THE INSTRUMENT MAINTENANCE CYCLE
STORAGE
1. Chairside
• After use, place instruments in
procedural order.
• Wipe off material debris (i.e.,
cements, glass ionomers, etc.)
from instruments.
• Dispose of cotton goods and IMS
Autoclave Wrap.
• Close lid. Latch shut.
2. Cleaning
• Place Enzymax ® or IMS ® Daily
Clean into ultrasonic unit.
• Add hot tap water.
• Place cassettes in ultrasonic unit.
Important: Liquid must come
within 1 inch from the top of tank
when items to be cleaned are
submerged.
• Place lid on ultrasonic unit. Follow
ultrasonic instructions. Clean for 16-
20 minutes. (Heat to 122˚F/50°C
if unit contains a heater.)
• Remove cassettes. Rinse thoroughly
under warm water (de-mineralized
water is ideal).
• Shake to remove excess water.
Stand vertically to dry.
• Change ultrasonic solution daily.

STERILIZATION
3. Sterilization
• All instruments and cassettes should
be completely dry.
• Open IMS cassette and inspect
instruments visually.
• Add cotton goods and IMS
Indicator Strip.
• Wrap cassettes with IMS Autoclave
Wrap. Seal with IMS Monitor
Tape.
• Date code tape using IMS I.D.
Marking Pen.
• Place wrapped cassettes in
sterilizer.
• Process following sterilizer
manufacturer’s instructions.
4. Sterile Storage
• Place wrapped cassettes in storage
area.

5. Delivery
• Place wrapped cassettes on
intended work surface.
• Open wrap and retain as sterile
work surface cover.
• Open cassette. For non-hinged
cassettes, place lid right-side-up
under cassette bottom.
• Inspect Indicator Strip. Write
patient’s name and date on back
and place strip with patient’s file.
DO
• Read all instructions
(IMS & Equipment).
• Maintain cleanliness of
equipment.
• Follow universal precautions and
wear IMS Lilac Utility Gloves when
processing instruments.

DO NOT
• Overload the cassette or force it
to close.
• Overload the sterilizer.
