Palma boat show - ‘our‘ local boat show
Come and find out
‚Come and find out‘ – glauben Sie mir, Sie
neues sportliches Erfolgsmodell.
Sie sehen also: ‚Come and find out‘ passt
Rufen Sie uns an
viel Kurzweil beim Lesen
Editorial
Nothing is as consistent as the change. As one of the regularly
readers of our magazine you will probably have noticed
that it has undergone a lot of changes during the past two
years. Two years ago it originated from the idea to present our
range of re-owned yachts in a completely new way. Back then it
was issued without any articles, photo sequences and even without
numbering. Meanwhile we are heading the second anniversary and
we have issued the number 13. In these 13 issues we tried to take
advantage of many suggestions and useful critics of our clients
and employees in order to bring out an interesting and informative
magazine for you.
But let us get back to the key topic – the upcoming Palma boat
show (26.04.2008-04.05.2008). Actually, our headline is quite similar
to the slogan being used by a well-known chain of perfumery
stores. But with a slight change we found it quite suitable for the
Palma boat show. ‘Come and find out’ – believe me, you will find
out a lot when you will visit our display of this year. In comparison
to last year, we will be presenting to you twice as many yachts. Our
team consisting of Jens Pawel, Darren Cooper, Robert Marekovic
and myself will be ready to present to you 3 top exclusive yachts
and of course to answer any questions that may arise during these
9 days. Well, which yachts will be presented to you? There is the
Bandido 75, which can be viewed in the Mediterranean for the very
first time. The Elegance 70, which was already a crowd-puller at
this year’s ‘boot 2008’. And the Elegance 60, our new sportive and
very successful model.
Now you know why ‘come and find out’
is just the right slogan for this occasion! I
would appreciate it, if you would let yourself
be invited to visit us at the Palma boat
show. Simply call us or send us an e-mail,
and we will be ready to send you your entrance
tickets and further information for
the upcoming Palma boat show.
I am looking forward to your visit.
Yours,
A logistical task with
the need for perfection

www.gbs-germany.com
SAL GmbH (SAL Schifffahrtskontor Altes
Land GmbH & Co. KG aus Steinkirchen
in Deutschland). Mit ihrer Flotte von 'Full
Service Heavy Lift'-Frachtern kann dann
an nahezu jeder beliebigen Stelle abgeladen
A yacht is not always delivered on her own keel to its future owner.
Sometimes it is quite an effort.
Was passiert nun beim Beladen und Entladen
Kaohsiung in Taiwan an Hong Kong vorbei
ins südchinesische Meer. An Indonesien
umgekehrten Weg. Seile lösen, Yachten mit
Träger gemeinsam anheben und ins Wasser
lassen. Da eine Yacht doch einige Tonnen
auf die Waage bringt und beim Abladen
sowie beim Beladen der Frachter dann in
eine Schieflage geraten würde, kann der
Frachter eine Art Ausgleichsponton seitlich
anbringen, um der hier entstehenden
Hebelwirkung entgegenzuwirken.
Und nun beginnen erst einmal
die behördlichen Mühlen zu
mahlen. Die von Taiwan gelieferten
Yachten werden in Palma
auf einen Liegeplatz verlegt
und kommen dann unter
Zollverschluss, bis alle Papiere
etc.
Don't you think that the yachts in the
Mediterranean marinas are simply
beautiful when you look at them
along the quay-side? Or, how about looking
at them gliding smoothly and gracefully
over the sea?
Well, as like many other products, also the
yachts need to be transported from the
manufacturer to the delivery destination
and this process can really be considered
a master stroke. Regarding our Elegance
Yachts and Bandido Yachts this means
travelling half-way around the globe, from
Taiwan (Kaohsiung) to Palma de Mallorca,
Bremen or any other harbour where big
carriers can berth and unload.
Usually these transports from Taiwan are
organized by the company SAL GmbH (SAL
Schifffahrtskontor Altes Land GmbH & Co.
KG from Steinkirchen in Germany). With
their fleet of 'full service heavy lift' carriers
they can almost unload at any destination.
Last summer, for example, various Elegance
Yachts where delivered to Palma with one
of their type 161 carriers. This type of car-
8 | DI Yachts Magazine DI Yachts Magazine | 9
ansport
rier can load 9.549 metric tons and can still
go a speed of 20 knots. With its 3 cranes
on board the carrier can either lift 275
metric tons SWL (safe working load) with
one crane or in combination with a second
crane it can lift 600 metric tons SWL and
is therefore independent from local logistic
equipment of the destination harbour.
