1 November – 13 December 1972: First survey and collecting trip
by employees to Togo; there would be a further eight collecting trips
before 1979. At the end of 1983 the Flore analytique du Togo is
published, enumerating all the country’s flowering plants with
identification keys and specimen citations.
20. Juni 1973: Eröffnung der Arzneipflanzen-Abteilung
auf dem Gelände hinter dem Botanischen Museum (heute
Herbarflügel). Die Mittel dafür wurden von der Freien
Universität als Ausgleich für die Baufläche des Instituts für
Systematische Botanik und Pflanzengeographie bereitgestellt.
20 June 1973: Opening of the medicinal plants section on the plot
of land behind the Botanical Museum (today’s herbarium wing).
The Freie Universität had come up with the finances in return for
the land on which the Institut für Botanik und Pflanzengeographie
was built.

3. Juli 1973: Ein Senatsbeschluss zur Verbesserung der Personalstruktur
schafft 15 neue Planstellen, darunter vier für
Wissenschaftler und drei für technische Assistenten.
3 July 1973: A Senate resolution to improve the staff structure
creates 15 new permanent posts, including four for scientists and
three for technical assistants.
1974: Für die Betreuung der Dahlemer Zentralkartei, des
Samentausches und der Beschilderung wird erstmals eine
eigene Gärtnermeisterstelle geschaffen. In der Samenstube
gelingt die Aufzucht von Lysichiton camtschatcensis aus in
der Tiefkühltruhe aufbewahrten Samen.
1974: A new post is created for a qualified gardener uniquely responsible
for the maintenance of the ‘Dahlem central file’, seed exchange
and signage. In the seed room Lysichiton camtschatcensis
is successfully bred from seeds preserved in the chest freezer.

Roman and Arabic numerals.
1975: Johannes Gerloff betreut die Anschaffung und Aufstellung
des ersten Rasterelektronenmikroskops (REM) in
der „Englervilla“.
1975: Johannes Gerloff supervises the purchase and installation of
the first scanning electron microscope (SEM) in the ‘Englervilla’.
1976: Erstmals werden sehenswerte Pflanzen durch Rote
Punkte gekennzeichnet.
1976: For the first time particularly noteworthy plants are marked
with red dots.
