1. 18, 25, choige, lit. 'fifth'. Here as constantly in LVI. the
scribe omits a final dh.
1. 22 ionna haon-mhnaoi lit. "in her one woman", a common idiom.
1. 24, 26 buime corrupt for muimme ex mud-mia.
1. 28 ion-nuachair 'fit for a bridegroom': nuachar, gen. nuachair,
O'Curry, Lectures, p. 596, last line, where it means 'bride'.
O'Clery's spelling nuachor seems more correct: nua = vsóq
and cor is either cognate with cor 'contract' or with
XOVQOq, XOVQT}, XOQFTj.
1. 35 an laoigh 'of the calf,' Jaegh p. 115, 10, which comes,
either from Jig 'to jump' or Ugh 'to lick.' In Old-Irish |
this word always follows the o-declension, so that the gen. j
laoighe is probably a scribal error for laoigh.
1. 49 buannachta gen. sg. of buannacht anglicised bonnaght.

P. 119, 1. 1 elgna 'murder' a derivative of elgon or elguin, which seems to
mean deliberate homicide: see Cormac, Tr. pp. 64, 68, and
consider the following from H. 2. 16, col. 107: air it he
ceithri anmand cinath conlat diuit: tucait, ag, acais, et-
gid. Coig anmand cinath immorro conlat ar andug: faill.
eislis, elgon, imraichne, anfot.
1. 4 góet pret. pass. sg. 3 of gonaim, (ghon, Skr. han) from urkelt.
gosento. So in line 6 gaeth (for goeth) comes from urkelt.
goseto. Both seem participial formations from ghos, whence
Lat. hostire 'to strike'. Ir. gó (spear), from *goso-s, may also
be cognate. The part. pass, goite Ml. 2 a , and its compound
ath-goite passim, point to an urkelt. gosentio.