Even unloading at sea is possible when the
waves are not too high.
10 | DI Yachts Magazine
What happens exactly
when yachts
are loaded or unloaded?
The Elegance
Yachts are
moved to the side of
the carrier and then
they are picked up
by the crane which
lifts them up onto
the deck (124 m x
20,5 m). When the
yacht is placed on
the cradle, they are
both tightened to
the deck with numerous wire
cables to ensure that nothing
moves even with high waves
swell. Additionally all loose parts
in and on the yacht are tied up
ore stored separately.
And then the long journey from
Kaoshiung, Taiwan passing Hong
Kong, entering the south Chinese
sea starts. Passing Indonesia,
entering the Indian ocean,
later the Arabic Sea – the Red
Sea – through the Suez Canal
entering the Mediterranean Sea
and finally the last sea miles until Palma de
Mallorca. It doesn't really sound like being
a long trip, but actually it is 20.000 kilometres
in all weather. Usually such a trip takes
up to 6 weeks.
On arrival, the carrier's crew together with
the team of Elegance Yachts Service from
Santa Ponca takes care of unloading the
yachts. Now the process starts vice versa.
Loosening the wire cables and lifting up the
yacht including the cradle and then letting
it down into the water. Due to the fact that
a yacht weighs quite a few tons, the carrier
has to move out a pontoon in order to
balance out and not to get into disturbing
situation.
Once unloading is proceeded, the authorities
get involved. The yachts which have
been delivered from Taiwan are moved to
a berth in Palma where they stay under
confiscation by customs until all documents
are checked and all duties and taxes
have been paid. After all that, the date for
handover is quite close. Now all the parts
which have been dismantled for the journey
are mounted again and the yacht undergoes
a complete cleaning. Finally the decoration
and small adjustments according to
the customer's desires are made. Now the
client will be rung and a date for handover
will be agreed.
Valldemossa
One of the well known villages on
Majorca
Auf Mallorca gibt es unzählige Ortschaften,
die es zu besichtigen lohnt
und die mehr oder weniger historisch
und kulturell von Interesse sind. Ein besonderes
Highlight ist die kleine Gemeinde Valldemossa
im Tramuntana-Gebirge. Mit ihren
knapp 2000 Einwohnern hat sie es zu einer
beachtlichen Berühmtheit gebracht, sie gilt
wohl als eine der bekanntesten Ortschaften
auf der Insel. Diese Berühmtheit hat sie zum
einen der Vergangenheit und den namhaften
Besuchern zu verdanken, und zum anderen
der kulturell sehr aktiven Gegenwart.
Im Winter 1838/1839 wurden in Valldemossa
in der Kartause zwei sehr bekannte
Persönlichkeiten der damaligen Zeit aufgenommen.
Es war das Liebespaar George
Sand (Amandine-Aurore-Lucile Dupin
de Francueil, französische Schriftstellerin,
1804-1876) und Frédéric Chopin (Fryderyk
Franciszek Szopen, polnischer Komponist,
Valldemossa
Ein kulturhistorisches Meisterwerk des letzten Jahrtausends beeindruckt
jeden Besucher aufs Neue.
A cultural historic monument of the past millennium which impresses
every visitor anew.
verlassen. Über diese Tage und die Eindrücke
von der Natur auf Mallorca und dem
mallorquinischen Volk schrieb George Sand
(Nonne, 1531-1574). Sie ist bis heute die
einzige Bewohnerin Mallorcas, die von der
katholischen Kirche heilig gesprochen wurde
(1930 von Pius XI).
Berühmtheiten der heutigen Zeit sind unter
anderem der US-amerikanische Schauspieler
Michael Douglas und seine Frau Catherine
Zeta-Jones, die bei Valldemossa eine
Finca haben und gelegentlich auf der Insel
anzutreffen sind.
Die Kartause von Valldemossa ist neben
der Kathedrale von Palma eine der bekanntesten
Sehenswürdigkeiten von Mallorca.
Die Kartause, ein Kloster der Mönche des
Kartäuserordens, wurde im Jahre 1399 erbaut
und bis sie 1835 säkularisiert wurde,
als solches genutzt. In den Gemäuern der
Kartause gibt es reichlich Sehenswürdigkeiten
aus den verschiedenen Epochen ihres
Bestehens. Viele kleine Museen geben hierzu
Einblick und man kann auch die beiden
Zellen besichtigen, in denen George Sand
und Frédéric Chopin ihren Winter verbracht
haben.
