Der Humboldthafen ist der älteste Hafen
Berlins. Er diente als Umschlagplatz für
Waren und Rohstoffe aller Art. Nach dem
2. Weltkrieg verlor der Hafen diese
Funktion und geriet durch die Teilung
Berlins in eine vernachlässigte Stadtrand-
situation. In den letzten Jahren wurden die
Flächen für die Unterbringung der Bau-
stelleneinrichtungen und zur Lagerung von
Baustoffen sowohl für Bauvorhaben der
Bundesregierung als auch für den neuen
Hauptbahnhof genutzt. Davon zeugen
noch Reste der Befestigungen der Auf-
stellflächen für die Containeraufbauten
der Deutschen Bahn AG. Das Grund-
stücksareal ist unbebaut, jedoch größten-
teils befestigt.
Es bestehen keine langfristigen Miet- und
Nutzungsverhältnisse. Temporäre Nutzun-
gen in den Sommermonaten, wie z.B.
durch das Sandskulpturenfestival „Sand-
sation“ oder zuletzt das mobile Theater-
festival „Boulevard of Broken Dreams“,
sind bislang üblich, werden jedoch immer
nur mit kurzfristigen Laufzeiten bzw.
Kündigungsfristen vereinbart.
Für die geplante Sanierung der denk-
malgeschützten Uferwand des Humboldt-
hafens werden beginnend ab diesem Jahr
Teilflächen des Grundstücksareals für den
Zugang, die Baustelleneinrichtung und für
die Durchführung der Baumaßnahmen bis
voraussichtlich Ende III. Quartal 2010 in
Anspruch genommen.
Für die westlich des Hafenbeckens gele-
gene Fläche (Baufeld MK H2A) ist auf
Grund der noch nicht abgeschlossenen
Planungen für den Bau der Nordring-
anbindung der S-Bahn-Linie S21 die Be-
einträchtigung durch die Baustelle, die
Baustelleneinrichtung oder durch even-
tuell erforderliche verkehrliche Ersatzmaß-
nahmen möglich. Die Fertigstellung und

The Humboldthafen is Berlin’s oldest port.
It served as a reshipment point for all kinds
of goods and raw materials. The
Humboldthafen lost this function after
World War II, and then the division of the
city pushed the port into a neglected area
outside the main areas of activity. In recent
years the area has been used to
accommodate construction site facilities
and a building materials depot for the
federal government’s building projects and
the new Hauptbahnhof railway station. The
remains of fixtures for the assembly of
Deutsche Bahn AG’s container systems are
a testament to this. Although the property
is undeveloped, most of it is surfaced.
There are currently no long-term rental
contracts or usage agreements relating to
the property. The property has often been
used during the summer months for
temporary installations such as the sand-
sculpture festival “Sandsation” and, most
recently, the travelling theatre festival
“Boulevard of Broken Dreams”. Short-term
contracts and notice periods have always
been agreed in these cases.
Parts of the property are to be utilised for
access, construction site facilities and the
construction work associated with the
planned renovation of the waterside, which
is protected by the Monument Preser-
vation Act, from the beginning of this year
until the third quarter of 2010 (estimate).
Due to the currently incomplete planning
for the S21 urban light railway line that will
link the Hauptbahnhof to the circular urban
railway line to the north, the area that lies
to the west of the harbour (Site MK H2A)
may be affected by the construction site,
construction site facilities or any neces-
sary replacement transportation services.
