This is a first
What you’ve just picked up is the first
winter issue of Merano Magazine. A magazine
that was first published on a trial basis
five years ago but which over this short time
has managed to create a solid reputation
for itself. It is now avidly read by a large
number of people who enjoy its mix of reports,
services, portraits and information. It
appeals to tourists and local residents alike
due to its ability to deal with traditional
and general topics but with an exciting,
unusual approach.
So the first winter issue promises to continue
with this approach. There is an in-depth
report on what is considered to be the heart
of alpine homes – the Stube (p. 52) – as well
as an article that attempts to answer the
question as to why Empress Sissi decided to
choose Meran/o as her holiday destination
not just once but four times (p. 44). However,
in the end, who is really able to say what
this most famous of Austrian empresses
actually did while spending her weeks in the
marvellous city of Meran/o?
There is also ample coverage of the traditional
Christmas Market, the winter event
that manages to attract thousands and
thousands of people to the towns and cities
of South Tyrol every year (p. 10). The article
dedicated to the golden autumn hues of
Meran/o, however, concentrates particularly
on the importance of the grape, in all
its guises, to this city (p. 58).
South Tyrol in winter automatically means
winter sports and on page 30 you can find
information about the skiing areas around
Meran/o and their appeal to the winter
tourist. Those of you who would prefer to
enjoy the winter panorama without skis
on your feet have numerous snow-free
walks all around the area which are even
more pleasant given Merano’s mild winter
temperatures. What better way to marvel
at the natural landscape surrounding our
beautiful city? (p. 24).