In der Gegenwart spielt Valldemossa vor allem
im kulturellen Bereich eine große Rolle.
So finden jedes Jahr verschiedene Festivals
im Bereich der klassischen Musik in Vall-
demossa statt und ziehen damit unzählige
Gäste und Fans in den Ort. Desweiteren hat
Valldemossa mit dem Kulturzentrum 'Costa
Nord' eine attraktive Anlaufstelle für Interessierte
der regionalen Kultur sowie eine Art
Informationszentrum rund um das Tramuntana-Gebirge.
Das Kulturzentrum wurde
durch die Initiative von Michael Douglas ins
Leben gerufen.
Auch landschaftlich ist Valldemossa einen
Ausflug wert. Mitten im Tramuntana-Gebirge
gelegen bietet das idyllische Dorf viele
Wandermöglichkeiten mit unterschiedlichen
Schwierigkeitsgraden und Tourlängen.
Valldemossa ist mehr als nur einen Ausflug
wert.
On Majorca you will find numerous
villages which are worthwhile to be
visited. The one or the other can also
be of historical or cultural interest. A special
highlight is the small community Valldemossa
located in the Tramuntana mountain-range.
With barely 2.000 inhabitants it
became quite famous and can be considered
as one of the best known villages on
the island. It owes this particular celebrity
status to the past, some famous visitors
and the contemporary cultural activities.
Back in the winter of 1838/1839 two very
famous personalities of that time were taken
in the monastery of Valldemossa. It was
the two lovers George
Sand (Amandine-Aurore-Lucile
Dupin de
Francueil, a French authoress
– 1804-1876)
and Frédéric Chopin
(Fryderyk Franciszek
Szopen, Polish composer,
1810-1849),
who stayed 98 days
together with the two
children of Georges
Sand in the monastery
of Valldemossa.
This relationship between
a divorced older woman, wearing
men's clothes and a younger man back then
was extremely deprecated in the Catholic
village and nobody wanted to get in
touch with them. Due to the aggravation of
Frédéric Chopin's bad health both left Valldemossa
and the island
of Majorca after
the aforementioned
98 days. George Sand
wrote a novel about
their stay on Majorca,
her impressions on
Majorca's nature and
the Majorcan people.
The title is 'A winter
on Majorca' and you
can buy it in almost
any book shop or kiosk
here on Majorca.
Another celebrity of
the past of Valldemossa is Catalina Tomás
(nun, 1531-1574). Until today, she is the only
inhabitant of Majorca who was canonized
by the Catholic Church (1930 by Pius XI).
Amongst others, today's celebrities such as
the American actor Michael Douglas and
his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, who own a
finca near Valldemossa, can by chance also
be met on the island.
Besides the cathedral of Palma, the chapterhouse
of Valldemossa belongs to the
best known sights on Majorca. The chapterhouse
- the monastery of the Carthusian
order of monks - was built in 1399 and in
use until it was secularized in 1835. In the
buildings of the chapterhouse you will find
plentiful sights of their different eras of insistence.
possibility to visit the two chambers where
George Sand and Frédéric Chopin spent
their winter.
In the present, Valldemossa is well-known
for its cultural commitment. Every year
many guests and fans are attracted due to
the fact that Valldemossa organizes various
festivals of classic music. Furthermore
Valldemossa offers with its cultural information
centre 'Costa Nord' a very attractive
meeting point for those, who are interested
in local culture and the Tramuntana mountain-range.
It was Michael Douglas himself
who breathed life into the centre!
But also Valldemossa's country side is
worthwhile a trip. Located in the middle of
the Tramuntana mountains, the idyllic village
offers a lot of opportunities for hiking
and offers routes of different levels of difficulty
and different lengths. Valldemossa for
sure is worthwhile a visit!
The weather is of vital importance when it comes to the planning
of yacht excursions or holidays on Majorca.
an. So gibt es viele freie und kommerzielle
Angebote in unterschiedlichen Sprachen,
liefern. Sie liefern nicht nur Daten über
Regen oder Sonnenschein,
auch Daten
und Prognosen zur
Wind- und Wellenentwicklung
werden
in zusätzlichen Karten
zur Verfügung
gestellt. Denn was
bringt der schönste
Sonnenschein bei einem
5m Wellengang
und starkem Gegen-
wind?
