Nations Cup
and was placed in the Rolex Grand Prix. And now Aachen
has even managed to overtrump this again. I wonder what
2012 has in store for me?
Can you describe what makes the show so special?
Meyer: I love the long distances in between the jumps in the

Also auch für das Pferd außergewöhnlich. Hat auch Cellagon
Lambrasco gespürt, dass es vor allem im Rolex Grand Prix
um etwas ganz Besonderes ging?
Meyer: Er spürt natürlich meine Anspannung, aber wir sind
beide nervenstark, daher ist das nicht von Nachteil. Cellagon
Lambrasco ist ein außergewöhnlich verlässlicher Partner.
Er gibt immer alles für mich, und derzeit ist er in der Form
seines Lebens.
Sie zählen nun zu den Mit-Favoriten für die Europameisterschaften,
vor allem aber für die Olympischen Spiele in London.
Wie gehen Sie mit diesem neuen Druck um?
Meyer: Wenn andere mich zu den Mit-Favoriten zählen, ehrt
mich das. Ich sehe das mit Abstand. Ein gewisses Maß an Bodenständigkeit
und realistischer Selbsteinschätzung schützt
vor falschen Erwartungen. In unserem Sport ist nichts selbst-

is the most exciting competition for me. Each obstacle glows
under the floodlights and 40,000 spectators cheer you on.
What’s more, I am also a fan of horse tails/ponytails...
So, it is also an extraordinary experience for the horse. Did
Cellagon Lambrasco sense the importance of the occasion,
above all when you entered the ring in the Rolex Grand Prix?
Meyer: Of course he sensed my tension, but we both have
nerves of steel, so this was not a disadvantage. Cellagon Lambrasco
is an exceptionally reliable partner. He always does
his very best for me and at the moment he is in the best form
of his career.
You are now considered to be one of the top favourites to
win the European Championships, and also for the Olympic
Games in London. How will you deal with this new pressure?
Meyer: I am very honoured if other people see me as being one
of the favourites. I take a rather more relaxed view of things.
A certain degree of down-to-earthness and a realistic self-assessment
protect you against false expectations. You can’t take
anything for granted in our sport, so many different factors
play a role. Everything starts off with planning the season
correctly, you have to make sure you schedule the breaks at
the right time and then start training in due time so that the
horse reaches top form again ready for the respective event. I
won’t always get it quite right. I prefer to take one step at a
time. First of all I am going to concentrate on the European
Championships and achieving a good team result. Then, perhaps
I will think about the individual final and then how
I can best get my horses through the winter. The Olympic
Games are my dream, but that is still a long way away off.
Have you had chance to relax a bit after Aachen?
Meyer: I spent a few days on Sylt with my sister Anna Sophie
and my parents to recover from the shock … To simply switch
off and think about something different.
You can do that when you are flying, surely?
Meyer: Absolutely, I have to be fully concentrated in the cockpit,
so when I’m flying I don’t think about my horses at all for

verständlich, es kommt auf sehr viele Faktoren an. Das fängt
schon bei der Saisonplanung an, man muss rechtzeitig Pausen
einlegen, rechtzeitig wieder antrainieren und rechtzeitig
in Top-Form sein. Das wird mir nicht immer gelingen. Ich
mache gerne einen Schritt nach dem anderen. Jetzt schaue
ich erst einmal auf die EM und ein gutes Team-Ergebnis.
Dann denke ich vielleicht über das Einzelfinale nach und
dann darüber, wie ich meine Pferde gut durch den Winter
bekomme. Olympia ist ein Traum, aber noch weit weg.
Haben Sie nach Aachen denn ein bisschen ausspannen können?
Meyer: Ich war mit meiner Schwester Anna Sophie und meinen
Eltern ein paar Tage auf Sylt, um mich von dem Schrecken
zu erholen… Einfach mal abschalten und an etwas Anderes
denken.
Das können Sie sicher auch beim Fliegen?
Meyer: Auf jeden Fall, im Cockpit muss ich konzentriert
sein, da denke ich dann auch zwei, drei Stunden mal gar
nicht an meine Pferde. Ich habe mit Segelfliegen angefangen
und im März den Pilotenschein für einmotorige Maschinen
gemacht. Nun versuche ich immer am Montagnachmittag,
dem „Reiter-Wochenende“, fliegen zu gehen.
Und? Steigen Ihre Freunde bei Ihnen ein?
Meyer: Ja, sie sagen aber immer, ich soll nicht so fliegen,
wie ich reite. Ich sage daraufhin: Ich fliege so, wie Marcus
Ehning reitet, dann sind sie meistens beruhigt. Und außerdem
ist der Norden flach und weit – schön viel Platz für
eine Notlandung.
Sie haben sich früh für die Selbstständigkeit entschieden.
Haben Sie das jemals bereut, gab es auch harte Zeiten?
Meyer: Harte Zeiten gibt es bis heute und die aktuelle
Wirtschaftslage macht den Pferdehandel nicht leichter.
Ich bin froh über gute Sponsoren und ein Sieg im Großen
Preis von Aachen hilft natürlich auch finanziell. Meine
Selbstständigkeit habe ich nie bereut, Unabhängigkeit ist
für mich sehr wichtig.

got my pilot’s licence for single-engine planes. Now, I always
try to go flying every Monday afternoon, which is the “riders‘
weekend”.
And? Do you take your friends up with you?
Meyer: Yes, but they always say I shouldn’t fly like I ride.
My reply is always: I fly like Marcus Ehning rides, and that
usually settles their nerves. Anyway, the countryside in the
North is flat and wide-stretching – so there’s plenty of space
for an emergency landing.
You made the decision to become self-employment at a very
early stage. Have you ever regretted it, have you experienced
any tough times?
Meyer: Even today times are tough and the current economic
situation doesn’t exactly make the horse trade easier. I am
very grateful to have such good sponsors and of course winning
the Grand Prix of Aachen also helped financially. I have
never regretting turning self-employed, being independent is
very important for me.
