Höhere Sicherheit im Luftverkehr
Das Forschungszentrum für Verkehrspilotenausbildung (FHP e. V.)
Higher levels of air traffic safety
The Research Center for Airline Pilot Training (FHP e.V.) is a non-
profit organization which supports efforts to increase the level
of air traffic safety. Its members are an interdisciplinary group of
scientists, commercial pilots, flight instructors, and airline em-
ployees, as well as representatives from pilot‘s unions, the aviation
administration, and air traffic control from German-speaking areas.
The FHP was formed in 1997 from the Committee for University
Training for Airline Pilots, created to draft a proposal for the
establishment of an international degree in Airline System
Technology and Management (ILST) at the University of Applied
Sciences of Bremen in Germany.
Zunehmende Automatisierung verlangt
Increasing levels of automation
require higher standards in commercial
pilot training
As a result of new technologies and increasing automation,
working in the cockpit of a commercial airliner has become a
drastically different endeavor in recent years. The use of motor
skills in flight has declined; systems are monitored and man-
aged rather than used.
Coupled with a fly-by-wire system, a glass cockpit allows for
comfortable operation during normal flight situations. In the
event of an error, however, such systems generate high levels
of dense information, placing the pilot‘s ability to control them
at risk. The increasing complexity of cockpit systems, the ever-
growing volume of air traffic, and an upsurge in H3 accidents –
those caused by a lack of appropriate training or qualifications
– all necessitate a permanent and critical inspection of pilots‘
training and further education concepts.
seminare an. Auf Anregung und unter Mithilfe von Mitgliedern
werden zusätzliche Veranstaltungen zu interessanten Themen
der Pilotenausbildung durchgeführt.
FHP Activities
The FHP organizes an annual symposium to explore current
issues in airline pilot training. Lectures given there are made
available to members and friends of the organization. In addi-
tion, the FHP offers advanced training on a yearly basis within
the framework of Lufthansa’s further education program.
Other conferences covering themes of interest in the field of
pilot training are organized and sponsored by FHP members.