Aber auch der einfache Wetterbericht ist
oftmals schon sehr interessant.
Anbieter aufzeigen. Ein Hinweis sei
aber hier schon mal gegeben: Wir übernehmen
keine Gewähr für Zuverlässigkeit der
Prognosen noch sind die hier aufgelisteten
Anbieter vollständig. Es gibt etliche Wetter-
anbieter, und jeder hat so seinen Favoriten,
auf den er sich verlässt.
Wetterzentrale.de
Hat sehr umfangreiche aktuelle und prognostizierte
Daten im Bereich Wind und Wellen,
welche von der US-Navy zur Verfügung
gestellt werden. Leider sind diese Daten
nicht leicht zu finden in dem Gesamtangebot.
Hier eine kleine Anleitung, um zu den
Karten zu kommen: Auf der Hauptseite auf
'Top Karten' klicken, danach im neuen Fenster
links oben auf NOGAPS gehen und danach
im mittleren Teil etwas scrollen und auf
10m Wind gehen.
was die Bedienung angeht.
weather situation at 12:00
‘Today’s
changing little. Low 1002 Gulf of Genoa,
of the Gulf of Sidra; changing little. High
1005 Croatia, getting stronger. In the eastern
part of the Mediterranean Sea slight
barometer opposites …’
This is approximately how the sea weather
forecast sounds/reads which you can receive
via radio or find on the website of the
‘Inselradio’ repeatedly every day. But every
captain or day skipper knows that according
to experience, you cannot rely on weather
forecasts here on the island. Especially in
spring time and autumn, the weather conditions
change rapidly. So a careful research
of actual and future forecast is inevitable!
Of course many yachts have Navtex – an
onboard system for the reception of weather
data via short wave – but sometimes the
reception is bad or doesn’t work at all. With
Navtex you can receive some kind of fax in
English language which is transmitted via
short wave on frequency 518 kHz. It shows
the actual weather situation and also satellite
picture – security information and
warnings regarding the maritime situation
are also transmitted.
Nowadays, where you have Internet access
at home and also on board, it is advisable
to take advantage of this optimal means of
information on weather forecasts. There
are many commercial and non-commercial
offers in different languages. Some of them
offer really good forecasts for the weather
conditions of the various coastal areas.
They do not only present information on
rain, sunshine, but also forecasts on the
development of winds and waves are displayed
on separate charts. Because the nicest
sunshine can’t make up for waves with
a height of 5 meters and strong winds!
But also the basic weather forecast can be
quite interesting. When you are planning
to spend a couple of days on the island,
of course you would like to know how the
weather will be in the different regions of
the island. And even when you are already
on the island and even though you can’t
change it, you want to know what you can
expect.
Here we would like to present some online
services and their specialities to you. But we
would like to point out that we don’t take
responsibilities for their forecasts nor do
we list them all! There are a lot of weather
services and everybody has his favourite he
relies on.
Die Autoindustrie hat es vorgemacht:
Um sich erfolgreich auf dem Markt zu
etablieren, muss man verschiedene
Produktlinien anbieten, um auch verschiedene
Kundencharaktere anzusprechen.
So haben erfolgreiche Autobauer neben der
klassischen Linie auch eine sportliche Linie
und die SUVs (sport utility vehicles). Ähnlich
diesem Konzept haben wir uns vor einigen
Jahren entschieden, unseren bestehenden
Power, endurance and an unbelievably long range – Bandido
Yachts are gaining ground.
etwa 3 Jahren reifte in uns die
Idee, unser Produktportfolio
zu erweitern, und so entstanden
zwei weitere Produktlinien,
die Bandido Yachts und die
Elegance Open Sportyachts. In
dieser Ausgabe des Yachts Magazines
bekommen Sie einen
Einblick in die Bandido Yachts
und in einer der kommenden
Ausgaben können Sie dann einiges
über die Elegance Open
Sportyachts lesen.
