Back to “Veckatimest”, tell
me something about the song
“Cheerleader”, which struck me as a
funny title for such a relaxed track?
We came up with that title practically
at the last minute. The song had
literally been finished and we didn’t
know what to call it. We had a working
title for it that was very numeric and
catalogue-like and we had to come up
with something. I think it’s the idea of
someone trying to encourage someone
else to be positive.
What’s the first single going to be?
“Two Weeks”.
What about “Southern Point”? I feel
like that song differs from the other
tracks on “Veckatimest”.
Yeah, that song feels like a monster
with eight heads. That was probably the
last song we worked on in the recording
process and it was very nebulous as to
how we were going to pull it off. If there
were a good idea we’d put that down
and then if there were another good
idea that came along we’d put that
down as well. It sort of just evolved in a
couple of different directions.
Maybe you were celebrating the end
of your recording and composing
sessions…
It’s feels like an overture or something.
Maybe it gets people in the right mood
to listen to the rest of the album.
It definitely resets what you think of
us, being like a “freak-folk act”. A lot of
people called us that and it just seems
like a very unfitting title. Maybe it helps
people to not know what to expect from
us.
There’s definitely a psychedelic
aspect to your music, which is also
something associated with 60ies
rock-‘n’-roll.
Yeah. That’s definitely fair, but the folk
group thing is a bit strange to me.
There are folk elements, but I guess
when I think of folk it’s more like just a
guitar and a voice.
Did you go out last night? I heard
you had a long night out with some
friends?
Yeah, we went out. We ended up at
this weird karaoke bar until 5:30 in
the morning. It was super fun. It was
karaoke the fun way. We had a small
room with a microphone. Then in this
other room there was gay porn on a
big screen with a soundtrack of John
Coltrane and Wayne Shorter playing
amazing jazz stuff. At the same time
there was this crazy, raunchy 70ies
porn with these three dudes just
going to town. It was actually fucking
awesome and kind of amazing. It
could have been a psychedelic art
installation. It was just so weird. There
was also a pool table with a bunch of
pillows on top and a sign in German
saying something like “don’t feed the
animals” or “don’t pet the animals”
and we were confused if that meant
something like not to jerk off in there. It
was altogether very confusing.
