In revenge for them, it was not soon,
Gerrgenn son of Iliad was slain:

Its title — Aithed Derdrinde re mace Uislenn 'Deirdre's
elopement with Uisliu's son' — is inserted in the list of the
chief-tales (prímscéla) which, according to the Book of Lein-
ster, pp. 189 a , 190 b , a poet is bound to know. And, lastly it is
referred to in the so-called Annals of Loch Cé, ed. Hennessy,
II 434, by Brian mac Diarmada, who compares himself in his
sorrow re Deirdre tareis cloinne hUisnech do marbad abfeall
an Eamuin Macha le Conchubar 2 mac Fachtna Fathaigh mic
Rosa Ruaidh, mic Rudhraidhe. And it has been handled, with
more or less freedom, by the following writers in English:
1 Their names are mentioned in the Cath Muighe Rath, ed. O'Do-
novan, Dublin, 1842, p. 206: ropad dib, ba ferrde in dal, Naísi ocus Ainli
is Ardan, that is, 'of them (seil, the Ulstermen) were — the better was
the assembly — Naisi and Ainli and Ardan'. They were, says O'Donovan,
cousins-german to Cúchulaind and Conall Cernach — all being children
of Cathbad's three daughters.
2 'to Deirdre after Uisnech's children who. were treacherously killed
in Emain Macha by Conchobar'.