Die erste Bandido Yacht, die Bandido 90,
feierte im Januar 2007
ihre Weltpremiere und
wurde euphorisch von
der Yachtwelt empfangen.Zwischenzeitlich
Desweiteren spielt
unsere Philosophie eine Rolle, welche bei all
unseren Yachten zum Tragen kommt. 'Custom-built'
Erfolg. So sind auch die technischen Daten
der Bandido 90 beeindruckend und lassen
keine Wünsche offen. Mit einer Länge von
27,90m, einer Breite von 7,70m und einer
Höhe von 8,80m ist nicht jeder Liegeplatz
und Yachthafen für eine Bandido 90
verfügbar. Sie ist aber auf jeden Fall eine
nicht zu übersehende Erscheinung, wenn
sie mal in einen Hafen einfährt. Mit ihren
zwei Dieselmotoren von mind. 1100 PS und
dem Standardtreibstofftank von 35.000
Litern ist keines der sieben Weltmeere vor
der Bandido 90 sicher. Wollen Sie den Atlantik
überqueren oder zum Indischen Oze-
an? Kein Problem und
jederzeit machbar. Sie
finden mehr technische
Daten auf S. 69
in dieser Ausgabe des
Yachts Magazines.
Aber wie Sie es bereits
von unseren Elegance
Yachten gewohnt sind,
es reicht nicht, nur ein
Modell zu haben. Es
gibt immer Kunden,
die lieber eine Nummer
kleiner hätten
oder eine Nummer größer, oder gar zwei
Nummern kleiner oder zwei Nummern größer.
Und so hatte die Bandido 75 im Januar
dieses Jahres ihre Weltpremiere und die
kommenden Modelle lassen nur noch geringe
Zeit auf sich warten. So ist die Bandido
66 und die Bandido 110 in Planung bzw. in
Produktion und die Bandido 140 ist ebenfalls
im Großen und Ganzen fertig geplant
und kann bestellt werden.
Bei den kleineren Modellen, der Bandido 75
und der Bandido 66, wurde auf den Stahlrumpf
zu Gunsten des Gewichts verzichtet
und die beiden Yachten werden komplett
aus GFK gebaut. Auch konnte auf Grund
der Länge kein drittes Deck eingeplant werden,
so dass diese beiden Yachten über zwei
Decks plus Flybridge verfügen.
Sie können sich von der Bandido
75 ein Bild machen, indem Sie
uns einfach mal auf der Palma
Messe Ende April – Anfang Mai
besuchen. Dort ist die Bandido
75 ausgestellt und kann von
Ihnen besichtigt werden. Auch
nach der Messe wird die Bandido
75 auf Mallorca bleiben
und Sie können jederzeit einen
Termin mit uns vereinbaren, um
sich die Bandido 75 einmal anzuschauen.
Mehr Informationen
und Bilder zur Bandido 75 erhalten
Sie auch ab S. 66 in dieser
Ausgabe.
Für das kommende Jahr können
Sie sich schon die Premiere der
Bandido 66 vormerken und wer
weiß, welche Modelle in der nahen
Zukunft ebenfalls ihre Premieren
feiern.
The automotive industry demonstrated
how to do it: In order to establish a
brand successfully on the market, you
have to offer various product lines to be
able to comply with the needs of different
buyers.
That is why successful car manufacturers
also offer a sportive line and SUVs (sport
utility vehicles) besides their classic range.
A couple of years ago we decided to follow
a similar concept - to offer our actual
and future clients as well a manifold portfolio.
So this is how we have managed to
be successfully on the market with our Elegance
Yachts for more than 14 years now.
About three years ago, the idea came up
to enlarge our product range and to start
with two new product lines, the Bandido
Yachts and the Elegance Open Sportyachts.
In this issue of the Yachts Magazine we
will present to you an insight on Bandido
Yachts and in one of the upcoming issues
you will get to know more on the Elegance
Open Sportyachts.
The first Bandido Yacht, the Bandido 90,
celebrated its world premiere back in January
2007 and was euphorically welcome by
the yacht world. Meanwhile the production
of the Bandido 90 operates at full speed,
which reflects how successful a new product
can be when it is planned carefully!
DI Yachts Magazine | 35
Bandido
The Bandido 90 is based on the concept
of trawler construction – a steel hull with
an aluminium superstructure – ready to
meet the challenge of the elements. Being
a displacement boat, it is not the speed
that counts for the Bandido, but the endurance,
the long range and
the provision of space. The
endurance and the long
range are amongst others
influenced by the engines.
This is why the ‘medium
duty’ MAN engines only
reach a cruising speed of
approx. 10-11 knots (max.
14 knots) which enables
them to guarantee a long
range at full tank capacity.
With its three decks and the
flybridge, the Bandido 90
offers an enormous provision
of space and a quality
of life above-average.
Where does the aboveaverage
quality of life on
the Bandido 90 result from?
First of all, it is due to the
large provision of space on
her three decks on a total
length of 90 feet. In comparison
with the Elegance
90 production series, it is
simply one more deck and
this is quite a lot concerning
a length of 90 feet. Another
point is the philosophy we
36 | DI Yachts Magazine
follow with all our yachts – being
‘custom-built’. Each detail
and every element of the yacht
can be defined by its future
owner and will be carried out by
our shipyard. Therefore the Bandido
can be considered a unique
yacht which reflects the unique
taste of the respective client.
These are only two reasons for
her big success. Even the technical
details of the Bandido are
quite impressing and don’t leave
much to be desired. With her
length of 27,90m, a breadth of
7,70m and a height of 8,80m
not every marina is able to provide
a berth. But one thing is
for sure - when she enters a harbour you
obviously can’t overlook her. With her two
diesel engines of minimum 1100 HP and the
standard fuel capacity of 35.000 litres none
of the seven seas is unconquerable for the
Bandido 90! Would you like to cross the At-
lantic or travel the Indian Ocean? No problem
and possible at any time! You will find
more information on the technical details
in this issue on page 69.
But as you might know already from our
Elegance yacht range – one model is never
enough. There are always clients, asking for
a smaller or a bigger sized yacht or even
for two sizes more or less. Back in January
the Bandido 75 had its world premiere and
you will not have to wait much longer for
the next models to be released. The Bandido
66 and the Bandido 110 are already
in planning, i.e. in production and even the
Bandido 140 is also almost ready planned
and can be ordered already.
For the two smaller models, the Bandido 75
and the Bandido 66, the decision was made
to do them without the steel hull in favour
to the weight and so they are completely
manufactured in GRP. Due to the fact that
they are both not long enough for a third
deck, they only consist of two decks and the
flybridge. If you like, you can visit us at the
Palma boat show taking
place at the end of April-
beginning of May in order
to experience the Bandido
75. There the Bandido 75
will be displayed and can
be viewed, if you like. After
the boat show the Bandido
75 stays on Majorca, so it
will always be possible to
arrange a viewing at a later
date. More information
and photos on the Bandido
75 follow on page 66 of
this issue.
Prepare yourself for joining
The Yachts Magazine
From the idea to the final edition
Yachts Magazine
www.e-ingrama.com
www.drettmann-international.com
www.yachts-magazine.com
unser Angebot an gebrauchten Yachten
nicht mehr nur in einer Excel-Tabelle zu
präsentieren, sondern auch ein paar Bilder
zu den technischen Daten aufzubereiten.
Und so war unsere erste, nicht offizielle
Version des Yachts Magazines zur Messe
Palma 2006 fertig und wir verteilten so an
die 100 Exemplare an interessierte Kunden.
Zwischenzeitlich liegen wir bei einer Auflage
von 10000 Exemplaren und bei 80 Seiten
(damals waren es noch 16 Seiten), welche im
Offsetdruck gedruckt werden und hier und
da einiges an Arbeit erfordern. Wir möchten
Ihnen hier einmal zeigen, wie unser Yachts
Magazine entsteht.
Da sind zunächst einmal die redaktionellen
Texte im Magazin, welche bei einer kleinen
Besprechung zu Beginn des Prozesses
festgelegt werden. Das Schreiben der Texte
nimmt so seine Zeit in Anspruch, dann
müssen diese noch Korrektur gelesen und
ins Englische übersetzt werden. Warum
The magazine you are holding in your hands right now has gone
through a long process.
Magazins aufgesetzt,
was normalerweise
nicht nötig wäre, wo
wir aber jedes mal einige
Verbesserungen
im Layout und der
Gestaltung einfließen
lassen. Wenn dann die
Texte in deutsch und
englisch fertig sind, die
Bilder ausgesucht und
platziert sind und die
Fotostrecken definiert
sind, setzen wir von
unseren Werbepartnern
die Anzeigen auf
die entsprechenden Seiten. Hin und wieder
gestalten wir auch eine eigene Werbeseite
im Magazin und positionieren z.B. Bandido
Yachts oder auch uns als Yachtbrokerage-
Unternehmen.
anbieten wollen.
And last but not least, das Cover. Man
20 Magazinen zusammengepackt. Lediglich
etwa 1500 Magazine bekommen danach
versandt. Ein weiterer Teil der Magazine
wird in 5 Sterne Hotels, Häfen, Golfplätzen
und der gehobenen Gastronomie ausgelegt
sowie über unsere Kooperationspartner 'Engel
& Völkers' und 'Sixt' verteilt. Und auf einem
dieser Wege haben Sie das jetzige Heft
erhalten.
Not every idea results in a successful
product, but as we have proofed
once before with our yacht range,
our Yachts Magazine also joins our successful
story.
Exactly two years ago the idea came up to
present our re-owned yacht range not only
in an excel list, but rather in a combination
with some photos of the corresponding
yacht. And so the first unofficial version
of our Yachts Magazine was issued for the
Palma boat show 2006 and approximately
100 copies were handed out to interested
clients. Meanwhile we reached a number of
10.000 copies and a number of 80 pages
(back then it was 16 pages) which are printed
offset. This implies a lot of preparation
and therefore we would like to show you
how our Yachts Magazine is made.
First of all there are the editorial texts which
are defined in a little meeting at the beginning
of the process. Writing them really
takes some time! Then they are proofread
and translated into English. Now you might
be asking yourself, why this is so timeconsuming
– despite the texts are not very
long? Well, on the one hand some of our
texts are about sightseeing and attractions
on Majorca – and before you
can start writing about them,
you should rather visit the locations
in order to be able to write
about personal experiences and
impressions. On the other hand,
we have to do some research
on pictures or even do our own
photo shooting.
At the same time the magazines
layout is set up. This is not really
necessary, but due to slight
changes and improvements we
like to insert, it has to be done.
When the German and English
texts are ready, the photos are
selected and inserted and the
photo series are defined, we
insert the ads of our advertising
partners on the respective
pages. Sometimes, we even create
our own ad in
order to advertise
e.g. Bandido Yachts
or our own company
as a yacht broker.
Then we start with
the difficult part –
the insertion of all
of our actual offers
of re-owned yachts
with their technical
details and respective photos.
Due to the fact, that it is possible
that some of these yachts
can be sold instantly, the order
of them may change constantly
until the final deadline for printing.
Of course, it is also possible
vice versa - a client contacts us
short-dated because he wants
to have his yacht for sale presented
in our Yachts Magazine.
And last but not least - the selection
of the cover photo. It is
unbelievable how hard it is to
find the perfect match – one
that fits the frame and represents
the Yachts Magazine as
it should. Sometimes we have
a discussion on that, because
everybody of our team has its
own taste and preferences regarding
the cover photo.
Up to this point there are three persons
involved in the process. Christina Reis is
responsible for all translations; Ruth Boogaard
for proof-reading of the German and
English texts and changes regarding layout
and design and Robert Marekovic is responsible
for texts, photos, layout and design.
The whole project is then transferred into
a web-functional PDF format which is afterwards
available on our website, so that
the keenly interested ones get the chance to
download it immediately. Another PDF document
(a PDF/x3 format) is then prepared
for the printer's and this is what it makes so
complicated. Due to the fact that we want
the colours to turn out like we want them to
be, a continuously colour management incl.
hardware calibration, soft proofs and paper
proofs is inevitable. This PDF/x3 document
is either send online via FTP or the common
way as a CD to the printer's (such a PDF
document can contain data up to several
100 MB).
Now, the printer's do the 4 printing blocks
for the classic 4 colour offset print. Each
printing block contains 4 double pages. For
an eighty-page magazine approximately 10
printing blocks for each colour are made.
These printing blocks, measuring 77 cm x
103 cm each, are inserted into a large sheetfed
offset printing press and now everything
is ready for printing. After printing
all pages, the further processing consists
of cutting, gluing and bundling them into
packs of 20 magazines. Merely 1.500 copies
will be treated separately. They are packed
individually for the direct mail to our clients
and interested people.
A couple of days after the printer's received
the PDF document, we already receive the
freshly printed magazines and we can start
distributing them. The 1.500 copies for the
direct mailing are labelled with the addresses
of our clients and packed into boxes with
an approximate total weight of 360 kg. DHL
now picks them up for
their global mail service
and sends them
to the indicated destinations
all over the
world. Another share
will be distributed in
five-star hotels, marinas,
golf courses and
high standard gastronomy
and through
our cooperation partners
'Engel & Völkers'
and 'Sixt'. So you must
have received your
copy through either
one of these methods
of distribution!
